Bandstand To Play Broadway's Jacobs Theatre- Previews Begin March 31-2017

A new show called Bandstand could very well be one of this season's sleeper type hit shows if it gets positive reviews. And if you have had a chance to see the wonderful choreography work of Andy Blankenbuehler, the 2016 Tony Award winner for choreography in the mega-hit show Hamilton, then you can look forward to seeing his thrilling dance routines in Broadway's new musical called Bandstand.  Mr. Blankenbuehler is also well known for his choreographer work in,  In The Heights, Bring It On, 9 To 5, Cats and several other shows as well. It's a special treat each time he is involved with a Broadway Theatre production.

Bandstand is a new musical that takes us back in time to 1945.  America's sons have just returned from the war.  Bandstand tells us the unique story of a singer, songwriter by the name of Donny Novitski and his group of returning war veterans.  When Donny hears about a national contest to find the country's next musical sensation, Donny and his gang of mismatched bandmates work effortlessly to get themselves into competition shape.  They long for the chance at winning the opportunity of the glamour and glitz that a career in Hollywood could possibly bring to them.  The group teams up with a young, gorgeous war widow at a time when it seems like the world has forgotten them.

Bandstand is a high energy song and dance musical that has incredible musical talent in its cast.  The costumes are terrific as well.

Laura Osnes will star in Bandstand.  Ms. Osnes has numerous acting credits both in the theater, television and on the big screen.  She's a Broadway mainstay and has been seen in Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde, Anything Goes, Grease and others as well.  The Book, Music and Lyrics for Bandstand were written by Richard Oberacker who currently conducts Cirque Du Soleil's hit show "KA" in Las Vegas and he also has worked with the national tours of The Lion King, Show Boat, and several others as well.  His next project could very well be his greatest achievement in the theater as he is writing the score for The Great Gatsby, which will open in Japan this year.  Robert Taylor is credited with handling the Book and Lyrics of Bandstand as well.

Bandstand will begin preview performances on March 31, 2017 prior to opening night critic reviews on April 26, 2017.  This will allow Bandstand to become eligible to be nominated for Tony Awards in 2017.  The show will play at New York's Jacobs Theatre, which will be quite an intimate place seeing as this theater is one of the smaller musical venues in the city.
