Exciting news theatre fans. One of this season's most critically acclaimed new musicals is headed to the Great White Way. The Band's Visit, which won two Lucille Lortel Awards, including Outstanding Musical, will begin previews at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on October 7, with opening night scheduled for November 9.
Based on the award winning 2007 film, The Band's Visit tells the story of the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Band, who are hired to play at the opening of a new cultural center in Israel. Shortly after their arrival, they discover that not only have their hosts not arrived, but they are in the wrong place, with no transportation and no place to stay.
The show, which is being directed by David Cromer (Our Town), features a score by Tony nominee David Yazbeck (The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.), and a book by Itamar Moses.
