2020 Drama Desk Nominations

Now I know what some of you might be thinking. "How can there be nominations if there is no theatre?" Well in some cases, it's true. After all, this year's Tony Awards have been cancelled, along with the Outer Critic's Circle Awards, and the West End's Olivier Awards. But there is some good news to celebrate theatre fans. This years Drama Desk Award nominees.

Celebrating both Broadway and Off-Broadway, the awards which were scheduled for May 31 at Town Hall, will now be held online. Leading the pack with eleven nominations is Soft Power, written by Tony Award winners David Henry Hwang (Madame Butterfly), and Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home), followed by The Wrong Man with nine nominations, and Octet with eight.

Now I'll be honest while looking over the list, I didn't recognize some of the nominees. Don't get me wrong, I love Off-Broadway. It's just that this season, most of the shows that I had seen were on Broadway. Plus Broadway has been hiatus since March 11, with fourteen shows that were unable to open due to the shutdown. Despite that, there were six Broadway shows that were recognized, for a total of twenty-six nominations. Now on to the rest of the nominees.
