Now that's what I call exciting news theatre fans. One of my biggest regrets, well when it comes to the Broadway theatre, is that I never got around to seeing The Who's Tommy during it's New York City run in the mid 1990's. Well thankfully, that is about to change. Well at least not for another year and a half or so.
The show, which is based on the original rock concept album, is scheduled to open sometime in 2021. Interesting enough, yesterday's announcement coincides with the albums 50th anniversary. Has it really been fifty years? Man do I feel old. It was also announced, that the shows original director, two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff (Ain't Too Proud, Jersey Boys) will helm the new revival.
Now not only was the show one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the season, but it also helped launch the careers of future Tony Award winners Michael Cerveris, Alice Ripley, and Christian Hoff, but also Tony Award nominees Norm Lewis, Michael McElroy, and Sherrie Renee Scott. I wonder what future stars this new production will bring? We will soon find out. The theatre, as well as the dates of the show have yet to be announced. Be sure to check our website for further updates. Until next time theatre fans.
