It's Official! Critics Rave "Rock of Ages" is a Bonafide Hit on Broadway!

Following an extremely successful off Broadway run and the sale of the film rights to New Line Cinema, ROCK OF AGES opened on Broadway last night, Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W. 47th Street). In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker and in LA's most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the '80s.
It's ROCK OF AGES, an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and many more. Don't miss this awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on.
The "totally awesome" cast for Broadway's new, smash hit musical stars Constantine Maroulis, ("American Idol" Season 4, Broadway's The Wedding Singer, RENT) reprising his critically acclaimed role as "Drew", is now joined by Broadway's best 1970's & 1980's period actors Amy Spanger (The Wedding Singer, Kiss Me Kate) as "Sherrie" and James Carpinello (Saturday Night Fever, VH1's "So NoTORIous") as "Stacee Jaxx".
Call an Applause Sales Expert today to take advantage of some big savings by mentioning the Applause Insider Deal at 800-451-9930. Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency for Rock of Ages and all Broadway shows!

I've put together all the reviews from last night's opening for your reading pleasure;

"Rock of Ages" Reviews:

[ NYT ] Slide Show: Big Hair and Denim Dreams
[ NYT ] Big-Hair Rockers Return in a New Arena: Broadway By CHARLES ISHERWOOD
"Rock of Ages" is a seriously silly, absurdly enjoyable arena-rock musical.
[ TM ] Rock of AgesReviewed by: Patrick Lee
This jukebox material using the hairband songs of the 1980s is deliriously entertaining.
[ DN ] 'Rock of Ages' delivers '80s sprinkled with cheese by Joe Dziemianowicz (*** 1/2)
[ AMNY ] Review of Rock of Ages by Matt Windman (3 out of 4 Stars)
[ TB ] Rock of Ages Review by Matthew Murray
Rock of Ages isn't trying to be theatre the way Mamma Mia! and Jersey Boys are. It's just trying to be a good time.
[ NY1 ] Review: "Rock Of Ages" By: Roma Torre
"Rock of Ages" is not for everyone, but I bet a lot of people who wouldn't expect to like this goofy musical will be smitten. Count me in that group.
[ V ] Rock of Ages Review By DAVID ROONEY
It's safe to say nostalgists won't feel cheated by "Rock of Ages," and that it won't be stealing audiences from "South Pacific." But by the time the ensemble unites on Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," even nonbelievers may start inhaling the Aqua Net and embracing their inner rocker.
[ R ] "Rock" gives '80s hair-band songs their day By Frank Scheck (Hollywood Reporter)
This cheesy exercise in rock nostalgia has already been a hit in Los Angeles and Off Broadway, and this transfer to the rialto should prove an equally critic-proof success.
[ NYP ] HIT PARADE'S NOT ROCK-SOLID By ELISABETH VINCENTELLI (** 1/2)
[ AP ] 'Rock of Ages' tours the music of the '80s By PETER SANTILLI
"Rock of Ages" should satisfy nostalgists with a penchant for '80s kitsch, but its lack of depth makes it unlikely to impress a wider audience.

Great Deals on Phylicia Rashad in "August: Osage County"

I have some mixed feelings about this move for one of my favorite plays currently on Broadway, August:Osage County. First off, race aside, Phylicia Rashad is the wrong actress to play Violet. This is a terrible move by the producers(I think). Phylicia Rashad is a wonderful actress, but her presence in this fairly realistic play will raise a boatload of questions the play doesn't need. Is the character of Violet now supposed to really be African-American? And if so, won't the idea of an interracial couple getting together in Oklahoma all those decades ago hover over the play like an unwanted ghost, raising questions the plays not equipped to handle? This casting decision makes no more sense than having Vanessa Redgrave take over Rashad's role in "Raisin in the Sun." An all-black cast of "August:Osage" would be one thing (and might be very interesting, come to think of it), but this casting decision just seems like a stunt. I hope "Osage" doesn't become the "Chicago" of straight plays, where every celebrity (and near-celebrity) with time on their hands wanders through just long enough to put a Broadway credit in their bio.
But I won't know until I see her myself starting May 26th.

The Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning hit about a dysfunctional family in crisis.
Meet the Westons. Dad’s disappeared. Mom’s popping pills. One daughter’s bound for divorce. And that's just the start. Equally harrowing and hysterical, Tracy Letts’ award-winning drama has already been hailed as an American classic!
So call an Applause Sales Expert now to get your tickets at a great price with the Applause Insider Deal. 800-451-9930 Applause is a NY State Licensed ticket agency for August:Osage County and all Broadway shows!

Get Great Deals Right Now to the Revival of "Guys and Dolls" with Applause Theatre Service!

Word of mouth is whats keeping "Guys and Dolls" running on Broadway. After the Broadway revival of “Guys and Dolls” opened to mixed to negative reviews, the producers held discussions about the show’s future and decided to keep it running, according to several theater industry sources familiar with the talks.

These sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to disclose private discussions, said the producers had confidence in the quality and popular appeal of the production, directed by Des McAnuff (”Jersey Boys”) and starring Oliver Platt as Nathan Detroit and Lauren Graham as Miss Adelaide.

Great news for all of us who love this show and hope it remains on Broadway for a long time!
The producers were also discussing how to market the show, given the dearth of positive blurbs from critics that usually run in advertisements. “Guys and Dolls” has been playing to near-capacity recently, filling 96.3 percent of its seats during performances last week.

Well if you act now, you can get some great deals on this show. Call and ask an Applause Sales Expert for the Insider deal! Applause is a New York State officially licensed ticket agency representing "Guys and Dolls" and all shows on Broadway. 800-451-9930

How to buy Mamma Mia! tickets on Broadway at Below Face Value

If you want to see one of the best Broadway Shows ever to play in New York City, now would be a great time to purchase a ticket or two. Mamma Mia! is a fantastic musical comedy playing on Broadway since 2001 and tells the unique story of a young lady about to be married called Sophie who desires to find out the true identity of her father. The only problem is that there are three potential dad's from here mom's past that seem to "fit the bill".

Mamma Mia! takes place on a small but beautiful Greek Island. The shows story is a simple but fun one indeed that is surrounded by 23 Abba songs. Surely you've heard of the 70's rock and roll band called Abba. Even if you, like me, weren't fans of the group, I must tell you that these Abba songs fit the story "perfectly" in my opinion.

The current stars of Mamma Mia! are Carolee Carmello, Brandi Burkhardt and Judy McLane as Donna and Sophie Sheridan and Tanya (one of Donna's close friends). The music and lyrics are by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus with a book written by Catherine Johnson.

Right now the friendly local Broadway ticket experts at Applause Theater Service in New York can get you into Mamma Mia! at "below face value". What this means is you would get to buy the tickets for less than the regular list box office price. Why is this? It's simple really, the show has been playing on Broadway for many years and is simply making a special offer to the public to see the show, at a nice discount. The discount is valid for all performances except Saturday evenings now through May 24, 2009. My guess is that they may extend the offer into the summer of 2009 as well but there are no official announcements thus far.

If you think you might want to buy tickets to Mamma Mia! in New York or some other terrific Broadway Theater, just give Applause a call toll free at 800-451-9930 or locally at 212-307-7050, seven days a week from 9am till 8pm on most days. Applause is not only a reliable source for up-to-date Broadway Show listings but is available if you just want to talk about your visit to New York. Maybe you need a restaurant suggestion or two. We love to eat out before the theater and can recommend several nice dining spots for you. No tourist traps here friends, just good places to have a nice meal and at reasonable prices.

Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency for Mamma Mia! and every Broadway Show playing in New York City. When your plans include a visit to Broadway, we would welcome the opportunity to be of service to you, your friends, relatives and people you work with that might have a need for our brand of personal service.

Buy tickets for Waiting for Godot on Broadway at Below Face Value

The Broadway revival of Waiting for Godot has started playing preview performances on April 3, 2009 with an official opening night of April 30, 2009. Waiting for Godot features Broadway's popular leading men Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin in a unique comedy written by Samuel Beckett with direction and scenic design by Anthony Page and Santo Loquasto.

Here's the plot of Waiting for Godot. Two men, Vladimir and Estragon are seen waiting on a stretch of deserted road apparently waiting for someone named Godot. While they wait, the men create a kind of a drama of their own doing. What we witness on stage is a very funny wordplay combining some poetry, dreamscapes and a bunch of other "nonsense", all interwoven and interpreted as a mellow conclusion of man kinds continuous search for meaning.

Right now, Applause Theater Service, a local friendly New York State officially licensed ticket agency representing Waiting for Godot and every Broadway Show as well on Broadway, can get you the best seats for Waiting for Godot at the Studio 54 Theater in New York City. In addition, Applause Theater Service can get you into this comedy at below the regular face value as well. Applause can provide these discounted tickets for a limited time only now through April 29, 2009.

If the show opens to great reviews like many in the industry expect, the access to discount tickets will probably be discontinued. If the reviews are not so great, my guess is that we will have access to discounted tickets for an extended period of time.

The folks at Applause Theater Service love to talk about Waiting for Godot and can advise you about all the other Broadway Shows playing in New York City as well. Have a look at our up-to-date Broadway Show list.

The Applause service is a personal one that can be reached locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. I almost forgot, if you need some great restaurant suggestions you can click here or ask the Applause staff for their favorites. They love theater and love to eat out too.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone is a revival of August Wilson’s second play from his series The Pittsburgh Cycle which chronicles different decades of life as experienced by African-Americans. This particular play is set in a boardinghouse in Pittsburgh in 1911. Joe Turner looks into the everyday lives and struggles of the house residents. Although the issues of the time of far more complicated…the play is really more of a “slice of life” depicting everyday life of African-Americans during this time. People searching to find themselves or their place in the world.
This is a beautiful show with a superb cast. Riveting performances from the entire cast with standouts from Roger Robinson, Chad Coleman, Marsha Stephanie Blake and Ernie Hudson. If you want to see a powerhouse team of actors in a fascinating play about human struggles then this should be your choice.

Next To Normal

In the many years that I have been going to the theatre I have enjoyed and been entertained by so many wonderful productions. However, every once in a while something comes along that feels just a little bit different and effects you , or I should say me on a different level. Just the other night I saw NEXT TO NORMAL and this was one of those experiences. It was captivating, moving and I have to say just reached inside and grabbed me. Not to give too much away, the show is a musical about a family dealing with the Mother's struggle with mental illness. Alice Ripley who has won me over so many times before, with such great performances in Side Show and The Rocky Horror Picture Show gives a heart wrenching performance as the Mother. The show has a small cast (5) and I must say everyone gives a strong and emotionally charged performance. This is one of the best experiences I have had in the theatre for quite some time. Don't miss this!

Get Tickets To Opening Week At Citi Field And Yankee Stadium At Applause

The Mets and Yankees both got their seasons underway on the road on Monday, the Mets riding the pitching of Johan Santana and their revamped bullpen to a 2-1 win over Cincinnati, while CC Sabathia and the Yankees struggled in Baltimore and lost 10-5. Both teams continue on the road this week before they return home next week and open their new stadiums. The Mets open Citi Field on Monday April 13 against San Diego, and the Yankees open the New Yankee Stadium on Thursday April 16 against Cleveland. Applause has tickets for all opening week games at the new stadiums, as well as all nationwide sporting events.

Applause is a New York State officially licensed ticket agency in business over 20 years, so give us a call and talk to one of our experts today for all your ticket needs.

Billy Elliot The Musical- Could it be 2009's Best Musical of The Year?

Right now just about every Broadway theater has a show playing. So much for many people saying Broadway was in trouble when the economy began moving downward.

Did you know that Billy Elliot is one of four shows that take in over $1 million dollars a week at the box office? Not too shabby right? Billy Elliot has been playing to thrilled audiences in New York City for over 6 months now, after premiering in London in 2005. Although I personally have seen more than a dozen or so new shows this season, I can safely say that Billy Elliot is one of the season's highlights.

Billy Elliot is a musical comedy and drama based on the emotional 2000 film of the same name. It tells the wonderfully warm tale of a young, poor "working-class" youngster who unlike most of his peers that simply do what their parents tell them to-decides to follow his passion for ballet dancing. Of course Billy's desire to become a professional dancer meets with "challenges". His family is feeling tremendous pressure from a coal miners strike in England and although his own family is against Billy's dreams, the friends and neighbors of the local town where they live play a big part in seeing if "Billy" can achieve his unique desires.

Billy Elliot The Musical has four actors all alternating in the role of Billy Elliot, played by David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, Kiril Kulish, and Tommy Batchelor. One of my favorite actors-Gregory Jbara, plays Billy's father and Haydn Gwynne plays Mrs. Wilkinson, his ballet teacher. Carole Shelley plays the young man's grandmother as well. A terrific supporting ensemble cast makes this show some of the very best theater I have ever witnessed in my life.

Billy Elliot has a fantastic book and lyrics by Lee Hall with music by Elton John. Direction is by Stephen Daldry with choreography by Peter Darling. This creative team is among the finest in the theater, film and music industry.

The show is 2 hours and 50 minutes with one intermission and performs every day except for Monday's. It plays at the Imperial Theater on 45th street, between Broadway and 8th Avenue in Broadway's theater district.

I would like to remind readers that Billy Elliot The Musical has received some of the best New York City theater reviews in many years. For example, The New York Times said Billy Elliot is "intoxicating" and is a "joyous, exciting and feel-good celebration of one boy following his heart and making his dreams come true". Time Out New York magazine called Billy Elliot "extraordinarily uplifting". I would whole-heatedly agree theater friends. This show is a must see. In fact, I saw it three times already, each time with a different young actor in the role of Billy Eliot. Pretty neat stuff right?

Most of my friends and people I work with know I usually say good things about most of the theater I take in but there is always a show or two that I can look back upon and remember that it had something "extra special" to offer. I like to feel things when I am in the theater, feel for the actor or the character that is being portrayed. Or even experience some emotion when listening to one of the great Elton John songs. Sitting in the audience at a Billy Elliot performance, I can pretty much guarantee that you, too will feel for the characters as well.

The Tony Award nominations for excellence in the theater will be announced in early May 2009 and I expect that Billy Elliot will lead the pack with a share of these much coveted potential awards. I've seen allot of theater this year and its always hard to pick a winner but for my money, Billy Elliot ranks high as any other musical this season to walk away with the 2009Best Musical Tony Award.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Billy Elliot. Meanwhile if you think you might want to see this show, you can call Applause Theater Service in New York City, a local Broadway ticket agency, licensed by the New York State Division of Licensing. Check Out Cirque Du Soleil's Kooza

Want to see something a little different? Check out Cirque Du Soleil's Kooza. Opening April 16th under the grand Chapiteau at Randall's Island Park. Kooza tells the story of a loner in search of his place in this world and the array of colorful comic characters he meets along the way. I happen to love Cirque Du Soleil. I have seen many of them during my travels and each one is as beautiful as the next. For those of you not familiar with Cirque Du Soleil it actually combines acrobatic performances and the art of clowning and shows the physical demands of human performance. These shows are always full of color, thrills, chills and surprises. So if you are thinking of something a little off the beaten path Kooza is the way to go! Don't delay call Applause today!

9 to 5 Begins Previews Tonight

One of this season's most highly anticipated shows is 9 to 5 The Musical. Now I'm sure most people like myself saw the classic 1982 movie that the show is based on. Expectations are high for the show but with a stellar cast of Broadway veterans and direction by Tony winner Joe Mantello(Wicked)and choreography by Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler(In The Heights)you can be rest assured that no matter what the critics say this show will be top notch. Besides it really doesn't matter what the critics say anyway. After all the critics didn't like Wicked and it's the biggest hit of the decade. So you never can tell.

Rock Of Ages Opens Tonight On Broadway

80's Rock fans rejoice. The critically acclaimed show Rock of Ages will make it's Broadway bow at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre tonight following a highly successful run last year Off-Broadway. Having seen the show Off-Broadway I was worried that taking a show that worked so well in a intimate space might be a bad idea. I'm happy to say that I was wrong. From the moment it started it was just like I remembered it. Great story, classic songs, and an amazing cast that gave 110% every time they were on stage. I loved it. I know you will too.

My Pet Peeves

After many, many years of going to the theatre, I have decided to compile a list of my pet peeves of what not to do while attending a Broadway show. So here goes....

The Latecomers-

It is 7:50 PM I am sitting in my seat for the 8PM showitme. About 8:20PM two people come walking down the aisle and stop right beside me and expect me to get up so they can get in.... I grumble and slide my legs to the side and let them climb over me. If myself and the rest of the Theatre can be there on time why can't they?

The Hungry One-

Sitting in my seat waiting for the show to start the overture starts and what do my ears hear? It is the crinkling of paper. I glare over my shoulder and see the person behind me has decided to open a candy bar and proceed to eat it... Hello...were you not sitting here for the last 20 minutes Why now???

The Wanna Be-

This is by far my favorite. The person that sits down next to me and thinks they can sing as good as the performers up on the stage..Hey, I paid to see the show not listen to you as you sing a song you think you know at the top of your lungs.

The Chatter Box-

Then you have the person that thinks it's okay to have a conversation with the person they are with during the course of the show. Hey if you do not want to pay attention to the show pick yourself up and leave. Let the others around you enjoy it.

It's A Family Affair-

Last but not least the parents that bring the kids to see a show and let them talk and kick the seat in front of them without even blinking an eye. Come on people have a little respect.

Whew! Thanks for letting me vent and remember next time you go to a Broadway show be on the lookout!!!!!!

You Too Can Defy Gravity by Seeing Wicked on Broadway

A few months ago I had the privilege of taking my husband and daughter to see Wicked. Well what can I say except We Loved It!!. With music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman Wicked tells the story of the witches from the Wizard of Oz (Elphaba the wicked witch and Glinda the good witch) how they met and what transpired to get them to the point of being enemies. Where Wicked ends the Wizard of Oz begins. I now understand why Wicked plays to sold out audiences nightly. The sets, costumes, lighting along with every thing else makes Wicked a must see for everyone when visiting New York. Don't delay call Applause today!!!!

Jersey Boys on Broadway is still one of Broadway's Best Shows of 2009

After winning the coveted Tony Award for the 2006 Best Musical, I am pleased to tell you that Jersey Boys is still one of the finest put together Broadway Shows I have ever seen in my lifetime. Songs like "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Oh What A Night", "Walk Like A Man" and many others will bring back memories of your childhood perhaps as well as tap into a new feeling of what life could have been like for four regular guys from New Jersey back in the 1960's. Although I was a teenager growing up to the sounds of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons music, I can tell you "firsthand" that my own son Adam (who is a drummer and musician himself) loves this music very much.

You see, a musician looks to find their niche or as Frankie Valli himself said in the Jersey Boys Show-they wanted to find ""our sound", that special sound that millions of music lovers for decades now have come to love.

Jersey Boys The Broadway musical is based on Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in which we get to witness the interwoven lives of four "blue collar"friends from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak who overcame the ordinary path they were on, worked hard and became one of America's most popular bands ever. They were famous for writing their own songs. In fact Bob Gaudio, the head song writer of the group is responsible for making sure the story transferred so well to Broadway. They sold over 175 million records before the age of thirty. Not too shabby right?

Jersey Boys is 2 hours and 30 minutes long and plays at the August Wilson Theater seven days a week. The cast playing right now include Jarrod Spector as Frankie Valli, Dominick Nolfi as Tommy DeVito (my favorite character in the show), Andrew Rannells as Bob Gaudio and Matt Bogart as Nick Massi. Matt has the most Broadway acting experience playing in Miss Saigon, Smokey Joe's Cafe and Aida. The supporting cast, many who play Broadway regularly are a talented group and make the show shine.

The shows original creators are Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, who wrote the Book with Music and Lyrics by Bob Gaudio (one of the original Four Seasons) and Bob Crewe (one of their original producers) that was able to get their music on the radio. Des McAnuff directs this show beautifully (he is currently directing) Guys and Dolls on Broadway as well. Choreography is by Sergio Trujillo, who I noticed did the same for a new show in previews called Next To Normal (which I think may win the 2009 Best Musical Tony Award).

Although Jersey Boys has been playing to sold out audiences for a few years now, it looks like tickets for good seating and reasonable prices are finally here theater friends. If you think you might want to see Jersey Boys, think about giving Applause Theater Service a call to discuss seeing one of Broadway's top selling shows ever. No kidding, I can think of thousands of people we had the pleasure of serving over the past few years. We sold tons of tickets for Jersey Boys, many of them at the "top of the theater". Why would we do this? The show was so hard to get that people were willing to sit anywhere, and they were happy to sit up top. Most people don't know it, but New York theaters are pretty small, no seats are really too far away from the stage. I never had a complaint, not one. In any case, Applause can get you a great price in the top mezzanine seats and for a few bucks more, seeing as how this show is getting older-we can secure better seats in the orchestra or front mezzanine, much closer to the action taking place on stage.

If you think you might want to see Jersey Boys, you can contact Applause's friendly ticket experts right here in the theater district at 212-307-705o or toll free at 800-451-9930 seven days a week, all year long.

There's never any pressure to buy at Applause. A look at our web site, maybe a click on our video and you'll soon see, we are interested in helping Broadway customers have an amazing day or night on Broadway. It's not about making a sale at all. We feel we will always have our share of business. We want to help make memories and are interested in lifelong relationships, not a quick sale.

So if you like great personal service, maybe a restaurant suggestion or too (we love to eat) and know where all the great eating establishments are- check out TODD'S DINING SUGGESTIONS) if you like, let us hear from you today.

I can hear you now walking out of the theater, possibly looking at your loved one and saying "Oh What A Night", just like The Four Seasons did.

Enjoy Jersey Boys as well as other Broadway Shows you may want to see. And remember, if you want someone to talk to about Broadway Shows- no pressure friends, call us today.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Buy Avenue Q tickets in New York City at Discount Prices

Avenue Q is a fantastic musical comedy which opened on Broadway on July 31, 2003. It was the winner of three 2004 Tony Awards for theater excellence including the Best Musical of the Year award. The show is often referred to as "the trials and tribulations of the people and puppets in the neighborhood". It is the story of a recent bright-eyed college graduate named Princeton who decides to move to New York City and live a life he has long dreamed of. Naturally, he has no money and the only place he can live in the big city is on Avenue Q. He finds out that life's not all he necessarily thought it would be but fortunately he finds out that he has a bunch of friendly and funny next door neighbors. Actors and their puppets play the roles of this very funny and heartfelt story. I really loved the show and if you don't mind some provocative language and suggestive matter, this show will entertain you from beginning to end. It is not recommended for youngsters but older teenagers and above please.

Avenue Q was written by Jeff Whitty based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx with Music and Lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and Direction by Jason Moore. Right now Howie Michael Smith plays the roles of Princeton and Rod, Christian Anderson plays Nicky, Trekkie Monster, Bear and some other characters and Carey Anderson plays the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy T. Slut. Additional cast members are Nicholas Kohn, Ann Sanders, Carla Renata and Jennifer Barnhart. They are a very talented group of actors who will shine on Broadway for many years to come for sure.

Avenue Q has been playing to crowds of excited theater-goers for a long time now. Right now, Applause Theater Service can get you into this show (if you think it's right up your Avenue Q alley so to speak)-at a big discount off the regular price of admission. Broadway tickets don't have to be expensive if you know how to shop for the best seats and prices. A simple call to the local Broadway ticket experts at Applause Theater Service can save you lots of money on Avenue Q for all performances through May 31, 2009 except for the Memorial Weekend blackout period of May 22-25, 2009.

Click on the Avenue Q page on our web site, check out what everyone says about the show then simply pick up the phone and call the friendly Applause ticket agency. At Applause there is never pressure to buy tickets, just good "old-fashioned" service and nice people to talk to. We hope to hear from you soon.

Oh just a few other items to note when searching for tickets. If you want to know about other Broadway Theater, we have updated our show listing today, just click here for Broadway's full list of shows.

And when you start thinking about dinner before the theater you may want to check out Todd's restaurant suggestions too. We love to eat and took the liberty of making a list of great places for you to dine.

Take care theater-lovers. We hope to hear from you soon when your plans include Broadway Theater.

Get Tickets to see Next To Normal on Broadway-Could this be the Best Musical of 2009?

Hello Broadway Theater fans,

This is Rich Gladstone, aka The Broadway Ticket Man writing to you a personal review of the next possible "Best Musical of the Year" Tony Award winner for 2009. That award could very possibly go to Next To Normal, a brand new musical drama playing at New York City's Booth Theater.

Next to Normal is in previews prior to an April 15, 2009 official opening on Broadway. The show is a modern day look at how mental illness can affect the average family. In particular, it deals with how the family, friends and medical help all cope with the various crisis that come up as they try to support a suburban mother's mental health problems. Although one might think this story line would work better in a non-musical format, wait till you get to witness the powerful and "rockin'" music from the band onstage as well as the sometimes "provocative" lyrics throughout this 2 hour and 40 minute Broadway production.

Next to Normal has a fantastic cast including J. Robert Spencer as Dan (best known for his role as Nick Massi in Jersey Boys) and Alice Ripley as Diana (best known for her Tony-nominated role in the Siamese twins cult musical Side Show as well as playing a key role in The Rocky Horror Show). Rounding out the cast is Jennifer Damiano playing the role of Natalie (Dan and Diana's daughter), Aaron Tveit playing the role of Gabe the son, Adam Chanler-Berat as Henry, Natalie's boyfriend and Louis Hobson who plays the role of Dr. Madden, Diana's psychiatrist.

Next to Normal is a truly inspiring look into how much a family can be affected by illness but more importantly, just how far two parents will go to keep their family together for the long term. The shows Book and Lyrics are written by Brian Yorkey with Music by Tom Kitt. Michael Greif directs this exciting new musical with wonderful scenic design by Mark Wendland. Costume design is created by Jeff Mahshie, lighting is by Kevin Adams, sound is by Brian Ronan and musical staging by Sergio Trujillo. Orchestrations are by Michael Starobin and Tom Kitt.

Right now I believe Next to Normal will be nominated for several Tony Awards and expect ticket sales will grow with word of mouth as well as the great critic reviews it is sure to receive. Billy Elliot is my other favorite to be in the running for this years Best Musical, winning several Tony Awards as well.

Right now I have a suggestion for you. If you think you might want to see Next to Normal in the next few weeks, a simple call to Applause Theater Service in New York City, a local Broadway ticket expert, we can get you great seats at discount prices. The producers of the show are only offering these special discount prices through April 23, 2009 performances. After it officially opens to critics reviews, my guess is the "discount" promotion will be discontinued. It's just the way things are with Broadway tickets. If a show starts selling out, discounts are taken back. One thing to remember though, if you are looking for discount prices and it doesn't necessarily matter which show you see, consult our discount ticket deals list. We usually have upwards of 15 shows we can get at very good rates.

As I close, let me leave you with a brief film clip of my thoughts about Next to Normal in a short video taken outside the Booth Theater last night. I hope you enjoy it.

Let me hear from you if you want to talk about getting tickets to Next to Normal, other great Broadway theater or even if you need . We know so many wonderful places to eat before the theater. You can call Applause Theater Service 7 days a week locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930.

We look forward to your call. Take care now and enjoy the Broadway theater.

Reasons To Be Pretty Opens Tonight On Broadway

This week I had the opportunity to see the new play reasons to be pretty. I had read up on the show prior to seeing it and thought it sounded interesting but knew it had the potential to either be a hit or miss with me. Well all I can say is it was definitely a hit. I would go as far to say that in my 17 years of living in this city it was one of the greatest evenings in the theatre that I have ever had. I would even go as far to say that in that time I have seen over 100 shows and would rank reasons to be pretty in my top five. It is that good. All I have to say is go see it. 'Nuff said.

Critics Rave about the New Musical Revival of "Hair"!!!!

To quote Britney Spears, Oops, I did it again! If you read my blog 2 weeks ago reviewing the new revival of "Hair", you know how I said that the critics are gonna go gaga over this show. I sure did and they were unanimously in agreement. This thing totally took me off guard! I loved it! I pretty much nailed the last 4 openings on Broadway, which tells me that I may be in the wrong profession(just kidding, I love working for Applause, how else would I be able to see all of these incredible shows). This show is going to stick around Broadway for a long time to come. You must hurry to get your tickets to see this glorious production.

Here is a complete list of all the critics reviews so that you can read for yourself how well received this show was;

[ A ] Hair Raiser By Brandon Voss
Hottie Gavin Creel may not take it all off in the Broadway revival of Hair, but he does put it all out there in his first interview with Advocate.com. Yep...he's gay.

[ ET ] 'Hair' Grows Again on Broadway
[ FOX ] FOX411 By Roger Friedman'Hair' Makes a Sizzling Broadway Statement
[ ND ] Linda Winer's Broadway review: 'Hair'
It's "Hair." It's here. Get used to it. "Hair," which opened indoors at Broadway prices last night after a smash last summer, free in Central Park, has settled its sweet, raucous and powerful self into the Hirschfeld Theatre for what deserves to be a very long time.

"Hair" was then and is now the most exciting new show in town, not so much a breath of spring air as a jolt of adrenaline.

This emotionally rich revival delivers what Broadway otherwise hasn't felt this season: the intense, unadulterated joy and anguish of that bi-polar state called youth.
[ YN ] Joyous revival of 'Hair' arrives on Broadway with exuberance intact By Michael Kuchwara, The Associated Press

[ V ] Hair Review by David Rooney
Director Diane Paulus and her prodigiously talented cast connect with the material in ways that cut right to the 1967 rock musicals heart.
[ BR ] Sixties spirit grows long and strong BY ROBERT FELDBERG
"Hair" might not have the power to shock or to liberate that it did 41 years ago, but the exuberant revival of the iconic rock musical gives Broadway a welcome jolt of energy. It's also lots of fun.
[ HC ] 'Hair' Lets The Sun Shine In By MALCOLM JOHNSON
The production of "The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical," which opened Tuesday night at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, still generates power despite its scattered book, first seen off-Broadway in 1967.
[ TB ] Hair Review by Matthew Murray
What Broadway desperately needs is a new Hair, not a new production of the old one: something that will identify today's youth, with its fears and its loves and its music, to the mainstream and encourage a more complex understanding of where they're taking the world. That would be a far richer tribute to this work's lasting legacy than this accomplished, enticing, and thoroughly meaningless revival.
[ BG ] Innocence, spontaneity lost in 'Hair' revival By Louise Kennedy
The bad puns almost write themselves. It's too long. It's dull. It's flat. It has lost its shine.Oh, I give up. I just watched "Hair" and I can't do a thing with it.
