Is it just me or does it feel like Audra McDonald was just on Broadway? Maybe it's because she has been a Broadway fixture for the better part of two decades. Plus she's won five Tony Awards since she made her Broadway debut in Carousel in 1994. For that role she won her first Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Now following her first Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical she is set to return to the Great White Way since 2012. Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill is set to begin previews at the Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway on March 25 with opening night set for April 13.
As of now the show is scheduled to run thru June 1. The show which played a limited run last year Off-Broadway is set in Philadelphia in 1959 and tells the story of legendary jazz singer Billy Holiday and the songs that made her famous. Audra McDonald as Billy Holiday? I don't know. However if anyone can pull it off it would be her. I mean you don't win five Tony Awards for nothing right?
