Stagehands Strike:One Year Later

Hard to believe it's been year since the Stagehand Strike of 2007. At the time we wondered when and if it would be over. Not to mention what effect it would have on the industry and Broadway as a whole. Well after 19 days of tense negotiations an agreement was reached and all of Broadway was back in business. Not since the musicians strike of 1975 had Broadway been in such jeopardy.

As we look towards the future Broadway continues to thrive. Sixteen new shows are set to open by May, and several long-running shows continue to do boffo business. Now it's no secret that the economy is at a low point. But thankfully that has not effected Broadway as much as people think. Yes some long running shows such as Hairspray, Spring Awakening, and Spamalot are closing. But when you consider that all three have had very long profitable runs then that is something to be excited about. Broadway isn't going anywhere. Now that is something to be truly happy about.
