A new Broadway revival of one of Broadway's most popular shows of all time, and it is being headlined by Broadway favorite, and five-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein? That's enough for me. Fiddler on the Roof, which first premiered on Broadway in 1964, is set to return to the Great White Way later this year in a new production directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, The King and I).
Previews for Fiddler on the Roof are set to begin at the Broadway Theatre on November 12, with opening night scheduled for December 17. Now I first became familiar with this beloved musical when I starred in a local community theatre production of the show. Since that time it has remained a personal favorite of mine.
By the way, for those of you who want tickets to see this beloved musical you are in luck. We sell it. In fact tickets are now on sale. Yes I know the show is still months away, but there is nothing wrong with planning ahead. Get your tickets to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Broadway Theatre. I can't wait to see it. How about you? Until next time theatre fans.

Tony Winners James Earl Jones And Cicely Tyson To Return To Broadway This Fall In A New Revival Of The Gin Game
What's that you say? James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson on stage together at the same time? Count me in. The Gin Game, which first premiered on Broadway in October 1977, is set to return to the Great White Way this Fall at the John Golden Theatre. Which by the way is where the show first opened over thirty-eight years ago. The show, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1978, will begin previews on September 18, with opening night scheduled for October 13.
Written by Donald L. Coburn, and directed by Leonard Foglia, The Gin Game is one play you do not want to miss. Although with a cast like that why would you? I had the pleasure of seeing the last revival in 1997,which starred Charles Durning and Julie Harris. It was fantastic. I have no doubt this new production will be just as good. Fingers crossed. Now for those of you who know nothing about The Gin Game, here is a little synopsis about the show for you to check out. Enjoy!
Weller Martin (James Earl Jones) and Fonsia Dorsey (Cicely Tyson) meet on the porch of their nursing home and strike up a friendship, with Weller teaching Fonsia how to play gin rummy. As they play, they share stories about the lives they led in the outside world. But when Fonsia wins every hand, Weller becomes increasingly frustrated, until their gin games and conversations become a battleground, with each player exposing the other's failures, disappointments and insecurities.
Sounds like fun to me. By the way, for those of you who are interested in getting tickets to see The Gin Game you are in luck. We sell it. In fact we sell every play both On and Off-Broadway. Get your tickets to see The Gin Game on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre. Who knows? I might just see you there. Until next time theatre fans.

My Thoughts On The Ticket Industry
January 1998. That believe it or not, is when I started my first job selling tickets here in New York. Since that time I have worked for several different ticket companies, including the last eleven years at Applause. That is seventeen years in the same industry for those of you keeping count. Now while my position may have changed over the years, I still love talking about theatre and assisting customers with all of their ticket needs. Good thing right? So what does this have to do with today's blog you ask? Well the truth is, that in the last few years or so, I have noticed an increase in new companies selling tickets. Mostly Broadway, but there are a few that are selling local sporting events as well.
Now while Applause offers the same services as those other companies, we are a little different. How so you ask? Well for one we have an office in the heart of Times Square that you can visit. Plus not only do we sell tickets, but we can also give you restaurant suggestions, as well as other things to see and do while you are here. How many other companies do you know that do that? Not too many my friends. Oh and did I mention that most of the shows we sell are available at "Insider Prices." Look we all know that the cost of taking a whole family to a show in New York can be expensive. It's even expensive for just one person.
The good news is there are ways to see theatre affordably. You just have to know where to look. Like I said new ticket companies are popping up every day. In fact just the other afternoon as I was walking thru the Theatre District there was a new one. Now whether you use us or someone else is irrelevant. Oh sure I would be lying if I didn't say I wanted your business. Without our customers we wouldn't be open. However the most important thing to remember is to take your time. Shop around. Then choose the company that works best for you. It's your money after all. Until next time ticket shoppers.

Upcoming Broadway Show Closing Dates
Unfortunately, not all Broadway productions last forever (except you, Phantom of the Opera). Some are limited engagements and have predetermined closing dates. Others don't perform as well as expected and lack the reception (and money) needed to continue to play on the Great White Way. And some may relocate to Off-Broadway theatre. It's hard to keep up with what's playing and what's not playing so we've prepared a list of productions and the dates of their last performances. Those listed will be closing this summer in the next 1-2 months. We'll be sad to see these shows go. But you know the saying: "Once a Broadway show closes, another one opens!" (something like that).
The Visit: Sunday June 14th
Skylight: Sunday June 21st
Gigi: Sunday June 21st
The Audience: Sunday June 28th
Wolf Hall Parts One & Two: Sunday July 5th
Fish in the Dark: Saturday July 18th
On the Twentieth Century: Sunday July 19th
An Act of God: Sunday August 2nd
Mamma Mia: Saturday September 12th
This has been a reminder that you can still get tickets for most of these shows and enjoy them this summer by booking at Applause! Our ticket experts will gladly advise you on when to see a show and where to sit in order to ensure the best experience possible!

Family Shows On Broadway
Planning on coming to New York in the next few months? Well of course you are going to see a show or two while you are here right? The only question you have to ask, is what to see. Now let's also say that you are bringing the whole family. What shows are appropriate? Well to be honest, there aren't as many as you would think. In fact, out of twenty-seven shows currently playing on Broadway, I would say eight of those are ones that the entire family can enjoy. They are Aladdin, Finding Neverland, The King and I, Les Miserables, The Lion King, Matilda,The Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked. Oh and don't forget Off-Broadway shows like The Blue Man Group and Stomp. I guess that's ten shows that are good for all ages. So which ones do you see? Why not see all of them. Just kidding. I mean I love the theatre, but even I couldn't sit thru that many shows in such a small period of time.
Besides you need a little time to shop, and of course see the Statue of Liberty right? Now I'm sure most of you have already seen a lot of these shows. After all, both The Lion King and The Phantom of the Opera have been playing for a number of years. I myself have seen them all. However if I had to choose the perfect one for you to see, I would put Finding Neverland at the top of that list. It has everything. Great story, beautiful music, and a cast that will break your heart, as well as make you smile from ear to ear. How many shows do you know that do that? Not too many my friends. Also most of those shows I mentioned are available at "Insider Prices". Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I sure so. So there you have it folks. Ten great shows that the whole family can enjoy. Which ones will you choose? Until next time theatre fans.

School of Rock: A Way Hardcore Musical
In 2003, radio airwaves were oversaturated with Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, and Nelly. The manufactured, image-obssesed, bubble gum pop and hip hop scene had taken over. As a kid, I really hadn't tailored my music tastes so the products of this millennial pop scene were basically all I listened to. But in the same year, a movie with Jack Black that was released through Nickelodeon and intended to be seen by kids my age was released. This movie was School of Rock and it changed my life forever.
That's not an understatement. After I saw Jack Black and a bunch of kids my age stick it to the man with rock music, I was addicted. I searched all the CD's that were in my house. I came across Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Cream, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. By the time I was a teenager, I had caught up with the rock music of my parent's generation to that of my generation; having gone from blues rock to psychedelic rock and roll to punk rock to grunge up to the alternative bands that I listened to and followed all throughout high school. And it was all thanks to this one special movie that I saw when I was barely even ten years old.
So you can understand my excitement when it was announced that School of Rock would be coming to Broadway. I was even more excited when I was able to see it as its workshop previews were playing downtown at the Gramercy Theatre. Finally, I could experience the story of Dewey Finn recruiting the talents of young, elementary school kids in order to win the Battle of the Bands in a whole new light. And although this was just a workshop production playing in front of about 200 people on a fairly small stage, it was still mammoth in production quality.
With about 30 cast members, 15 of which who are barely ten years old, School of Rock blew the crowd away. Combining a well-crafted story, previously told by Richard Linklater on the big screen, with music by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Weber, School of Rock will rock you to your core while utilizing young talented performers who put Robert Plant, Aretha Franklin, and Janis Joplin to shame. And that's something to appreciate because here we have a show (and movie) that combines two generations: the classic and the contemporary. It shows that a new generation can always appreciate and value what has been passed down onto it: which is why I will always appreciate School of Rock.
The full-on Broadway production will start previews on November 9th and premiere December 6th at the Winter Garden Theatre. And we at Applause will have tickets to this sure-fire hit show. So don't miss out on the head-banging gem that is School of Rock.

Connect With Us On Social Media!
It's no secret that here at Applause, we love talking to you. For nearly three decades, you’ve called us and we’ve called you. We talk about theatre, sports, concerts, what you like, and what we like. And we love it! It's personal, we’ve been doing it forever, and a great conversation has never failed us. Talking to you allows us to gauge what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling about seeing a show. And knowing our customer base is imperative when providing our services. On top of our relationships via telephone and email, we've decided to branch out into social media and connect with you even further with Twitter and LinkedIn.
Now, in the last five years we’ve all seen the growth and efficiency of new mediums like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Companies use them to sell and promote and push their ads in our faces so we see and think about them every day. And while we've been active on Facebook, we've been a bit turned off to other social media networks because of this reason. We’re not trying to sell you or land you. We’re trying to get to know you. Your satisfaction is our success and we tailor our services to you.
But behind all the ads and propaganda that are trying to convince you, there’s a wave of companies using Twitter and Facebook as an extension of the people behind the company. We like to identify with this idea. Because at Applause, we’re more than just the other end of the phone. We’re the people with the same interests as our customers. How did our ticket experts become ticket experts? Well, originally they were just passionate theatre-lovers who loved seeing shows and were captivated by the atmosphere of a theatre; how it can be a portal into a new world where there’s action actually happening before their very eyes. Eventually their passion brought them to work for Applause.
We’re using social media as a way to develop our relationship with you. We’re at the edge of our seats at shows or ball games just like you and we want to share our experiences. Our similar interests are already a connection we have. Now we should make it official. In fact we invite you to connect with us, about Broadway theatre in particular, this weekend as we live tweet the Tony Awards! Like you, we’re excited to see who wins and we’ll be posting our “reactions” as we hope our Tony predictions come true.
There will be .GIFs, lots of .GIFs…

Buying Broadway Tickets On The Web
Raise your hand if you've ever purchased theatre tickets online. Now I'm guessing that most of you have. As a matter of fact, I just purchased ticket's this morning for a show that my friend is starring in downtown. The whole transaction probably took less than three minutes. Of course having been in the ticket business for almost two decades now, it is pretty much second nature to me. But what about those of you out there who are a little hesitant about purchasing tickets on the web? What company do you use? Now I'm not going to sit here and tell you that our company, Applause Theatre Service, is the only game in town. That would be an out and out lie.
The truth is there are hundreds of brokers out there that sell tickets. We just happen to be one of them. However I can tell you, that when it comes to customer service, we are right up there with the best of the best. That is probably why we are still in business twenty-eight years later. Well that and the fact that unlike other so called "Ticket Insiders", we are actually based in New York City. AKA "The Theatre Capitol of the World". That means not only have we seen most, if not all of the shows, but we have been in every theatre. Trust me. That comes in real handy when you want to know where to sit.
This is why using a "Local" ticket agency is to your advantage. Also just so you know, we do more than just sell tickets to the hottest shows in New York. We also offer tickets to all shows in London too. In fact we sell tickets to all events around the world. How many other companies do you know that do that? Not too many my friends. Oh and did I mention that we also offer restaurant suggestions, as well as dozens of things to do and see while you are in New York. And I bet you thought we just sold tickets didn't you? Not even close. Plus we are open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. Or anything else for that matter. Just give us a call, or log on to our website and you can chat with one of us live. So why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did.

Travel Agents And Applause
For the past decade or so, I have had the fortunate pleasure to work at Applause. In that time I have sold tickets to thousands of different people. From regular customers who called us looking for the best deals, to concierges looking to get premium tickets for their guests. We have served them all. However today's blog is to tell you about a very special group. Travel agents. The truth is, we wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the travel agent industry.
It still amazes me that after all these years, I still hear from the same agents over and over again. In fact just the other day, I spoke to an agent who said that she has been using us since we first opened our doors. By the way that was almost twenty-eight years ago. Now that's what I call a loyal customer. Although to be honest, I shouldn't be all that surprised I guess. The truth is when you provide great customer service, people will always come back again and again. By the way, for those travel agents out there that have never used us, I have some great news for you. For every ticket you order for your client's, you will receive a ten dollar commission.
Sounds too good to be true? Well it gets even better. For every ticket you purchase for yourself you will receive a 10% discount. Now while you won't receive a commission on those orders, you actually end up saving more. Just give us a call, and we can sign you up right away. Then just head to our Facebook page, click on "Like", and you will be eligible to win our monthly give away. The prize? An Amex gift card. It just gets better and better. Also don't forget that Applause is open seven days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. So why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did.

Off-Broadway Is Alive And Well In New York City
Coming to New York in the near future and want to see a show? Well of course you do. Now the only question you have to ask yourself is what to see. Oh sure I guess you could see Wicked or The Lion King. Both great shows. But how about checking out something a little off the beaten path?
That's right. I am talking about Off-Broadway. You've heard of that right? Believe it or not, but one of the first successful Off-Broadway shows was the 1954 revival of the Brecht/Weill Threepenny Opera. Since that time Off-Broadway has been home to some of the most innovative, and original productions of all time. Not only that, but some of the Great White Way's most successful productions of the last few decades first premiered on the Off-Broadway stage.
Some of those include A Chorus Line, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, Grey Gardens, In The Heights, Rent, and last year's Tony Award winner for Best Musical Revival of the Year, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. That's a pretty impressive list don't you think? Currently there are over fifty shows playing Off-Broadway. Not only that but we sell tickets to all of these shows.
Want tickets to see such classics like Blue Man Group or Stomp? No problem. How about laugh out loud musical comedies like Avenue Q or Clinton The Musical? You want them. We got them. Plus we offer "Insider Prices" for most of them as well. Who doesn't love a bargain? I know I do. Just give us a call and we will take care of the rest. It's that easy. Applause and Off-Broadway. A winning combination. Until next time theatre fans.

2015 Tony Awards
That's right theatre fans. We are less than six days away from this year's Tony Awards ceremony. Aren't you excited? I know I am. I have been watching the Tony Awards for almost thirty year's now, and every year they are full of surprises. Now while I have not seen every show that is nominated, I have seen most, and I can tell you that it has been an interesting season to say the least.
Leading the pack with twelve nominations this year are An American In Paris and Fun Home. Now I don't own a crystal ball, but it's pretty clear to me that both of those shows are going to be big winners by the time the show ends this Sunday. Other shows predicted to do well this year are The King and I, Something Rotten and this years most celebrated play, The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night Time. All great shows, and all deserving.
However as we all know there can only be one winner. For the past few years I have posted my own predictions on who will win, and who I think should win. Although I usually get a few wrong it's always a lot of fun. Let's see how I do this year. Don't forget to watch this year's Tony Awards live this Sunday on CBS. Oh and just in case you didn't know it is being hosted by Broadway favorites and Tony winners Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth. That alone is reason enough to watch it. Now on to my picks.
