Has it really been thirty years since The Phantom of the Opera took the world by storm? Time sure does fly. The show, which premiered in London on October 9, 1986, at Her Majesty's Theatre, continues to play to packed houses eight times a week. Growing up in the Midwest, I wasn't exposed to a lot of theatre except for the shows I performed in, or ones I saw at my local community theatre.Then a little show called The Phantom of the Opera entered my life. To this day it is still one of my favorite shows. I mean how can you not love the show? It's got everything. Romance, a thrilling story, plus one of the most beautiful scores ever written for the theatre. Oh and did I mention that since the show opened, it has grossed over five billion dollars, and has been seen by over a hundred and thirty million people, in a hundred forty-five cities across twenty-seven countries. I guess I'm not the only one who loves the show now am I? I didn't think so. Here's to another thirty years! Until next time theatre fans.
