"Cry Baby" is fun, fun, fluffy fun!
This show comes to us from the same producers of Hairspray hoping lightning will strike again! And I believe a storm is a brewing!! It certainly has the same high energy performances we saw in Hairspray. It's probably some of the best dancing currently on Broadway.
What a talented cast, led by a lot of newcomers and the always funny and delightful Harriet Harris (Tony Award winner as Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie) (Emmy nominated for Desperate Housewives) and Chester Gregory II (Hairspray, Tarzan) and was just cast as Donkey in the new Shrek muscial. I laughed along with the entire audience throughout this show. Run and catch it now while it's at a great insider deal price. Call an Applause Theatre Service Sales Expert now to book at 800-451-9930. You are sure to have a great time, I did!!
It's Unanimous! Nothing but Raves for "Gypsy" and its star Patti Lupone!
Gypsy is absolutely my favorite musical of all time and this production does not let you down by any means but I had my problems with the show and wouldn't say it's the best Gypsy that I've seen. Tyne Daly's performance was the best one that I was lucky enough to catch. But now with these amazing write ups, tickets are selling like crazy and don't miss this chance to see this classic musical. Because who knows after 3 revivals of this show in the last 15 years and no other Mermanesque female performer out there at the moment, we may not see it again for quite sometime.

Tony Award Winner Curtains Set To Close On June 29
The musical Curtains stars 2007 Tony Award winner and four-time Emmy Award winner David Hyde Pierce as Lieutenant Frank Cioffi and Tony and Emmy Award winner Debra Monk as producer Carmen Bernstein. According to the shows press release Curtains "unfolds backstage at Boston's Colonial Theatre in 1959, where a new musical could be a Broadway smash, were it not for the presence of its talent-free leading lady. When the hapless star dies on opening night during her curtain call, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi (David Hyde Pierce) arrives on the scene to conduct an investigation. But the lure of the theatre proves irresistible and after an unexpected romance blooms for the stage-struck detective, he finds himself just as drawn toward making the show a hit, as he is in solving the murder."
I myself loved this charming show within a show musical, not to mention that this is the last collaboration between the Tony Award songwriting team of John Kander and Fred Ebb. Get your Curtains tickets now. You've only got until June 29th.

Get Tickets To See South Pacific, sure to be a Tony Award Winning Musical in 2008
South Pacific is a musical based on two short stories found in a book called Tales of the South Pacific, written by the extremely talented novelist James A. Michener. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for "fiction" in 1948 and the original musical won the Pulitzer Prize for "drama" in 1950. The action takes place on a South Pacific Island during World War II.
In the original Broadway staging of South Pacific, the show explored the difficult issues of racial prejudice in a very candid fashion for that time. Many long time Broadway theater-goers have said that this show is often considered to be "one of the greatest musicals ever".
Even though I, myself was born in 1956, I knew most of the songs in last night's musical. Some of the classics that you might be familiar with are "A Wonderful Guy", "Bali Ha'i", "Nothing Like a Dame", "Some Enchanted Evening", "Younger Than Springtime" and what seemed like close to 30 songs in all. The original show was nominated for 9 Tony Awards and "won them all", something that I don't think was ever done again for excellence in the theatre.
This version of South Pacific at The Vivian Beaumont Theater in Lincoln Center holds up very nicely to the expectations I have often read about. The show stars Kelli O'Hara, most often remembered for her leading roles in A Light in the Piazza and The Pajama Game. Kelli portrays a Navy nurse, Ensign Nellie Forbush, a young girl from Little Rock, Arkansas now serving in the Navy, somewhere in the South Pacific.
Kelli's love interest is Emile de Becque, played by Paulo Szot. Mr. Szot is an internationally accomplished baritone having been seen in several New York City Opera productions including Le Nozze de Figaro, L'Elisir d'Amore and Carmen. Emile is a local plantation owner and he falls "head over heals" for Nellie.
Mary. Lt. Joe Cable, played very capably by Matthew Morrison, an American Navy officer falls for a local girl named Liat, the daughter of a local middle-aged Polynesian woman called BloodyBloody Mary "keeps the American G.I.s busy selling them grass skirts and other trinkets" that they can send back home to their girlfriends. The Americans are sorely missing home, not to mention a little "recreation", not having seen their loved ones for so long.
On stage we get to see dozens of locals from the island and many Navy personnel as well. I must make mention of the wonderful Scenic Design by Michael Yeargan ("it's worth the price of admission") just to see the fantastic way in which he re-creates his vision for what the surroundings were at the time. In addition, Catherine Zuber does a great job with Costume Design with special mentions for Lighting Design and Sound Design by Donald Holder and Scott Lehrer. Bartlett Sher is the director of this first time revival of South Pacific and he does a superb job at giving us "just the right feel" for what was taking place at the time over 50 years ago.
I've been in the Broadway industry my entire career, having seen several hundred Broadway productions. This beautiful production of South Pacific is coming to Broadway at "just the right time". Many new shows have opened over the past several months, mostly to mixed reviews. I often don't share the views of New York critics and my guess is that they'll have their own interpretation of what takes place on stage when the show opens to reviews on April 3, 2008. For my opinion, although I tend to enjoy most Broadway shows that I get the opportunity to see, I really feel that this revival of South Pacific very capably captures the story about 2 different personal relationships that deal with people of different racial backgrounds as well as the general feeling for what our military people go through emotionally, as well as how "local people" are affected by their presence on native island.
When you are ready to get tickets for an amazing Broadway show, treat yourself to tickets for South Pacific. I'm so glad I got a chance to see Kelli O'Hara and Paulo Szot in this show and am certain you'll be glad you got the chance as well.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker At Applause Theatre Service
So what is your favorite show? Rent has been my favorite ever since it opened twelve years ago. However after seeing In The Heights for the second time last week, I think Rent might have some competition. Now don't get me wrong. I love Rent. And nothing will ever change that. But it's nice to see something new and original again on Broadway instead of cartoon and movies turned into musicals. Yes I know they have a place just like revivals do. But that's the good thing about Broadway. There is something for everybody. So see a Broadway show. It is an experience you will never forget.

Get tickets now with Applause Theatre Service for the Incredible production of "South Pacific"
Lincoln Center Theater presents the first Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific", which is currently in previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
I get a lot of ribbing from my coworkers who make fun of me because I told them of the time I first saw South Pacific with my cousin Johnny at his High School Production and was just blown away by the show, its music and his performance. He played the lead Emile (his performance helped in my interest and pursuit of being an actor!). The show and almost every song gave me the goosebumps and I teared up many times throughout the play (that is why they make fun of me!).
The music moves me even more now and the tears are still there! What classic numbers, each and every one of them. From Some Enchanted Evening, Younger Than Springtime, Bloody Mary, Bali Hai, This Nearly Was Mine, I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair and on and on. South Pacific is one of the most stunning sets and Broadway productions that I (and my manager Todd who attended with me), have ever seen. A postcard of the South Pacific! Every performer was wonderful with two standouts for me, Paulo Szot (as Emile de Becque) and Loretta Ables Sayre as Bloody Mary (Both Tony nominees in my book). She's a bit creepy but played wonderfully! He is sheer perfection, What a Voice!! Gypsy, has always been my favorite show but now after finally seeing this production of South Pacific, I think I may have to change my choice of shows. Don't get me wrong, this Gypsy with Patti LuPone is great and not to be missed, but if I had to choose Best Revival of a Musical at this years Tony Awards, South Pacific would win hands down.
This is sure to be a huge hit and tickets will be scarce because the critics are going to eat this production up. So order South Pacific tickets now by calling an Applause Expert, 800-451-9930 and get your seats to what is sure to be this seasons most difficult ticket. The theatre is great because it is not a very large house and the seats surround the stage so there is not a bad seat, grab anything you can to see Some Enchanted Evening!!
Bartlett Sher directs and Christopher Gattelli choreographs the new production starring Kelli O'Hara (as Nellie Forbush) and Paulo Szot (as Emile de Becque). Matthew Morrison, Danny Burstein, Li Jun Li and Loretta Ables Sayre also appear in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan.
"Set on a tropical island during World War II," according to LCT, "the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples — US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush & French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable & a young local native girl Liat — and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices."
Above is a glimpse at the production!

John Lithgow Returns To NYC Stage This Spring
According to press notes Stories By Heart,"is a touching and funny meditation on the art and essence of storytelling. Invoking memories of his grandmother and father before him, Lithgow traces his own history as an actor and storyteller, a history spanning three generations, culminating in a tour-de-force performance of the P.G. Wodehouse story 'Uncle Fred Flits By,' in which the actor performs a bravura, forty-minute comic monologue, spouting Wodehouse's dazzling language – portraying nine distinct, outrageous characters with zany abandon."

Get Amazing Seats Now for the New production of GYPSY on Broadway
Gypsy tells the story of an over-bearing "stage mother" and her relentless, and almost abusive way in which she pushes her 2 daughters in the vaudeville business. Their "act" is bad to say the least. When she "pushes away" her younger daughter "June",after years and years of trying to make her a "star", Mama Rose then makes it her mission to do the same with her younger daughter Louise.
Somewhere down the road, after years of chasing success and getting nowhere with their act, Herbie (Mama Rose's prospective 4th husband and the girls manager, mistakenly books the act into an old run-down burlesque house. Down to their last dollar, Louise is pushed into becoming "top of the bill" one night and we get to see in person the act that would become known as "Gypsy Rose Lee".
Although I have been fortunate enough to have seen 23 Broadway musicals and plays over the past year, I can honestly say that this new, very lively and entertaining production "aims to please" from beginning to end. This GYPSY has an amazing cast that includes Boyd Gaines, who plays Herbie. Mr. Gaines has won 3 Tony Awards for Contact, The Heidi Chronicles and She Loves Me. He is an outstanding actor and adds just the right amount of seriousness to this production.
In addition, we get to see another great performance by Laura Benanti, who plays Louise. Ms. Benanti adds a wonderful blend of comedy, singing and acting to her role as Mama Rose's "no talent" younger daughter. She has been nominated for 2 Tony Awards and has most recently been on Broadway appearing in The Wedding Singer.
Mamma Rose is played by one of Broadway's most favorite leading "divas", Patti LuPone. Ms. LuPone has been well known for her starring stage roles in Sunset Boulevard, Les Miserables , Evita, Oliver, Anything Goes, Master Class, Sweeney Todd, Company and several others. She won Tony Awards in Evita and Anything Goes. Her acting is superb and she is well known for her Ethel Merman like "belting out the high notes" quality in her songs. It was a real treat to see her last night.
My co-workers know that I usually like most of the theatre that I go to see. They are right for sure but it is not every day that one gets an opportunity to see a "solid" revival of a classic musical, especially with great acting and fantastic vocal talent as well.
Do yourself a favor. Get yourself a ticket to see GYPSY as soon as possible. Right now the friendly team at Applause Theatre Service in New York City has access to some "insider prices" for this production of Gypsy. The show officially opens to critic's reviews on March 27, 2008 and my guess is that it could very well become one of Broadway's hottest tickets. I really hope it does, the cast deserves the acknowledgement for a job very well done.
Bravo! to Gypsy on Broadway, still holding up to the test of time in 2008.

Lopez will play the shows mostly-unseen god-like director (heard on mic for most of the show) through Sept. 7 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Zach is "the demanding director who is casting the chorus roles for a new Broadway musical," according to producers.
(Die hard Lopez fans take note: Lopez will be on hiatus from A Chorus Line May 11-June 3.)
"Mario is an enormously talented actor and dancer and we are thrilled to have him make his Broadway debut in A Chorus Line," stated producer Breglio. "His talents and charm will transfer beautifully to the Broadway stage."
"Every actor dreams about appearing on a Broadway stage," Lopez stated. "I have as well, and have been searching for the right time and opportunity. A Chorus Line is a legendary musical and I am so honored to have been chosen to join the amazing cast and be a part of the Broadway family."

It is now rumored that The 39 Steps may move to another Broadway house by popular demand. It is currently playing to sold out houses each night and is only leaving because there is another show scheduled for the American Airlines Theatre.
Also on the good news front, the critically acclaimed play "August: Osage County" http://www.applause-tickets.com/august-osage-county.asp scheduled as a strictly limited run will not be so limited soon. It is moving from its current house at the Imperial theatre, April 22, right next door to the more intimate Music Box Theatre starting on April 29.
