Oh come on now. You knew it was going to happen eventually. Although to be honest, I always assumed it would have happened years ago. Diana, which had it's world premier at the La Jolla Playhouse this past April, is set to begin performances at the Longacre Theatre on March 2, 2020, with opening night scheduled for March 31.
The show, which takes place during her marriage to Prince Charles, as well as their eventual separation, is being directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley (Come From Away), and features a score and book by fellow Tony Award winners David Bryan and Joe DiPietro.
Now in case you have forgotten, those three gentleman scored a big hit ten years ago with Memphis, which went on to win four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical of the Year. Here's hoping lighting strikes twice.Leading the cast as Princess Diana and Prince Charles are Jeanna de Waal and Roe Hartrampf. They will be joined by Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles, and Tony Award winner Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth. An on sale date for the tickets has yet to be announced.
