2019 Big Apple Circus Is Now On Sale

Related imageOne of my favorite memories growing up was when my Mom and Dad would take me to the circus. I must have gone at least once or twice a year from ages three to ten. Good times. My favorite thing besides the giant elephants, were the acrobatics.

Oh and of course the food. There is nothing better than watching a bunch of people flying thru the air while munching down on a juicy corn dog, or a delicious giant swirl of cotton candy.

Now while it's been over three decades since I sat there under the big top, I hope one day I get the chance to share that experience with my kids. Of course it would probably help if I had a girlfriend or wife first. Good thing I'm still young.

Now for those of you who fellow New Yorker's out there that want to see a once in a lifetime event, you have come to the right place. The Big Apple Circus. This New York institution, which first premiered in 1977, is set to begin performances at Lincoln Center Damrosch Park on October 12, 2019 and play thru February 2, 2020.

Oh and did I mention that we sell it? Well we do. Plus if you call right now, you can get tickets to see the Big Apple Circus at prices that can't be beat. Get your tickets to see The Big Apple Circus in well...The Big Apple. Who knows? You might just see me there. Until next time circus fans.

Customer Story

To Kill A MockingbirdToday's customer story comes all the way from the great state of South Dakota. Pierre to be exact. Earlier this week, I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planing a trip to New York at the end of this month, and wanted to see a few shows while she and her husband were here. I take that back. They actually wanted to see four shows. Now I love going to the theatre, but four shows in four days? I don't think even I could do that.

Anyway, after finding out when they would be here, I asked what her client wanted to see. Her choices? The Book of Mormon, To Kill A Mockingbird, Ain't Too Proud, and Balanchine at the NYC Ballet. Quite the lineup of shows don't you think? Now since they were only going to be there for a short time, they knew that they would have to see at least two of the shows on the same day.Thankfully, I was able to do that and still leave them plenty of time after the matinee to get a bite to eat before the evening show. Two down. Two to go.

Now when it came to securing tickets for To Kill A Mockingbird, they knew that tickets might be hard to come by. Not too mention expensive. Thankfully, I was able to find them great seats in the Center Orchestra. And at at price that was lower than they were expecting. Three shows down. One to go. Their fourth and final show was Balanchine at the NYC Ballet. Initially when the agent called they wanted to see an entirely different ballet. Unfortunately it wasn't available. However, after I told the agent that this particular ballet was being choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon, they were very excited as they had seen his production of An American in Paris a few years ago, and loved it. So there you have it folks. Four great shows, with great seats and prices to boot. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

London Production Of Company Headed To Broadway This Spring

Exciting news theatre fans. One of the theatre's most critically acclaimed shows of all time is headed back to Broadway. Company, which first premiered on the Great White Way in 1970, and features an award winning book by George Furth, and music and lyrics by eight-time Tony Award winner Stephen Sondheim, is set to begin previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on March 2, 2020, with opening night scheduled for March 22, which just happens to coincide with Mr. Sondheim's 90th Birthday.

What a way to celebrate huh? Based on the recent award winning London production, this new take on this beloved musical is a little different than previous versions. I take that back. It is a lot different. How you ask? Well for starters, it is now no longer about a confirmed bachelor named Bobby. No, now it is about a confirmed bachelorette named Bobbi. But that's not it theatre fans. Now instead of Bobby being pursued by a trio of lovely ladies named Marta, Kathy, and April, Bobbi, is pursued by a trio of charming men in the form of PJ, Theo and Andy. But wait. I'm still not done. One of the most famous songs in the show is the frantic patter song, "I'm Not Getting Married Today" sung by a neurotic bride-to-be named Amy, on the eve of her wedding to Paul.

Now while Paul is still Paul, Amy is now Jamie. Confused yet? Now while I wasn't sure if this new gender-reversed production would work, I was definitely intrigued. Well obviously it worked, as the show was nominated for nine 2019 Olivier Award nominations, where it won Best Musical Revival of the Year. Oh but wait. There's more. Reprising her Olivier Award winning performance as Joanne is two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone. Not only that, but it was just announced that Tony Award winner Katrina Link (The Band's Visit), will be playing the leading role of Bobbi. Oh and did I mention that the show is being directed by Tony Award winner Marianne Elliott (War Horse)? It just gets better and better doesn't it? As of now no on sale date has been announced. Be sure to check this website for further updates. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Revival Of Caroline Or Change To Open In April

Image result for caroline or change london pictures2004. Quite an interesting year on Broadway. You had two monster hits in the form of Wicked and Boy From Oz, and two critically acclaimed musicals in the form of Avenue Q and Caroline or Change. Although technically you could put Avenue Q in the hit category, as it went on to have a successful run playing both on and Off-Broadway for over fifteen years.

Not bad for a show featuring a bunch of puppets. Oh and of course it went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year. Now of those four shows that I mentioned, the only one I didn't see was Caroline or Change. Something I regret to this day, as I have been hearing from my friends and colleagues for years at how great it truly was. Cut to all these years later, and I will finally get to correct that mistake.

Caroline or Change, is set to begin previews at Studio 54 on March 13, 2020, with opening night scheduled for April 7. It was also announced, that reprising her Olivier Award winning performance as Caroline is actress Sharon D. Clarke. Tickets for the show are set to go on sale on November 11. Oh and did I mention that we will be selling them? Well we will. Get your tickets to see Caroline or Change on Broadway at Studio 54. Expect the show to be a big contender at next year's Tony Awards. Until next time theatre fans.

New Musical Flying Over Sunset To Open On Broadway Next Spring

Quick question. What does Clare Booth Luce, Aldous Huxley, and Cary Grant all have in common? Give up? Well, if you guessed that they are all featured characters in the new LSD influenced musical Flying Over Sunset, then you would be right.

The new musical, which features music by Tony Award winner Tom Kitt (Next To Normal), lyrics by Tony Award nominee Michael Korie (Grey Gardens), and book and direction by Tony Award winner James Lapine (Falsettos), is set to begin previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre on March 12, 2020, with opening night scheduled for April 16.

By the way, this will be the first original musical to play at that theatre since Contact in 2000, which went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year. Will lighting strike twice? We shall see. Now in case you are wondering who has been cast to play these three eccentric famous folks, you don't have to wonder any longer.

Playing the roles of playwright and diplomat Clare Booth Luce, writer Aldous Huxley, and Hollywood leading man Cary Grant, are a trio of Tony Award nominees in the form of Carmen Cusack (Bright Star), Harry Hadden-Paton (My Fair Lady), and Tony Yazbek (On The Town). Quite the cast don't you think? An on sale date for tickets has yet to be announced. Be sure to check this website for future updates. Slava's Snowshow To Return To Broadway This November

Working in the industry that I am in, we often get invited to a majority of the new shows. That way when people call us wanting to know what we think about the show, we can give them our honest opinion.Which brings me to today's blog. In December 2008, our staff was invited to a new show called Slava's Snowshow.

Now at the time, all I knew about the show was that it had premiered in Moscow in 1993, prior to a worldwide tour, including a very successful production Off-Broadway, that played for over a thousand performances. It also won the 1998 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, and was nominated in 2009 for Best Special Theatrical Event, losing to EGOT winner Liza Minnelli.

Created and staged by Slava Polunin, who has been called one of the world's greatest clowns, Slava's Snowshow will begin previews at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on November 11, and play thru January 5.Now for those of you who want tickets to see the show, you are in luck. We sell it.Oh and just in case you were wondering, I loved the show. Get your tickets to see Slava's Snowshow on Broadway at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.

Bob Dylan Musical Girl From The North Country To Open on Broadway In 2020

Girl from the North Country (musical).jpgIn the Fall of 2006, I saw a new musical based on the music of Bob Dylan called "The Times They Are a-Changin'. Now to be honest, I was really looking forward to it as the show's director Tony Award winner Twyla Tharp, was also the director and creator of Movin Out.

I loved that show. Of course it also helped that the show featured the music of my favorite songwriter Grammy and Tony Award winner Billy Joel. Now while I think Bob Dylan is one of the greatest songwriter's of all time, the story was not the greatest.

Plus being a writer myself, if the book is weak, it can really effect the show. No matter how great the music. Having said that, I am looking forward to seeing the latest Bob Dylan musical. Featuring direction and a book by Tony Award nominee and Olivier Award winner Conor McPherson (The Weir, The Seafarer), and over twenty classic Bob Dylan songs including "Like A Rolling Stone", "Make You Feel My Love", "Hurricane", "Forever Young", "Jokerman", Girl From The North Country is scheduled to begin previews at the Belasco Theatre on February 7, 2020, with opening night set for March 5.

Set in Duluth, Minnesota, during the height of the Great Depression, Girl From The North Country, tells the tale of the Laine family, owners of the local guesthouse, who's future is being threatened with foreclosure by the bank. An on sale date for tickets has yet to be announced. Be sure to check this website for future updates. Get your tickets to see Girl From The North Country on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. The Lightning Thief The Percy Jackson Musical poster.jpgNow I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to the new show The Lighting Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, I am probably not their demographic. New Play The Sound Inside Starring Mary-Louise Parker To Open This Fall

The Sound InsideIn November 2003, I was at a major crossroads in my life. My job as a customer service supervisor was eliminated, and for the first time in a decade I was unemployed. My first thought was to find another job in my field. However, I decided that the time was now to take a little break from customer service to pursue another dream of mine. Also it helped that I had a few dollars in the bank to make that dream come true.

So I know what you're wondering? What does all of this have to do with today's blog? Well as it turns out, my dream was to work on a film. And luckily for me, I knew someone that could help with that. Less than a week after losing my job, I was in New Jersey working as a production assistant on the same set as Academy Award nominee Ed Harris, Zooey Deschanel, and Will Farrell. The movie? Winter Passing.

The writer and director? Adam Rapp. Who just happens to be the writer for The Sound Inside. O.K. O.K. enough about me and my dream job. The play, which mark's Mr. Rapp's Broadway debut, is set to begin previews at Studio 54 on September 14, with opening night scheduled for October 17. So what is The Sound Inside all about? Well I'll tell you. The Sound Inside, stars Ms. Parker as Yale professor and fiction writer Bella Baird, who while mentoring a gifted young writer, finds herself in a losing battle with cancer. Starring along side Tony and Emmy Award winner Mary-Louise Parker along side Will Hochman, who is making his Broadway debut.

The show, which is being directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer (The Band's Visit), premiered in 2018 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, where it received outstanding reviews. Here's hoping the Broadway production is just as successful. By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see The Sound Inside, you have come to the right place. We sell it. Not only that, but at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru January 12, 2020, it is for select seats, and as always subject to availability. Image result for diana the musical picsOh come on now. You knew it was going to happen eventually. Although to be honest, I always assumed it would have happened years ago. Diana, which had it's world premier at the La Jolla Playhouse this past April, is set to begin performances at the Longacre Theatre on March 2, 2020, with opening night scheduled for March 31.

The show, which takes place during her marriage to Prince Charles, as well as their eventual separation, is being directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley (Come From Away), and features a score and book by fellow Tony Award winners David Bryan and Joe DiPietro.

Now in case you have forgotten, those three gentleman scored a big hit ten years ago with Memphis, which went on to win four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical of the Year. Here's hoping lighting strikes twice.Leading the cast as Princess Diana and Prince Charles are Jeanna de Waal and Roe Hartrampf. Customer Story

HamiltonToday's customer story comes all the way from the "Lone Star" state. That's right. I am talking about the great state of Texas. Austin to be exact. Yesterday, I received a call from a travel agent who's client was planning a trip to New York next month, and wanted to see a couple of shows while they were here. Their choices?

Why none other than two of the most popular and successful shows of the past decade. That's right theatre fans. I am talking about none other than Hamilton and The Book of Mormon. Two great choices don't you think? So anyway, after finding out when they would be here, and what they wanted to see, I asked the agent the most important question of all.

How much did they want to spend? After all as you know Hamilton isn't exactly cheap. Thankfully I was able to find them excellent seats, and for a price that was lower than they were expecting. Not only that, but I got them great seats and prices for The Book of Mormon too.  So there you have it folks. Two fantastic shows, with amazing seats and some amazing prices to boot.
