That's right theatre fans. The Great Comet is ready to take the Great White Way by storm. The show which began previews at the Imperial Theatre on October 18, will officially open tonight on Broadway. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, is actually based on Volume 2, Part 5 of War and Peace.
Set in eighteenth century Russia, prior to Napoleon's invasion, this new musical tells the story of wealthy aristocrat Pierre, who meets the newly engaged but naïve Natasha, and her supportive but scheming cousin Sasha. While Natasha's fiancée and Pierre's best friend Andrey are off fighting for his country, Pierre looks after the two cousin's as the war continues.
As the war rages on, engagements and hearts are broken as new romances begin to blossom. Sounds like my kind of show. Oh and did I mention that the show stars multi-platinum singer-songwriter Josh Groban as Pierre. That is worth the ticket price alone don't you think? Tickets for the show are flying out the door like crazy. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. You just me need to spend a little more, or be a little more flexible on when you see it. Thankfully the show is going to be around for a long while my friends.
Oh and one more thing. They have added on stage seating, where the audience sits at tables, as the action takes place around you. Now that sounds like a lot of fun to me. How about you? Get your tickets to see Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.
