Tickets For New Musical Amélie Are Now Available

Amelie_Key_Art_HRA couple of weeks ago, I posted a blog about the new musical Amélie coming to Broadway. In the blog I mentioned that we would be selling tickets for the show as soon as it went on sale. Well theatre fans that day has finally arrived.

The show, which is set to begin previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre on March 9, 2017, and open on April 3, is based on the 2001 French film. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the Walter Kerr Theatre, it is one of Broadway's smallest houses.

Therefore I think it will be perfect for such an intimate show like Amélie. That also means that there is not a bad seat in the house. How many theatres can say that? Get your tickets to see Amélie on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre. I can't wait to see it. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway's The Phantom Of The Opera Celebrates Milestone

Wait a minute. The Phantom of the Opera is still playing on Broadway? It sure is theatre fans. In fact in January, the show will celebrate it's twenty-ninth year on the Great White Way. Not only that, but tonight the show will play it's 12,000 performance on Broadway. Pretty impressive don't you think?

When I first moved here, the show was in it's fifth year. Now while I loved the show, I never expected to still be writing about it all these years later. Yet here we are twenty-five years later, and the show is still playing to packed houses eight times a week. Congrats to you Phantom. You deserve it. Until next time theatre fans.

War Paint, which stars two-time Tony winners Christine Ebersole and Patti Lupone, will begin previews at the Nederlander Theatre on March 7, 2017, with opening night scheduled for April 6. The show which premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, broke box office records when it played there this past Summer.

So what exactly is the show all about? Well for starters the new musical is based on the documentary The Powder and Glory, by Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman. Wait a minute. A new musical based on a movie? What will they think of next? Just kidding. I am actually looking forward to seeing it. In fact I recently wrote a blog about the show. Check it out if you get a chance.

Avenue Q Is Still A Must See

Avenue QThis past Sunday I had the pleasure of seeing Avenue Q. Now mind you it is not the first time that I have seen this amazing show. It was actually my sixth. Although truth be told the last time I saw the show was over twelve years ago. Which incidentally was the night after the show won the Tony Award for Best Musical. What's that? You forgot that Avenue Q beat Wicked for Broadway's biggest prize?

I know. I know. Some of you are still in denial. It's o.k. Luckily both are still playing. Now going into the show I wasn't sure what to expect. Would the show still be as good as it was when I saw it all those years ago? Well I can answer that in one word. No. It was better. Maybe it has something to do with the recent election, or the state of our country right now. Or maybe it has to do with me being at a crossroads in my life right now.

To be honest I have been struggling the last few weeks about the direction my life has been going in. Do I stay in the place I have called home for over two decades? Or do I leave the place that I love to pursue something else? Seeing Avenue Q on Sunday night showed me that everything is not always black and white. Yes it is easy to get defeated and a little scared about what is going on in our world right now. It's only normal. Sometimes you need to see a show like Avenue Q to show you that it's o.k. to laugh, and to help you forget your problems. At least for a little while that is. After all isn't that what theatre is supposed to do? I think Sunday night was exactly what I needed. Who knows? Maybe seeing Avenue Q will do the same for you. Happy Holidays everyone, and be safe out there.

Vice-President Elect Visit's Broadway's Hamilton

That's right theatre fans. Broadway's hottest show is once again in the news. Although this time it's not about how many awards it's won, or about it's creator and former star Lin-Manuel Miranda. This time it's because of a very famous audience member. No, I'm not talking about the first family. They've already seen the show. Twice in fact. Although this gentleman does have a connection to the White House.

Of course I am talking about our future Vice-President Mike Pence. The current Governor of Indiana, attended Friday night's performance accompanied by his daughter and a few of her cousins. Now according to a statement from the Governor, he loved the show. They all did. However as he entered he was booed, as well as cheered as he and his party took their seats. This of course did not go unnoticed by the President-Elect, who expressed his thoughts via Twitter.

 @realDonaldTrump
"The cast and producers of Hamilton, which I hear is highly overrated, should immediately apologize to Mike Pence for their terrible behavior."

Just another day at the theater I guess. Bring on 2017.

Classic 5 Temptations circa 1965.jpgA Temptations musical? Am I dreaming? I sure hope not theatre fans. It was just announced today that a new musical about the boys from Motown, is heading to the stage. The show, which is being directed by Des McAnuff and choreographed by Segio Trujillo, is set to open at the Berkley Repertory Company. Those two men of course are the same guys that brought you Jersey Boys, the 2006 Tony Award winner for Best Musical of the Year. Here's hoping lighting strikes twice. New Musical Amélie Announces Broadway Dates

Amelie_Key_Art_HRThat's right theatre fans. Amélie is heading to the Great White Way. The show, which is based on the 2001 French film, will begin previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre on March 9, 2017, with opening night scheduled for April 3. Starring in the title role is recent Tony nominee Phillipa Soo (Hamilton).

Prior to it's Broadway premier, the show is scheduled to play at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles from December 4-January 15. So what is the show all about? Well according to the show's creative team, Amélie "follows the whimsical and charming existence of Amélie, a lonely French waitress who decides to act as a secret wish-fulfiller to the people who live around her."

Now while I never got the chance to see Ms. Soo when she was in Hamilton, I did see here a few years ago when she was in Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. She was fantastic. I smell another Tony nomination in her future. Tickets for the show are not on sale yet. However you can bet that when they do, we will be selling them. However before your purchase tickets, you might want a little more info about the play. So here you go. Enjoy!

Broadway Production Of Chicago Turns Twenty

ChicagoTwenty years? Where has the time gone theatre fans? It seems like only yesterday that I was sitting in the front row of the Shubert Theatre getting ready to see Chicago for the first time. Now here we are all these years later and the show is still going strong. Not only that, but Chicago is also the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.

Not bad for a show that ran a little over two years during it's original production in the 1970's. Now back then a two year run was considered a pretty big accomplishment. But twenty years? That is unheard of my friends. The only show that has run longer of course is The Phantom of the Opera, which will celebrate it's twenty-ninth year on Broadway in January. But enough about that show. We're here to celebrate Chicago's anniversary after all.

And what better way to celebrate the show then by going to see it. Not only that, but you can now get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru April 2, 2017, it is for select seats, and as always subject to availability. Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet Of 1812 To Open Tonight On Broadway

Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812That's right theatre fans. The Great Comet is ready to take the Great White Way by storm. The show which began previews at the Imperial Theatre on October 18, will officially open tonight on Broadway. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, is actually based on Volume 2, Part 5 of War and Peace.

Set in eighteenth century Russia, prior to Napoleon's invasion, this new musical tells the story of wealthy aristocrat Pierre, who meets the newly engaged but naïve Natasha, and her supportive but scheming cousin Sasha. While Natasha's fiancée and Pierre's best friend Andrey are off fighting for his country, Pierre looks after the two cousin's as the war continues.

As the war rages on, engagements and hearts are broken as new romances begin to blossom. Sounds like my kind of show. Oh and did I mention that the show stars multi-platinum singer-songwriter Josh Groban as Pierre. That is worth the ticket price alone don't you think? Tickets for the show are flying out the door like crazy. Now that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. You just me need to spend a little more, or be a little more flexible on when you see it. Thankfully the show is going to be around for a long while my friends.

Oh and one more thing. They have added on stage seating, where the audience sits at tables, as the action takes place around you. Now that sounds like a lot of fun to me. How about you? Get your tickets to see Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. In TransitThat's right theatre fans. Another brand new musical is set to open on the Great White Way. In Transit, which premiered Off-Broadway in 2010 at Primary Stages, will begin previews tonight at the Circle In The Square Theatre, with opening night scheduled for December 11.

The show, which features book, music, and lyrics by Academy Award winner Kristin Anderson-Lopez (Frozen), James Allen-Ford, Russ Kaplan, and Sara Wordsworth, is being directed by three-time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall. So what exactly is the show about?

Well for starters it takes place in New York City. Oh and of course it takes place on the subway. Which is why it is called In Transit. Tickets for the show are now available. Not only that but if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat.

New Play The Present To Open On Broadway This Fall

The PresentCate Blanchett on Broadway? Count me in. Oh and did I mention the show is a new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's first play? Well it is theatre fans. FYI, that makes the second Chekhov adaptation of the season, with The Cherry Orchard starring Diane Lane playing on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre. The Present, which is being adapted by Andrew Upton is set to begin previews at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on December 17, with opening night scheduled for January 8.

So what exactly is The Present all about? Well according to the show's official site, The Present takes place at an old country house in the mid 1990'as where a group of friends gather to celebrate the birthday of the very self-efficient but somewhat timid widow Anna Petrovna. As the celebration continues, tales of betrayal as well as unresolved feeling's are exposed, making the evening one that they will soon never forget.

Now that sounds like my kind of show. By the way for those of you who want tickets to see the show you are luck. We sell it. Plus from now you can get tickets to see the show at rates that can't be beat. August Wilson's Jitney To Make Broadway Premier This December

JitneyI know what you're thinking. A new August Wilson play on Broadway? How do I get tickets? Now technically Jitney is not a new show. In fact it was actually written in 1979, and given it's first production in 1982 at the Allegheny Repertory Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

However this is the first time it has been on Broadway. It did play a limited engagement Off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theatre in 2000. Now here we are sixteen years later and the show is set to make it's Broadway debut. The show which is being directed by Tony winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson, is set to begin previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on December 28, 2016, with opening night scheduled for January 19, 2017.

So what exactly is the show about? Well according to the show's website, Jitney takes place in a run down gypsy cab station in Pittsburgh in 1977. Unfortunately all of the company's employees are driving unlicensed cabs, aka Jitney's, which causes the city to threaten to close down the business for good. Adding to the drama is the return of the owners son, who's recent release from prison causes even more conflict as the future of the company remains unclear. Now I have been a big fan of August Wilson for as long as I can remember. Therefore I can't wait to see this one. Tickets for the show are now on sale. Not only that but we are selling them. Get your tickets to see Jitney on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

New Musical Bandstand To Open On Broadway Next Spring

Bandstand_Musical_Broadway_ArtThat's right theatre fans. Another new musical is heading to the Great White way this season. By the way, that makes a total of eleven shows that have will be premiering on Broadway during the 2016-17 season. Now today's blog is to tell you about a new show that is coming to Broadway in the coming months.

It's title? Bandstand. I know what you're thinking. Who's are the going to get to play Dick Clark in this brand new show? Not so fast my friends. The show, which stars two-time Tony nominee Laura Osnes (Bonnie and Clyde, Cinderella) and Corey Cott (Newsies, Gigi), and is being directed by Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, In The Heights), is set to begin previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on March 31, 2017, with opening night scheduled for April 26.

Set in the "Big Band" era during World War II, Bandstand tells the story of struggling singer-songwriter Donny Novitski and his fellow army buddies. When a national radio station sponsors a contest to find the next big sensation, Donny and his buddies team up with singer and war widow hoping that a win will change all of their lives. Now that sounds pretty interesting don't you think? Tickets for the show are not yet on sale. However you can guarantee that when they do, we will be selling them. Get your tickets to see Bandstand on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Tickets For The Broadway Revival Of Miss Saigon Are Now On Sale

Miss Saigon TicketsI can't begin to tell you how excited I am to see this show. As I have mentioned in several of my previous blogs, I grew up in a small farm town in Illinois. Therefore I didn't have a lot of exposure to Broadway, except for the shows I performed in at my local community theatre, as well as my high school productions. Although I did travel to Chicago during my junior year to see The Phantom of the Opera. Shortly after seeing that production, my friend turned me on to a new show called Miss Saigon, which was taking London by storm.

Truth be told I was not expecting too much, as I was, and have never been a big fan of Les Miserables, which as you know was also written by the same composers as Miss Saigon. To say I was blown away would be an understatement. In fact I practically listened to the cast recording almost every day for the next few weeks. Scratch that. Months. I guess I was a little obsessed with it. Cut to over two years later and I finally got the chance to see it on Broadway.

Was I still blown away? You better believe it. In fact over the next few years, I saw the show over a half a dozen times. I even got the chance to see it again when Lea Salonga reprised her Tony Award winning performance as Kim. Now here we are over twenty-five years since it's Broadway debut, and the show is returning again in a brand new production. Not too mention, it's playing at it's original home, the Broadway Theatre. It just get's better and better. Tickets for the show are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling them. Get your tickets to see Miss Saigon on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

A Bronx Tale To Begin Previews Tonight On Broadway

A Bronx TaleI can't tell you how excited I am to see this show. Now believe it or not but I have never seen the movie. This coming from a huge Robert De Niro fan. However, I did get a chance to see the Broadway production of A Bronx Tale, starring it's writer and creator Chaz Palminteri when it played at the Walter Kerr Theatre in the Fall of 2007.

That production ran from October 4 thru February 24, 2008 where it recouped it's entire investment. That production was directed by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks, who is co-directing this new production with Mr. De Niro. Oh and did I mention that this new production is a musical? Well it is.

In fact it is being written by the play's author, with a score by Tony and Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Music) and Glenn Slater (Lyrics). Pretty impressive team don't you think? The new musical, which begins previews tonight at the Longacre Theatre, will officially open on December 1. Oh and one more thing.

It is now possible to get tickets to see A Bronx Tale for prices that can't be beat. Who doesn't love a bargain right? Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru April 2, 2017, it is for select seats, and must be purchased by December 3. Get your tickets to see A Bronx Tale on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

Sunset Boulevard To Play Broadway This Spring

SunsetBoulevardLogo.JPGThat's right theatre fans. Sunset Boulevard is heading back to Broadway. Now believe it or not, but I never saw the original production. Don't get me wrong. I like Andrew Lloyd Webber. I even like Glenn Close. I guess the show just never interested me all that much. Now if you recall, the 1994-95 Broadway season wasn't all that spectacular. In fact there were only two new shows that opened that season. Sunset Boulevard, and Smokey Joe's Café, which believe it or not actually ran longer than Sunset Boulevard.

Now here we are twenty years later, and Norman Desmond and her gold turban are back in a brand new production. Oh and did I mention that Glenn Close is reprising her Tony Award winning performance? Well she is theatre fans. Previews for the show are set to begin at the Palace Theatre on February 2, with opening night scheduled for February 9.

Now I don't know about you, but that has got to be one of the shortest preview periods in history. Here's hoping it goes off without a hitch. As of now the show is scheduled to play a limited engagement of sixteen weeks. Although I would not be at all surprised if it extends. Who knows? I might just get around to seeing it this time. Stranger things have happened. Also be advised that the show is only doing seven shows a week. I guess Miss Desmond needs her beauty sleep. Get your tickets to see Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway at the Palace Theatre. Expect the show to be one of the biggest hit's of the Broadway season. Until next time theatre fans.

The Book Of Mormon On Broadway

The Book of MormonStill haven't seen one of Broadway's most popular show's? Well what are you waiting for people? There is no better time to than right now. The Book of Mormon, which won nine 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Musical of the Year, is one of the funniest shows you will ever see. Now when the show was first announced I wasn't sure how the show would do. Yes I know that South Park has a very large following. I also know that Avenue Q won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year.

Not too mention that Avenue Q is one of my favorite shows of all time. Oh I guess I forgot to mention that the writer's behind both of those shows also wrote The Book of Mormon. But you probably knew that now didn't you? Now as I mentioned I loved Avenue Q. In fact I saw it over a half a dozen times. Therefore I was sure I was going to love The Book of Mormon. Unfortunately tickets were not available when it first opened. In fact it wasn't until almost three years later until I finally saw it.

Was it worth the wait? You better believe it. Not only that but I saw it again just a few months ago, and it was just as great. How many long running shows can you say about that? Not too many my friends. Now the reason for today's blog was to tell you how you can get tickets to see this amazing show. Now I guess you could wait until you get here and hope that tickets are available. Or you could give us a call, and we can get the tickets for you. It's that easy. Get your tickets to see The Book of Mormon on Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on Broadway. It is fantastic. Until next time theatre fans.
