Exciting news theatre fans. One of the theatre's most celebrated play's is heading back to Broadway for the first time since it's acclaimed 1988 production. The show, which will star Academy Award nominee Clive Owen, is set to open on October 26 at a Broadway theatre to be announced.
Directing the David Henry Hwang play is Tony winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King). Now I never saw the show, as I was not living in New York at the time. I did however read the play and found it to be one of the most compelling and powerful plays that I have ever encountered.
It was also reported, that Mr. Hwang will be updating the show complete with new material, which tells the story of the real life love affair between French diplomat Bernard Boursicot and Chinese opera singer Shi Pei Pu. Here's hoping it's a hit. Stay tuned to this blog site for more info in the coming months. Until next time theatre fans.
