On The Town To Return To Broadway This September

"The Bronx is up and the Battery's down." Sorry. I couldn't resist. On The Town, which was last seen on Broadway over fifteen years ago is set to return to Broadway this fall at the Lyric Theatre. Previews are set to begin on September 20 with opening night scheduled for October 16. The Lyric theatre by the way used to be called the Foxwoods and before that the Hilton and before that the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. That's a lot of changes for a theatre that has only been open for seventeen years. But enough theatre history. You came here to get more info about On The Town so let's get to it shall we?  This new production which will mark the 70th Anniversary of this beloved American musical is being directed by Tony winner John Rando (Urinetown) and choreographed by Joshua Bergasse.(Smash) Now I actually saw the last revival but not on Broadway. It was in Central park in the Summer of 1997 if I recall.

What you say? A musical in the park? I thought they only did Shakespeare during the Summer. Well that's true. Just not this time. Cut to a year or so later and the show opened at the Gershwin Theatre where unfortunately it closed after two months. Now while I enjoyed the show I think moving to a theatre as large as the Gershwin was a bad call. Luckily for them this new production is going into one of Broadway's most intimate theatres. I'm joking of course as the Lyric Theatre is the largest theatre in New York second only to Radio City Music Hall. Oh well. Maybe this production will do better. It can't do any worse right? Tickets for On The Town are now on sale. Not only that but if you call right now you can get tickets to see the show at some amazing prices.
