How to Find the Best Deals on Broadway Theatre Tickets

Find out all the tricks of the trade and secrets of the industry at Applause-Tickets.com!
Great Deals on Broadway Theatre Tickets
In today’s economic climate, it can often seem impossible to be able to do anything worthwhile with your family. Every trip, every dinner, every attraction can seem to drain your wallet to the point of panic. At Applause Tickets, we want to help the Broadway lovers out there in this time of financial instability. We believe that Broadway theatre tickets don’t have to be associated with impossibly high prices. Being Broadway experts and New York City locals, we have access to the best deals in the country. We do the behind the scenes work to find you Broadway theatre tickets at below face value prices.

Here’s how it works:
Like any relatively small industry, Broadway is incredibly tight knit. All of the theatre owners and managers have known each other for years. Being 20 year local ticket broker veterans, Applause Tickets knows these owners and managers as well and when shows have extra tickets, we are one of the first people to find out about it. Having an excess number of tickets to a show means that a theatre is willing to sell those tickets for discounted prices to us. We then pass those savings directly onto you – ensuring that you are getting the absolute best deal on tickets to shows that are usually priced much higher.

From week to week, we don’t always know which shows are going to have below face value priced Broadway theatre tickets. This is why it is especially important that you call us before making a decision about which show to see. Applause Tickets’ live operators are seasoned Broadway experts. They can help you pick out the perfect show that you may never have even heard of, ensuring that you are getting the best price for a show that you are guaranteed to love.

Don’t waste your time trying to figure out which show to see all on your own. Call us at 1-800-451-9930 today to begin planning a day or evening that you will remember forever.

Five People you Should Buy Broadway Tickets for This Year

Broadway Tickets are a great gift for anyone. Applause-Tickets.com has some ideas on who should receive the gift of Broadway this year.

Give the Gift of Broadway Tickets
Birthdays. Bat Mitzvahs. Thank Yous. I’m Sorrys. I love yous. Just because. All of these are reasons to give gifts. Choosing an occasion isn’t the hard part of giving gifts. Choosing the right gift is the hard part. Applause Tickets believes that everyone should give the gift of Broadway tickets this year. Going to a Broadway show is an experience unlike any other on earth. You simply can’t go wrong when you give someone tickets to a show – it’s an evening they will never forget.

Now that you have the occasion and the gift in mind, it’s time to start figuring out whom to give Broadway tickets to this year. Here are some ideas:
  1. Your mother. Yes, it’s an obvious choice but whom better to give something so special to than the woman who loves you more than anyone else on earth? Nothing says “Thank you for everything” like a couple of tickets to Promises Promises or Driving Miss Daisy.
  2. Your employee. Buying gifts for employees can be tough. You don’t want to be too personal or too generic. That’s why the gift of Broadway tickets is a perfect compromise. If you don’t know them well enough to buy tickets to a specific show, get them an Applause Tickets gift card!
  3. Your hairdresser. It might seem overly generous to give the gift of Broadway tickets to your hairdresser but we don’t think so at all. Your hairdresser works hard every 6 to 8 weeks to make you look your absolute best. Don’t they deserve the best as well?
  4. Your best friend. Your best friend is probably one of those people who are always thinking of the best, most original gifts to give to their friends. It’s time to give them something that is just as thoughtful and original this year – Broadway tickets. If you get them two tickets, they might even take you with them!
  5. Your boyfriend. He might not seem like the most obvious choice as a chosen recipient for Broadway tickets as most men scorn all things theatre. Use this opportunity to enlighten him on just how incredible Broadway can be – when you choose the right show.

Now you’re ready to give the gifts of Broadway tickets. If you need help picking out the perfect show for your chosen recipient, call one of the experts at Applause Tickets today – or buy an Applause Tickets gift card so they can go to any show of their choosing.

Top Three Reasons to get Broadway Tickets for your Kids

Broadway has more reasons than ever to take your children to see a show. Find out the top reasons your kids will love their first Broadway show at Applause-Tickets.com.

Broadway Tickets for Kids
In today’s world, kids are seriously starved for culture and non television-based activities. It can feel like World War Three every time you try to get them to drop the video game remote controls. With so many of a child’s entertainment options based in electronics – video games, computer games, television – many parents are forgetting that there are other activities out there that your children will love; if you’d only give them a chance.

Tickets to a Broadway show might not seem like the most obvious choice in activities for children. Many parents associate Broadway with long, overly dramatic shows with complicated plots and adult themes. You’ll be happy to hear that this is simply no longer the case! Many of today’s shows are kid AND adult friendly. Here are the top three reasons why you should buy Broadway tickets for your kids:
  1. Disney. Makes. Musicals. No, I’m not kidding. We’re talking some of the most beloved Disney movies of all time come to life on stage. Mary Poppins and The Lion King are the two current shows playing on Broadway and they are not only kid friendly but absolutely incredible productions.
  2. Cultural activities are good for developing minds. Developing a love for theatre at a young age will ensure that your children will spend their whole lives seeking new and different shows to see – on their own. Without this exposure at a young age, they might never know the incredible joys of a Broadway show. Plus, that first show might just inspire a career goal!
  3. Broadway makes memories. Getting Broadway tickets is buying a pass to an entire afternoon or evening experience. The act of going to some of the grandest, most beautiful theatres in the world is something that your children will never forget.
Do your family a favor and buy Broadway tickets for a fun and unique family activity. Your children will be experiencing something unlike anything they’ve ever seen, felt, or heard before. You’ll be amazed at how much they love it. Call Applause Tickets today at 1-800-451-9930 to speak to one of our Broadway experts about which show you should take your family to see.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Tampa,Florida. Now as much as I love New York Tampa sounds pretty good right about now. New York is cold. Early last week I received a call from a very nice lady who was planning a last minute trip to New York with her family. Since her date of arrival was in less than a week she was concerned that there wouldn't be any tickets left for the shows that she wanted to see. I told her not to worry since she was coming in on a Monday and it would not be as hectic as a weekend. Plus she picked two shows that had plenty of availability. Her first choice was Billy Elliot. Now while the show continues to be one of Broadway's biggest seller's it is pretty easy to get seats during the week.

Not only that but at a price that is lower than usual. After selecting the date I was able to find her four nice seats in the Front Mezzanine for $110 each. Which is case you didn't know is below face value. Well she loved that. So now that the first show was all set it was time to take care of show number two. Care to guess what it could be? Why the Radio City Christmas Spectacular of course. Now while the show is a favorite during the holiday season it is not the big seller it once was. I'm guessing the economy has something to do with that. Anyway I was able to find her four excellent seats in the 2nd Mezzanine at a low rate as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Wicked has been seen by over 3.75 million people on Broadway since it opened in October 2003. That’s about twice the population of Manhattan.

Over 4 million additional people have seen Wicked on its North American tour. This isn’t even counting the semi-permanent shows that took place in Chicago and Los Angeles. These three shows combined have all broken attendance records in nearly every major city in North America.

It’s not just Americans who love Wicked – the show has sold out in London, Australia, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands.

People just can’t get enough of Gregory Maguire’s Wizard of Oz story of Glinda the not-as-good-as-you-think witch and Elphaba, the unfortunately hued witch who gets a bad rap from the Wizard of Oz. Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Isanti,Minnesota. Don't feel bad. I've never heard of that town before either. So anyway earlier this week I received a call from a very nice gentleman who was surprising his wife with a trip to New York for the holidays and wanted to see a few shows while they were here. After finding out the dates that he was available I asked him what they wanted to see. His choices were Elf,The Lion King,Rain, and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Oh did I mention that he and his wife were coming during the holidays?

Now as we all know New York is very busy during that time of the year. That's probably why I escape to Illinois during that week. Well that and to visit my parent's of course. So now that I knew what he wanted to see I set out to find the tickets. Since he was coming in the day after Christmas I was able to get better seats and at prices that were lower than he was expecting. In fact I was able to get him great seats in the Front Mezzanine for Rain at "Below Face Value". Plus I was also able to get him even better seats for the other three shows as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

The Scottsboro Boys And Bloody,Bloody Andrew Jackson To Close In The Coming Weeks

Really? Two of this season's most acclaimed new musicals can't even last more than a couple of months? What is this business coming too? Now while I did not get the chance to see The Scottsboro Boys I did see Bloody,Bloody Andrew Jackson. I enjoyed it. Do I think it would have played better in a smaller house Off-Broadway? You bet. The thing is in you never can tell how a show is going to do these days. I take that back. If a show has a star than it is a pretty safe bet it will do well at the box office. That is unless your name is Brendan Fraser. Now before you go getting on my case I enjoyed Elling and I think that Mr. Fraser is a very underrated actor. The show just wasn't popular with the critics or theatregoers. It happens. The Scottsboro Boys is set to close on December 12 with Bloody,Bloody Andrew Jackson playing it's final performance on January 2, 2011. That makes a total of fourteen shows closing during the month of January. Yes I know that happens every year. Doesn't make it any less sad. Until next time theatre fans.

See Tony Winner La Cage Aux Folles For Below Face Value

That's right theatre lovers. Now is the best time to get your tickets to see La Cage Aux Folles. The show which won three 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival opened at the Longacre Theatre on April 18 following a sold out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London where it won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. Headlining the new production are Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer as Georges and Tony winner Douglas Hodge as Albin who won both the Tony and Olivier Award for his performance as Albin. They are set to leave the show on February 13, 2011. Now I like most expected the show to close when they left.

However it looks as if the show is sticking around as it was recently announced that fellow Tony winner and author of the show's libretto Harvey Fierstein would be replacing Hodges in the role of Albin. Maybe the show has a life after all. By the way for those of you who want tickets to see this Tony winning farce you have come to the right place. From now thru December 19 you can tickets to see La Cage Aux Folles for prices that can't be beat. Be advised that this "Special Offer" is not good for Saturday evening performances and is subject to availability. Get your tickets to see La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway. You will love it.

Christmas Is Just Around The Corner

Still recovering from all that turkey you ate on Thanksgiving? Well get ready because Christmas is here folks. Yes I know we still have four more weeks but trust me. It will be here before you know it. In fact two days from now is the annual tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center and Wednesday will mark the first day of Hanukkah. See I told you Christmas was just around the corner.

Now as we all know the holidays can be a stressful time. Not too mention expensive. The thing is is doesn't have to be. Believe it or not but the cost of a Broadway ticket isn't as much as you might think. Oh sure if you are the type of person that has to sit in the "First Ten Rows Center" then you better be prepared to pay up. However if you are like me and you don't care where you sit then you have come to the right place my friends.

Right now there are over twenty-five shows both on and Off-Broadway that you can see for......wait for it.....below face value. Let me guess. You think I've lost my mind right? Well if you don't believe me then just check out this link and see for yourself. Now who's the crazy one? Now in case your show isn't listed there it doesn't mean it''s not available. It just means that it will cost you a little more to see it. The choice is yours. Live theatre. There is nothing like it. Until next time theatre lovers.

Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark To Begin Previews Today

The wait is finally over. After years and years of delays everyone's favorite superhero is about to take the Great White Way by storm. O.K. I might be over exaggerating a little bit. It hasn't been delayed that long. It just feels like it. The show which was originally supposed to begin previews on November 14 is one of this season's most highly anticipated new shows as well as one of it's most controversial. The press has been having a field day with the show for months now and I expect that to continue in the coming weeks. Will the show surprise us all and become a hit?The truth is even if the show were to receive rave reviews it would still have to sell at full capacity for five years straight to make back it's investment. Look I for one hope it succeeds. Maybe if it does it will encourage more mainstream musicians like Bono and The Edge to try their luck on Broadway. Or the show will bomb so bad that not only will it scare away those types it will also show that millions of dollars and fancy acrobatics will not guarantee a hit or lots of awards come Tony time. We shall see. Can't wait for the reviews. Until next time.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Bozeman, Montana. Late last week I received a call from a travel agent who wanted to inquire about a few shows for one of her regular clients. Let me rephrase that. He wanted to see ten shows. Not only that but ten shows in five days. Now I love the theatre as much as the next guy but not even I would want to see that many shows in such a short amount of time. Now after perusing his list of shows I soon realized that he would probably have to cross a couple of shows off his list in order to make it work.

Since he had already seen Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera he decided he could skip those two this time around. Problem solved. So now that I had the shows and the dates it was time to put everything together. Since he didn't care which show he saw on what day it was left up to me to decide the order. Like I didn't already have enough pressure in my life already. To be honest it was a lot easier to figure out then I thought.

Tuesday was Chicago.Wednesday brought a double bill of West Side Story and Memphis as did Thursday with Promises,Promises and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Since he would have to do two shows on Saturday (A Little Night Music and Billy Elliot) I scheduled Mamma Mia for Friday night so he could have the afternoon free to check out the city and do some shopping. There are other things to do here besides theatre you know. So there you have it folks. Eight shows in less than a week. I'm getting tired just thinking about it. Until next time theatre fans.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker

So here I sit on a cold Sunday morning at work trying to figure out something to blog about. To be honest there's not a lot going on as far as theatre goes. No surprise there as most of the big shows don't usually open until the Spring anyway. As of now there are fifteen new shows set to open between now and the end of April. Seven of those are new musicals.

The Book of Mormon
Catch Me If You Can
The People In The Picture
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Sister Act
Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark
Wonderland

Pretty interesting line-up wouldn't you say? Now the truth is out of all of those shows the only one that I am really looking forward to is Spider-Man. Not because I think it will be any good but because I think it won't. I just love a good train wreck. The others I can take or leave. Oh sure The Book of Mormon is sure to be a laugh riot and Priscilla will be a major camp fest.

Who cares? I don't know about you but I am sick and tired of seeing big Hollywood movies turned into musicals. Where are the original ideas people? Where is the substance? What's next? Iron Man The Musical? Trust me. I'm sure somebody out there is already thinking about it. I'm done. Until next time theatre fans.

Tickets For Bengal Tiger At The Baghdad Zoo Starring Robin Williams Now On Sale

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most highly anticipated new shows is now on sale. Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo which stars Academy and Emmy Award winner Robin Williams will begin previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on March 11, 2011 with opening night set for March 31.

The show which was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize is described as a 'ferocious comedy that follows the intertwined lives of a tiger, two American marines and an Iraqi gardener as they roam the streets of Baghdad in search of friendship, redemption and a toilet seat made of gold."

Now I love Robin Williams as much as the next guy but Patch Adams as a tiger? Really? I don't know. The fact that the show was up for the Pulitzer Prize does give it a little credibility so maybe it will turn out to be good. We shall see. Get your tickets to see Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Catchy title isn't it? Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Production Of Mary Poppins Celebrates Anniversary

That's right theatre fans. Broadway's most loved nanny is celebrating a milestone. Mary Poppins which is based on the series of children's books by P. L. Travers and the acclaimed 1964 film first opened in London in December 2004 prior to it's Broadway bow in November 2006. The show which continues to delight audiences of all ages eight times a week at the New Amsterdam Theatre remains one of Broadway's most popular shows. Plus being that there are very few kid friendly shows on Broadway these days you can bet that Mary Poppins will be here for a long time to come my friends.

Growing up as a child the film was always a favorite of mine so when the show was first announced I'll admit I wasn't sure if the stage version would live up to my expectations. Well as it turns out I was worried for nothing. I loved the show. Now for those of you out there who think the show is just for kids you would be wrong. Dead wrong. It's a show that whole family can enjoy. How many shows can say that? Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. You will have the time of your life.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Tennessee. Earlier in the week I received a call from a very nice lady who was looking for tickets for the end of the year. I asked her what she wanted to see and she told me that there were three shows that her and her family were hoping to see during their visit. Her first choice was the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

I told her that since she was going after Christmas that not only would I be able to get her great seats but probably at a lower rate as well. So after taking care of her first show I asked her what she wanted to see next. She told me that although she needed five tickets for the Christmas Spectacular she would only need three tickets for the other two shows since the men were going to a basketball game instead.

I asked her if she needed any suggestions on what to see and she said that Promises,Promises was at the top of her list but needed help on picking the other show. I told her that although Promises,Promises was a very popular show I should be able to get her some very nice seats for that one as well. So now that show number two was set it was time to move on to her third and final show. Can you guess what I suggested? Why In The Heights of course.

Surprised aren't you?Now before you think I pushed the show on her because it is a favorite of mine you would be right. However a friend of hers had seen the show when it came to Orlando this past Spring and suggested she see it during her trip to New York. Since she had spent a little more to get a better seat for Promises,Promises she was hoping to see In The Heights for a lower price.

Having seen the show I told her that since the theatre is very small she should sit in the Rear Mezzanine as the price is lower and she would still have a very good view. Well she loved that. So there you are folks. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

See Tony Winner Chicago For Below Face Value This Fall

Now in it's fourteenth record breaking year on Broadway is Chicago. The show which first opened back on Broadway in 1975 is still one of Broadway's top selling shows. The truth is most shows are lucky enough to run for a few years so fourteen is a major accomplishment. In fact it will celebrate it's anniversary tomorrow. Having seen the show early in it's run I was blown away by it's simplicity and it's ability to tell a compelling story without a big fancy set or a bunch of lavish costumes.

Who says you have to spend millions of dollars to make a show a success? Yes Julie Taymor I am talking to you. By the way for those of you folks out there who want to see the show there is no better time than the present. From now thru February 6, 2011 you can get tickets to see this Tony winning musical at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that this "Insider Deal" is not good for Saturday evening performances and subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Chicago on Broadway. It is theatre at it's finest.

The Lion KIng Celebrates Miletone

Has it really been 13 years since The Lion King opened on Broadway? Time sure does fly doesn't it? The show which first premiered in Minneapolis in July 1997 opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on November 13, 1997 where it remained until June 2006 when it moved uptown three blocks to the Minskoff Theatre. Now those of you who read my blogs know that I am not a big fan of the show. To be honest I'm not a big fan of Disney on Broadway period. Now while I may not care for them they do have their place. After all if it wasn't for them most kids would never experience the thrill of seeing a Broadway show. For that reason alone they should be commended.
