A.R. Gurney's Sylvia To Bow On Broadway This September

SylviaRaise your hand if you've ever owned a pet. Now I'm guessing most, if not all of you have your hand raised. Over the years I have owned everything from a goldfish, to a hamster. I have even owned a cat or two. However the one pet that I have never owned is a dog. Which brings me to today's blog. Sylvia. That's right. Sylvia is a play about a dog and it's relationship with it's owner. Now Sylvia is no ordinary dog mind you. This dog can talk. What's that you say? A talking dog? What kind of show is this?

Well believe it or not, but it's one of the most heartwarming shows you will ever see. I was fortunate enough to see the show when it first opened Off-Broadway back in May 1995. That production starred Charles Kimbrough, Blythe Danner, and Sarah Jessica Parker in the title role. This of course was before Sex in the City. Just imagine how popular it would have been if the show had opened just a few years later.

Now here we are over twenty years later, and Sylvia is making it's debut on the Great White Way. This new production, which is being directed by Tony winner Daniel J. Sullivan, will star Robert Sella, Tony winner Julie White, and recent Tony winner Annaleigh Asford as Sylvia. Great cast don't you think? O.K. so now that you know who is in it, I'm guessing you might want a little more info about the show before you purchase tickets. I mean besides it being a show about an owner and his dog. So here you go. Enjoy!

Has your pet changed your life? Have you ever wondered what she’s thinking when she stares up at you and tilts her head? Could she have the secret to understanding the world at large and your place in it? Or is she just more interested in how your shoe tastes? In Sylvia, the world of a middle-aged New York couple is turned topsy-turvy when the husband brings home an exceptionally engaging canine running loose in Central Park.

Sounds like a great night in the theater to me. So how do you get tickets? Well my friends it is easier than you might think. Just give us a call and one of our friendly ticket experts at Applause will do the rest. It's as simple as that. Previews are set to begin at the Cort Theatre on September 25, with opening night scheduled for October 15. Get your tickets to see Sylvia on Broadway. Until next time pet lover's.
