That's right theatre fans. Alec Baldwin, the Emmy Award winning star of 30 Rock will make his highly anticipated return to Broadway this Spring in a revival of Orphans. Oh and did I mention it also stars rising film star Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). Now while this production will mark it's Broadway debut the show did play acclaimed engagements in both Chicago and London in the 1980's as well as a sold out production in 2005 starring Al Pacino. For those of you who are not familiar with the play here is a brief synopsis according to the shows website.
Two orphaned brothers are living in a
decrepit North Philadelphia row house. Treat, the eldest, supports his damaged
younger sibling by petty thievery, and makes the house a virtual prison for the
seemingly simple-minded Phillip. One night he kidnaps a rich older man; Harold
turns out to have his own motives and becomes the father figure the boys have
always yearned for.
Previews are set to begin at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on March 19, 2013 with opening night scheduled for April 7, 2013. Now while I am not familiar with the show I can't wait to see Alec Baldwin again on a Broadway stage. It has been too long in my opinion.
