Applause Turns 50

That's right theatre fans. Applause is celebrating a big birthday. The show, which is based on the Academy Award winning film All About Eve, officially opened on Broadway on March 30, 1970. Starring the legendary Lauren Bacall, who won a Tony Award for her performance, Applause also won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the Year, and played for a total of 896 performances. What's that you say? Oh, you thought I was talking about us didn't you? It makes sense, seeing as that is the name of our company.

Now while we haven't been around for fifty years, we have been selling tickets for quite a long time now. Thirty-three years to be exact. Not only that, but our office is right next door to the Palace Theatre, which is where the show originated. Small world huh? Now the truth is, I haven't been in my office for two weeks now. None of us have. Times Square, and the theatre district as we know it is a ghost town.

I remember walking down Broadway the day after 9/11. I was literally the only person for blocks. It was a scary time back then, and it's a scary time right now. We don't know when this will be over, or when our lives will be back to normal. That's the truth my friends. But we will come back. And when that day comes, we will come together once again, and show the world that New York City is stronger than ever before. Stay safe everyone, and don't forget to look out for each other. Until next time theatre fans.
