That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated shows has found it's home. Not only that, but the show has found it's cast too. West Side Story, which believe it or not first premiered on Broadway in 1957, is set to begin previews at the Broadway Theatre on December 10, 2019, with opening night scheduled for February 6, 2020.Eight weeks of previews for a show that opened over six decades ago? Seems like a long time to me. Oh well. I'm sure they know what they are doing.Now not only will be the first time in the United States to not feature the original Jerome Robbins Tony Award winning choreography, but twenty- three actor's in the show are making their Broadway debut. I think that might be a record.
Portraying the star-crossed lover's Tony and Maria are Isaac Powell and Shereen Pimentel, with Yesenia Ayala as Anita and Amar Ramasar as Bernardo, and Ben Cook as Riff. With a score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, a book by Arthur Laurents and directed by Tony Award winner Ivo van Hove, and choreographed by acclaimed international choreographer Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker, West Side Story is one show that you do not want to miss.
