That's right theatre fans. It's finally here. The Great Comet is headed to the Great White Way. Now technically the full name of the show is Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. But I digress. The show, which begins previews tonight at the Imperial Theatre, is scheduled to open on November 14. So what exactly is the show about?
Besides that it stars Josh Groban of course. Set in eighteenth century Russia, prior to Napoleon's invasion, this new musical tells the story of wealthy aristocrat Pierre, who meets the newly engaged but naïve Natasha, and her supportive but scheming cousin Sasha.
While Natasha's fiancée and Pierre's best friend Andrey is off fighting for his country, Pierre looks after the two cousin's as the war continues. As the war rages on, engagements and hearts are broken as new romances begin to blossom.
Now while I didn't see the show during it's previous Off-Broadway engagement in 2013, I have heard nothing but great things about it. Here's hoping the show takes Broadway by storm. Tickets for the show are selling very well. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. You may just have to spend a little more to get seats. Thankfully it is such a small theatre that there is not a bad seat in a house.
Oh and just in case you didn't know, they have added on stage seating, where you the audience seat at tables, as the action takes place around you. Now that sounds like a lot of fun to me. How about you? Get your tickets to see Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.
