Now believe it or not, but The Waverly Gallery is the second show by playwright Kenneth Lonergan to open on Broadway this year, following last season's Tony Award nominated production of Lobby Hero.Directed by Drama Desk and Obie Award winner Lila Neugebauer (The Wolves, Mary Page Marlowe), and starring Academy Award nominee's Elaine May (Heaven Can Wait) and Lucas Hedges (Manchester By The Sea), Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee Joan Allen and Tony Award nominee Michael Cera (Arrested Development), The Waverly Gallery is set to begin previews at the John Golden Theatre on September 25, with opening night scheduled for October 25.
The show, which played a two month engagement at the Promenade Theatre in Spring 2000, was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001.
