In December 2011, a new musical called Once opened Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop. It went on to be a huge hit, transferring to Broadway, and winning eight 2012 Tony Awards, including Best Musical of the Year. So what does this have to do with today's blog?
Well as it turns out the new musical Sing Street, which is set to open on Broadway in March, got it's start at the same Off-Broadway Theatre. Not only that, but the shows book writer is the same one from Once. Seeing a pattern? The show, based on the 2016 indie film of the same name, is scheduled to begin previews at the Lyceum Theatre on March 26, with opening night set for April 19.
Set in Dublin in the 1980's, Sing Street features a New Wave score by John Carney and Gary Clark, a book by Tony Award winner Enda Walsh, choreography by Sonya Tayeh, and direction by Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent). Tickets for the critically acclaimed musical are now on sale. Not only that, but we are selling them. Get your tickets to see Sing Street on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.
