What's that you say? A new musical based on a movie? Now to be fair it was a movie musical. An animated one that is of course. Anastasia, which was released to critical acclaim in 1997, begins performances tonight at the Broadhurst Theatre, with opening night scheduled for April 24.
The show, which features a score by Tony winners Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Rocky The Musical), and a book by Tony winner Terrence McNally (Master Class, Kiss Of The Spider Women), is being directed by fellow Tony winner Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder).
So what exactly is the show all about? Well I'll tell you. Set in Paris, during the height of the Russian Empire, this new musical tells the story of Anastasia, the youngest daughter of Czar Nicholas II, whose entire family was executed by the Bolshevik secret police in 1918. However Anastasia's fate remained a mystery for many years, as the location of her burial was unknown during the Communist rule.
Now for those of you who would like tickets to see Anastasia, you have come to the right place. Not only that, but if you call right now you can get tickets to see the show at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that while this "Special Offer" is good thru May 28, it is for select seats only, and as always subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Anastasia on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.
