Tony Winners James Earl Jones And Cicely Tyson To Return To Broadway This Fall In A New Revival Of The Gin Game

What's that you say? James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson on stage together at the same time? Count me in. The Gin Game, which first premiered on Broadway in October 1977, is set to return to the Great White Way this Fall at the John Golden Theatre. Which by the way is where the show first opened over thirty-eight years ago. The show, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1978, will begin previews on September 18, with opening night scheduled for October 13.

Written by Donald L. Coburn, and directed by Leonard Foglia, The Gin Game is one play you do not want to miss. Although with a cast like that why would you? I had the pleasure of seeing the last revival in 1997,which starred Charles Durning and Julie Harris. It was fantastic. I have no doubt this new production will be just as good. Fingers crossed. Now for those of you who know nothing about The Gin Game, here is a little synopsis about the show for you to check out. Enjoy!

The Gin Game Tickets - BroadwayWeller Martin (James Earl Jones) and Fonsia Dorsey (Cicely Tyson) meet on the porch of their nursing home and strike up a friendship, with Weller teaching Fonsia how to play gin rummy. As they play, they share stories about the lives they led in the outside world. But when Fonsia wins every hand, Weller becomes increasingly frustrated, until their gin games and conversations become a battleground, with each player exposing the other's failures, disappointments and insecurities.

Sounds like fun to me. By the way, for those of you who are interested in getting tickets to see The Gin Game you are in luck. We sell it. In fact we sell every play both On and Off-Broadway. Get your tickets to see The Gin Game on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre. Who knows? I might just see you there. Until next time theatre fans.
