That's right theatre fans. One of last season's most celebrated plays in London is heading to the Great White Way. George Orwell's 1984, which opened to critical acclaim last Summer, is scheduled to open on Broadway at the new refurbished Hudson Theatre on June 22. The book, which was first published in 1949, is one of the most celebrated and best known novels of all time. So what is it all about? Well I'll tell you.
Winston Smith is a low ranking member of London's ruling Party, which prohibits not only free thought and sex, but basically any expression of individuality. This of course does not sit well with the leader of the Party, AKA Big Brother, who orders that Winton be followed day and night via a specially designed telescreen.
Understandably this also does not sit well with Winton, who proceeds to write his thought's in an illegal diary. One day he receives a note from a dark haired girl that simply says, "I love you." They soon begin a secret affair all the while trying to avoid the watchful eye of the Party.
Soon there after he is summoned to meet with O'Brien, who is rumored to be a high ranking member of the Party. O'Brien encourages him to confront his greatest fear. He soon discovers that the thing he fears the most is not what he thought at all.
Well I'm intrigued. How about you? Tickets for the show are scheduled to go on sale in the coming months. Not only that, but we will be selling it. Get your tickets to see George Orwell's 1984 on Broadway at the Hudson Theatre. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.
