Chicago's 1996 Broadway revival holds the record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadway and it has played for 12 years with more than 4,800 performances. The revival was followed by a production on London's West End which is also still running and several tours and international productions.
An Academy Award-winning film version of the musical was released in 2002. Chicago set a record for recovering its initial costs faster than any other musical in history.
Chicago continues to sell out and bring in A list talent to star for limited engagements, such as Usher, Huey Lewis, George Hamilton, John Schneider, Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, Melanie Griffith, Marylou Henner, Brooke Shields and the list goes on and on. It currently stars Pop Diva Mya!
I go back periodically to check out the show to see how it's holding up and I am never disappointed! The Kander and Ebb score (Cabaret, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Curtains, still running) with classic songs such as All That Jazz and the amazing Bob Fosse dancing is Broadway at it's best. A sure bet for a great evening of theatre when choosing a show. So get your tickets now for what is certainly a classic, legendary musical.
