Stage Version Of To Kill A Mockingbird To Open On Broadway

To Kill A MockingbirdOne of my favorite books in high school was Harper Lee's masterpiece To Kill A Mockingbird. So imagine how excited I was when I found out that they turned it into a brand new Broadway play. Not only that, but it is being adapted to the stage by Academy and Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin.

Oh but wait, it gets even better. Starring as Southern attorney Atticus Finch is Emmy winner and Tony Award nominee Jeff Daniels. Oh and did I mention that directing the show is Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (Oslo, Fiddler On The Roof). Now do you see why I am so excited about seeing it?

Previews for the show are set to begin on November 1at the Shubert Theatre, with opening night scheduled for December 13. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. Get your tickets to see To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

Daniel Radcliffe To Return To Broadway In The Lifespan Of A Fact

The Lifespan of a FactWho would have thought that Harry Potter himself would end up becoming a Broadway star? And no I'm not talking about the mega hit Tony Award winner Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two. I am of course talking about actor Daniel Radcliffe, who is making his fourth appearance on the Great White Way in the last ten years.

Now here is again for the first time since 2014, where he will star in the new play in The Lifespan Of A Fact. Starring along side Mr. Radcliffe is Tony and Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones, and Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Bobby Cannavale. Now besides being based on a true story, it is unique for the fact that the show is authored not by one, but three playwrights.

Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell and Gordon Farrell. Previews are set to begin at Studio 54 on September 20 with opening night scheduled for October 18. The show, which runs an hour and thirty-five minutes with no intermission is set to close on January 13. Tickets for the eagerly anticipated play are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling it. Get your tickets to see The Lifespan Of A Fact on Broadway at Studio 54 Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Bound Production Of Tootsie Finds A Home

Let's be honest. We all have our favorite films. I personally, have quite the list. Now my favorite movie of all time is "The Shawshank Redemption". Great movie right? After that, is "Mr. Holland's Opus", and coming in at third, is what I think is the greatest comedy of all time. Care to guess what it is theatre fans?

That's right. It's none other than Tootsie. Released in late 1982, and nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture of the Year, Tootsie starred Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman as the talented, yet neurotic actor Michael Dorsey, who transforms himself into actress Dorothy Michaels. Now here we are thirty-six years later, and my favorite comedy of all time is headed to the Broadway stage.

Well not right away. First, it is making a pit stop at the Cadillac Theatre in Chicago from September 11 thru October 19. Previews for the Broadway production are set to begin a the Marquis Theatre on March 29, 2019, with opening night scheduled for April 23.

Directed by eight-time Tony Award nominee Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, 1776, You Can't Take It With You), and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Denis Jones (Holiday Inn, Honeymoon In Vegas), Tootsie stars Tony Award nominee Santino Fontana as Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels, Lily Cooper as Julia Nichols (SpongeBob SquarePants), Sarah Stiles as Sandy Lester, John Behlmann as Max Van Horn, Andy Grotelueschen as Jeff Slater, Julie Halston as Rita Marshall, Tony Award winner Michael McGrath as Stan Fields, and Reg Rogers as Ron Carlisle.

Tickets for the Chicago engagement are now on sale, with tickets for the Broadway production scheduled to go on sale in the coming months. Check back here for further updates. Get your tickets to see Tootsie at the Cadillac Theatre, and at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway next Spring. I can't wait. Until next time theatre fans.

New Musical The Prom Headed To The Great White Way

The PromShow of hands. Who here went to their Senior Prom? Sadly my hand is still at my side. Now don't feel sorry for me. It was my choice. Do I regret it? A little. But thankfully, there is a brand new musical coming to Broadway, that looks like just as fun as the real thing.

The Prom, which first premiered in 2016 at the Alliance Theatre in London, is set to begin previews at the Longacre Theatre on October 23, with opening night scheduled for November 15. Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), The Prom tells the story of an Indiana teen who is barred from bringing her girlfriend to her high school prom, causing a group of Broadway performers to protest on her behalf.

Starring Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone), and Tony nominees Christopher Seiber (Shrek), and Brooks Ashmanskas (Something Rotten), The Prom is sure to be a highlight of the Fall Broadway season. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you have come to the right place. We sell it. In fact, we sell every new play and musical this season. Kerry Washington To Return To Broadway In American Son

American SonWhat's that? You didn't know that Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Kerry Washington had been on Broadway before? Well she has. In fact, she made her Broadway debut back in 2010 in David Mamet's Race. Now eight years later, she returns to the Great White Way in American Son.

The show, written by Christopher Demos-Brown, who is making his Broadway debut, and directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin In The Sun), will begin previews at the Booth Theatre on October 6, with opening night scheduled for November 4.

So what's the show all about? Well according to the show's official site, the show takes place at a Florida police station, as a worried mother frantically searches for her missing son. As the evening progresses, the lives of two parents, as well as their families, find themselves at a crossroads.

Gettin' the Band Back TogetherLast night I saw an original new musical called Gettin' The Band Back Together. Yes you heard that right. An original new musical. I say that, because they are so rare these days. Anyway, being in the industry that I am in, I often get invited to see most of the new shows prior to opening. That way when customers call wanting my opinion, I can tell them whether I liked it, or not.

Well as you can tell by the title of today's blog, I loved it. In fact, I can't remember the last time I laughed that much at a Broadway show. Incredible performers, catchy tunes, and a story that proves that dreams can come true no matter how old you are.

Not only that, but if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas To Return This December

Image result for the grinch stole christmas musicalThat's right theatre fans. One of the holiday's most popular shows is headed back to the Big Apple. Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas, which first premiered in 1998 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, will return to the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden on December 13 thru December 30.

Growing up as a child, the book, as well as the television movie was a favorite of mine. However I will admit, that I was a little hesitant when they announced that the show was coming to Broadway in 2006. As it turns out, I was worried for nothing. It was incredible, not to mention the perfect way to celebrate the holidays.

Now for those of you who want tickets to see this beloved, heart warming tale on stage, you are in luck. We sell it. Well we will starting on August 1. That's only six days away for those of you keeping count. Get your tickets to see Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas at the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Avenue Q Turns 15

Avenue QHas it really been fifteen years since one of my favorite show's first opened? Man time sure does fly doesn't it? Avenue Q, which first premiered Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in July 2003, before heading to Broadway, is still playing to packed houses eight times a week at New World Stages.

The show, which won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year, is by far one of the funniest shows that you will ever see. In fact, it was the first Broadway show my parent's ever saw, and they still talk about it some thirteen years later.

Still not convinced? Well for those of you out there who are still on the fence, here is a brief synopsis of Avenue Q from the show's official website. Enjoy!

Avenue Q is the "hilarious and internationally-acclaimed musical about a group of 20-somethings — people and puppets alike — who move to New York with big dreams and tiny bank accounts. Together they live as neighbors on a street in New York as they try to discover their purpose in life."

The musical's characters include Princeton, Kate Monster, Trekkie Monster, Lucy, Nicky, Rod, Gary Coleman, Brian and Christmas Eve. The score includes "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist," "If You Were Gay," "The More You Ruv Someone" and "Schadenfreude."

Now as I mentioned, the show is celebrating it's fifteenth anniversary. Not only that, but in honor of this "Special Occasion" they are pulling out all the stops. Starting tonight thru July 29, the show will feature past cast members of the show including original stars and Tony Award nominees Stephanie D'Abruzzo and John Tartaglia, as well as Jennifer Barnhart and Rick Lyon.

Let me guess. You all want to see it now don't you? Well good news theatre fans. You have come to the right place. Plus if you call now, you can get tickets to this award winning musical at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru November 18 it is for select seats only, and like always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Avenue Q at New World Stages. Gettin' the Band Back TogetherThat's right theatre fans. The band is back. I know. I know. You didn't even know they broke up right? Well they did. Thankfully they came back to their senses, and got the band back together once again. Like how I found a way to get the title in there?

Wicked Makes History

Wicked
I don't know what it is, but it feels like every year, or every couple of years, I find myself writing a blog about Wicked and it's historic run. From it's record breaking productions around the world, to it's lengthy celebrated run on Broadway, Wicked continues to get more popular year after year. Not only that, but as of July 12, Wicked became the 6th longest running show in Broadway history, surpassing A Chorus Line.

Now believe it or not, but the Broadway production got mixed reviews when it opened. Yet here we are fifteen years later, and the show is still going strong. Take that critic's. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it. In fact we sell every show on Broadway. Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre. West Side Story To Return To Broadway In 2019

Image result for west side story logoExciting news theatre fans. One of Broadway's most beloved shows of all time is headed back to the Great White Way. West Side Story, which believe it or not first premiered sixty-one years ago, is set to begin previews at a Broadway theatre to be announced on December 10, 2019, with opening night scheduled for February 6, 2020.

Two months of previews for a revival? I guess they want to make sure it's perfect. It was also announced today, that the show is being directed by Tony Award winning director Ivo van Hove (A View From A Bridge, The Crucible), with new choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

Yes that's right. This will be the first Broadway production not to use Jerome Robbin's iconic choreography. Now some may not agree with that, but I think it's time to put a new spin on this beloved musical. Here's hoping I am right. Until next time theatre fans.

Theater Etiquette

As a huge theatregoer, what's the worse thing that can happen to you? (Besides losing your tickets or the show closing!)

It, of course, is when a fellow audience member is so distracting you can't enjoy yourself at the show.

In my case, it was my most recent trip to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. As a huge Broadway and Harry Potter fan, I had been waiting for months to see the show. Not only that, but I also had spent a lot of money to see the show as well.

Although I am a complete believer that children should be exposed to the arts, I think the fact that there is an age limit for Broadway theatres is an important thing to be aware of if you have children. I won't get into too many details of the negative experience, but the person who affected my time at the theatre was a child, and wasn't able to be respectful of the other patron in the theatre.

When another audience member is so distracting that you can't enjoy yourself at the show, it is unacceptable.

Here's a few top tips on theatre etiquette:

  1. Be mindful of those around you.
Don't rustle your snacks too loudly. Please don't talk to your neighbor. Be sure to turn off your cell phone AND smart watches. And no matter how much you love the show, PLEASE do not sing along. Patrons are there to see the actors perform, not you.
  2. Be on time.
This is the cardinal rule of seeing a Broadway show. Some theatres have very strict guidelines about being late, and some won't let you into the show until a few minutes into the show or even at intermission. However, in many shows after the first overture you're permitted to go in. It can be distracting, so do your best to be on time.
  3. If you're taking children to see the show, go over the theatre rules with them!
Bringing kids to the theatre is such a fun experience! Make sure they're the right age to see a show, though. If they can't sit through a movie at the movie theatre, a Broadway show probably isn't the best choice for them. Fidgeting happens, even to us adults, but if your child is distracting other people during the show, as a parent you have a responsibility to the patrons around you to ensure their experience won't be ruined.
  4. If you have to cough, cover your mouth.
I get it, allergies exist! However, if you cough or sneeze during the show, please don't do it on the neck of the patron in front of you.
  5. Don't record the show or take pictures.
Although this seems obvious, you'd be surprised how many people in an audience try to record a show or take pictures. I get it, you want to remember this incredible experience you're having at the show. But the magic of theatre is that it's a unique experience every time you see a live show. If you pull out your phone during a show, an usher will most likely swoop in on you with a beaming flashlight. It's distracting for the others around you, and very rude. Just enjoy the experience while you're there!
Have you ever had a negative audience experience at a Broadway show before? We'd love to hear it!

"A Bronx Tale" Set to Close On Broadway

On August 5th, A Bronx Tale will take its final bow. At the time of closing, the show will have played 29 previews and 700 regular performances.

Chazz Palminteri, who's life was the inspiration for the show, joined the cast in May. He is the only actor to play the same role on stage, film and in the musical production of the same show. He is playing select performances until the time of closing.

Palminteri played his one man show of A Bronx Tale on the West coast before bringing it off-Broadway in 1989. The show played New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse before officially opening on Broadway in 2016.
