Dear Applause Ticket News Readers,
The Producers of Matilda the Musical, now playing at the Shubert Theater in New York City have just posted a "closing notice" for this fabulous piece of theater. The show, which opened on Broadway on April 11, 2013 will have played 37 preview performances and 1555 performances when it closes.
Matilda the Musical with music by Tim Minchin and a book by Roald Dahl has been playing in London for several years as well. Matilda tells the story of a young school girl who is despised by her wayward parents as well as her evil school headmistress but with the help of her school teacher, her love of books, intelligence and a super power from within her, Matilda manages to prevail over all the negativity in her life. In time, Matilda and her school teacher manage to turn both of their lives around. It's a very special show indeed.
In 2013 Matilda the Musical won 4 Tony awards plus a special Tony Award for Excellence in the Theater to the 4 youngsters who alternated playing the role of Matilda on Broadway. The role is quite a demanding one for the young ladies for sure.
