Are you Sick and Tired of Overpaying for Broadway Theater Tickets?

I'm amazed that even during a major economic recession that prices for Broadway Shows, Concerts and Sporting Events are climbing higher and higher. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I have read many articles pertaining to ticket prices being overpriced for the New York Yankees, Broadway Shows and most headliner concerts throughout the country. In addition, there is growing controversy around the nation that several NFL football franchises like the New York Jets and New York Giants are making their fans purchase PSL's. PSL's stand for Personal Seat License. Since taxpayers are not paying the bill for the new stadium that the Jets and Giants are going to play in next year, the teams are insisting that their season ticket holders have to pay for the stadium to be built.

For instance, I personally have been on the New York Giants "wait list" to get season tickets for about 15 years now. The team keeps calling me and emailing me offers to purchase a PSL and all the seats that you want to buy, which cost $250.00 per seat, per game. If I were to buy the PSL and only keep my season tickets for 1 year, each seat would cost $7500.00 (for the PSL) and $250.00 for each seat for 10 games. This comes out to $1000.00 a game. That's a little too rich for my blood. I will enjoy watching the Giants play every week on my big flat screen TV at home and save the money for something my family really needs.

Yes I'm sure there are plenty of folks that will cave in and buy the PSL's and accompanying seats but it has irritated thousands of fans that have been football season subscribers for decades now. Many are going to give up the subscriptions in protest before being forced to pay for the new PSL's and higher ticket prices. This doesn't seem fair does it?

I have heard reports that the New York Yankees attendance in 2009 has fallen 13 %. Could it be that people are tired of having to overpay for tickets, especially during uncertain economic times. Sure the new stadium is gorgeous, I've been there 9 times this year. You might ask why I complain then go to see all these ballgames. The answer is a simple one. I know how to shop for the best seats and also search for the best value.

The same goes for Broadway Theater. There are hundreds of web sites that claim to sell tickets to Broadway. How true, but they mostly all look alike. They show the same seats on many of these sites with prices that range from high to outrageous.

If you are sick and tired of getting "ripped off" and could use some expert advice regarding how to shop for the best seats for Broadway or just about any event ticket, my suggestion is to stop clicking on and off different web sites and call a "local expert" in the area your event is taking place. For instance, my company is called Applause Theater Service, located at 311 West 42rd Street, suite 601, New York, New York 10036.

Our area of expertise is Broadway Theater tickets and sporting and concert tickets in the New York tri-state area. Although we have access to events all over the country, we seek out advice from other local ticket experts, gather information for you then try to acquire seats for you. Or just make suggestions for you.

So for everyone who is sick and tired of paying too much for Broadway, Concert and Sporting Event tickets, may I suggest you place a call to Applause today. Applause has a down to earth group of real people you can trust. And it won't cost you an arm and a leg either.

Applause can be reached locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-51-9930, seven days a week. I hope this information was helpful to you.

Hair Comes Alive

Hippies and 60's fans rejoice. Hair is back on Broadway and better than ever. I can't tell you how much I loved this production. Going in I knew a few of the songs but that was it. Everybody I know had been raving about it for so long I figured it was time to see what the fuss was all about. From the opening number I was literally transported back to the 1960's. Every actor from the ensemble to the leads were dead on. I can't imagine anyone not loving this show.

Now for those of you who may be turned off by the nudity, don't be. It is very brief. If you are looking for an amazing and uplifting show then Hair is the one to see. By the way after the show is over the cast invites everyone in the audience to come up on stage and join in the celebration. Bet you can't say that about any other Broadway show can you? Get your tickets to see Hair on Broadway. It is outstanding.

The Lion King Celebrates Milestone

Next week The Lion King will celebrate 5000 performances on Broadway. The show which first premiered on Broadway in November 1997 is still one of Broadway's top selling shows and should continue to be for a very long time. Now I personally have never seen the show. Those of you who read my blogs know I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. However you can't deny it's popularity. I can't tell you how many people call everyday asking for tickets to this show. You would think after twelve years it would slow down but as I said it is still one of the most popular shows on the Great White Way. Not only that but it is the perfect show for young and old alike. Call Applause now to get your tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway. It is an experience that you will never forget.

The show which first premiered in London and opened to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike will celebrate it's first year on Broadway next month. Now while I haven't see the show there is no denying it's appeal to people from all walks of life. I expect Billy Elliot to be around for a very long time. Now while the show is popular there are still good seats available for most performances. All you have to do is give us the date and the number of seats and we will do the rest. It's that easy. Broadway's Longest Running Show Is Still The Phantom of the Opera

Has it really been twenty-two years since The Phantom of the Opera first opened on Broadway? Boy time sure does fly doesn't it? The show which believe it or not is still a big seller continues to charm audiences eight times a week at Broadway's Majestic Theatre. Growing up in a small town in Illinois I wasn't exposed to a lot of theatre except the shows I did in high school or the local community theatre. Then one day our choir director brought in a copy of the soundtrack and I fell in love with the score. Just a few months later it was announced that Phantom was coming to Chicago and I would finally get the chance to see a live production of the show. Well wouldn't you know it but Illinois was hit with one of the biggest snowstorms in years and I couldn't go. I guess I was destined never to see it. Cut to two years later and I moved to New York to study acting and my school gave all the students tickets to see the show. Finally after all these years I was going to see the show that I had been listening too non-stop. The big question is whether or not it would live up to all my expectations. I am happy to report that it did. What a great show. Yes I know some people find the show a bit sappy and over dramatic at times but I really enjoyed it. If you go in knowing what to expect than you will have a great time. I sure did, and I know millions of other people did as well. A show doesn't last all those years for nothing you know.

Christmas Is Just Around The Corner

I can't believe Christmas is almost here. That's right folks. In less than two months it will be time to unwrap the presents and celebrate the holiday's with the family. Not only that but in just a few weeks one of New York City's favorite holiday traditions is about to begin. I am of course talking about the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The show which is now in it's 77th year is always a crowd pleaser. You know in all the years that I have lived here I have never seen it. Not that it doesn't sound like fun. I've just never had anyone special in my life that I could take. Oh well. I'm still a young guy. Besides the show isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Good seats are still available for most days so don't delay. Call Applause now to get your tickets to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. You will have the time of your life.

Rock Out! Get Your Tickets To See Rock of Ages On broadway

I'll be the first to admit that when they announced they were doing a musical featuring some of the greatest songs of the 1980's I was a little skeptical. Truth be told jukebox musicals aren't really my thing. Therefore there was no reason to believe that Rock of Ages was going to change that. Well you know what? I loved it. In fact I've seen it three times and each time was better than the first. If you are looking for a great night out then this is the show for you. Get your tickets to see Rock of Ages on Broadway. IT ROCKS!!!!!

Customer Story

That's right folk's. It's Monday morning and you know what that means. It's time for the customer story of the week. Last week I got a call from a mother of two who was coming with her family to New York for the weekend and wondered if she could get some last minute tickets to a couple of shows. I asked her if there were any she had in mind and she told me that she wanted something fun that the whole family could enjoy. Since she had kids I suggested Shrek or one of the Disney shows. While she appreciated the suggestion she felt that her kids were too old for that. She mentioned that a friend of hers had seen Blue Man Group and thought that her family would enjoy that. I told her that I could get her great seats to the show and asked if she had another show in mind as well. Since she hadn't seen a lot of shows she asked what my favorite was. Well those who read my blogs know my favorite show is In The Heights. I told her about it and she thought it sounded great. Not only that but I was able to get her and insider deal as well. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

South Pacific Still Going Strong

Winner of 7 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival is South Pacific. This new revival which marks it's first time on Broadway since the original 1949 production continues to enchant audiences of all ages eight times a week at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. It amazes me that it took so many years for the show to come back to Broadway. I guess they were just waiting for the right team to put it together.

Boy did they get it right. What an amazing production of this Broadway classic. From the outstanding cast to one of the most visually stunning sets I have ever seen this revival of South Pacific is a must see. Get your tickets today. Shows like these don't come around too often.

Now Is The Best Time To See Jersey Boys On Broadway

Now in it's 4th record breaking year on Broadway is Jersey Boys. The show which tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is still one of Broadways biggest hits. When it was first announced I really didn't expect it to be a big a hit as it has become. To be honest jukebox musicals aren't really my cup of tea. I've never seen Mamma Mia. I probably never will. Imagine my surprise when not only did I love Jersey Boys but it is one of my favorite Broadway shows of all time.Who would have thought that? I sure didn't. I guess the old saying is true."You can't judge a book by it's cover." Now if you haven't seen Jersey Boys yet I strongly suggest you do. By the way you don't have to be a fan of their music to appreciate the show. Sure it helps but it's not necessary. Wicked To Celebrate Six Years On The Great White Way

On October 30th Wicked will mark it's sixth year on Broadway. The show which continues to sell out nightly is still Broadway's most popular show not to mention the highest grossing show week after week. Most people forget that the show didn't get very good reviews when it opened. Yet here we are all these years later and Wicked shows no end in sight. Even though I enjoyed it when I saw it I never expected it would become the worldwide sensation that it is today. Never underestimate the theatre going public. They are the ones who control the success or failure of a show. Not the critics. Until next time theatre fans.

Shrek To Close?

As an avid reader of the NY Post I wanted to share a bit of news that was in today's paper. Those of you in the know have certainly heard of Michael Riedel and are aware of his reputation in the industry. Unlike a lot of people I know I enjoy his column. Most forget that he is paid by the NY Post to report the news. Not a review. That is what he does and has been doing for many years now. Anyway this blog is not about Michael Reidel but about what he posted in today's column. Now let's be honest. Everybody knows that while Shrek is popular it is not Wicked or dare I say The Lion King. I personally enjoyed the show and hope it has a long run. However if reports are true then Shrek may not survive too much longer. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. All you have to do is a take a look at the weekly grosses. The figures don't lie.

Now while I think a show like Shrek is a far better show than The Lion King the cold hard facts are that nobody is going. That is a shame because Shrek has more heart than most of the shows on Broadway. Now I could go on and on and tell you how great Shrek is and that you have to see it. I am a ticket broker after all. That's what I do. Sell tickets. But you can ask anybody that I work with or anybody that I sell tickets too. I am not going to push a show that I don't think you will like. I won't do it. Shrek may not be here forever but I can do my best to make sure it stays around a little longer. The rest is up to to you. Until next time theatre fans.

My Love For In The Heights

The people in my office like to give me a hard time about my obsession with In The Heights. Now I think obsession is a strong word. Yes I admit I love the show and listen to the show two or three times a week but I am not obsessed. Truth is I haven't seen the show in a long time. Not that I haven't tried but when you work as much as me it's hard to find the time. Plus I think it's more important to have a roof over your head than see a show every week like some people do. Now I don't mean to knock those people.Look if you can afford to see the same show week after week than more power to you. I just don't have that kind of money. I use whatever money I have left over every month to pursue my own show. I think that is why I love In The Heights so much. It is about people with a dream. People who no matter what the odds do not give up until they achieve those dreams. That is what Broadway does. Makes you believe that anything and everything is possible. That is In The Heights. Go see it. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Ticket Prices Don't Need to Cost a Fortune

It's about time that average theatergoers can get to see Broadway Shows for much less than they really think they have to pay. And how confusing is it to the public to have hundreds of web sites, most of which tend to look alike with similar seat locations being offered as well as "outrageous" pricing that goes with this shopping experience? To me it looks like ticket companies are hoping unsuspecting consumers will click on a set of tickets, put their credit card information in the sales form then have a high service charge added to their shopping cart order just before they submit their order. Consumers often end up paying much more than they thought they would.

Now I have nothing against ticket companies trying to make simple electronic sales. My problem is often that the seat locations they display are often "fictitious". Even worse, you generally have to pay full retail face value of a ticket plus a hefty service charge. Often customers of our company Applause, tell us that when they have shopped elsewhere prior to calling us, they are confused as to whether the seats are worth the price of admission.

Running my own legitimate ticket agency, selling Broadway Shows as a specialty, one of the most notable areas which we differentiate our ticket service is to "avoid selling". At Applause Theater Service (NY State license #71AP1001029), we offer a real service. One that offers alternatives to paying more than you need to. For instance, you might have a look at our web site, click on a show tile or two, get a feel for our company and what we have to offer. Then we often make the suggestion to call us.

This is the one thing you'll notice more than anything. Our emphasis on asking you to call us. Talk to us. You know, like people used to do before Blackberry's and texting took over for many of our daily conversations. Ticket companies are hoping you click and book. It's less work for them. My problem with this is that so many companies today are even making it hard to find their phone number. How horrible is that

If ticket shoppers simply "click and book", how can they ever know if there are any better seats at less expensive prices? Today more than ever, when you go shopping in your local mall or simply window shop in your local shopping center, you'll often see large FOR SALE SIGNS posted in the merchants windows, like 50% OFF or UP TO 80% OFF. So how can you get a ticket service to offer their "sale price" if you just click and book?

From an insider's perspective, Broadway Theater has become an overpriced experience in many instances. If you want to pay full retail admission prices, you might be missing out on Below Face Value discounted options that a company like Applause Theater Service offers. It's simple really. Shows that might not be selling out of all their tickets are willing to discount the tickets if you are willing to attend an off-peak performance. Generally the BFV ticket deals are not available on a Saturday night.

So why not spend a few minutes and make that call to Applause or another company that might know about these "insider prices". Spending just 5 minutes or so will save you lots of money. And today, who cannot use some extra savings when they go out for an expensive evening like Broadway Theatre?

Broadway Theatre doesn't have to cost a fortune after all, does it? I hope this information helps you or anyone you know that attends live Broadway Theatre.

If you want to talk about tickets for Broadway Shows, it would be my pleasure to assist you. All you have to do is call me at 212-307-7050 in New York or toll free at 800-451-9930. Whether you ask for the Below Face Value ticket deals or not, I'll give you the best options so that you can make an informed decision. Aks for my personally. My name is Rich Gladstone. Some people call me The Ticket Man.

Disney On Broadway

If you would have told me fifteen years ago that Disney would be a major force on Broadway I would have told you that you were crazy. Yet here we are in 2009 and The Lion King and Mary Poppins continue to be two of the biggest sellers on Broadway. Now for those of you who read my blogs know I'm not the biggest Disney fan in the world. That doesn't mean they don't have a place on Broadway. If it wasn't for them most children would never get the chance to experience a Broadway show. For that they should be commended. Since 1994 Disney has produced six shows on the Great White Way. Some like Beauty and the Beast and Aida were very successful. Others like Tarzan and The Little Mermaid were not. Either way Disney is here to stay folks. Now whether or not they will have as big a hit as The Lion King again is another question. Until next time theatre fans.

Fela! Begins Previews Tonight

Following a sold out run Off-Broadway in 2008, Fela! will begin previews tonight at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on Broadway. This new musical tells the true story of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The show which is being directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones(Spring Awakening)is set to open on November 23. While reviews were strong when it played last year it did not move due to a lack of appropriate theatres that could house this very large show. Will it succeed on Broadway? We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

That's right folks. It's time for my customer story of the day. Like last week's story this also involves my first call of the day. It was from a very nice gentleman who was planning a trip for him and his wife to come into the city in December to do some shopping and see a show. He asked me if I had seen Jersey Boys and I told him that not only is it one of my favorites but continues to be one of Broadway's top selling musicals. I asked when he wanted to go and he told me that he really only had one day available. I told him that I had two options for him and his wife.I could get him Premium seats in the first ten rows for $425 each or I could get him seats in the Rear Mezzanine for $130 each.

Now I know when most people hear the words "Rear Mezzanine" their first thought is, "I am not sitting in the nose bleed section." Now while the seats I offered him were near the back they are actually a full view. Believe it or not but the theatre is not very big. Only 1200 seats. When you compare that to other theatres it is very small. I put him further at ease by telling him that when I saw the show two years ago I was in the last row on the side and saw fine. Plus he would be three rows closer than where I sat. Needless to say he felt better about the seats and decided to purchase them. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Memphis To Open Tonight

Memphis, the 1950's rock n' roll musical is set to open tonight at Broadway's Shubert Theatre. The show which first premiered earlier this year at the La Jolla Playhouse has received strong word of mouth and is selling very well as of late. Several of my co-workers saw the show last week and absolutely loved it. It seems to be a real crowd pleaser. Will the critics feel the same way? We will find out tomorrow. Until next time theatre fans.

Need Last Minute Tickets to Broadway?

Let Applause Theater Service explain how they work their "magic" to get theater-goers into a Broadway show, even up to the last minute.

We just got a call from a customer named Sara. Although she previously purchased tickets for Mamma Mia! for tonight's show in New York City, she needed 3 additional seats for tonight at the Winter Garden Theater. Although the show is sold out, a simple call over to the theater made by Applause, resulted in finding Sara the 3 tickets she coveted.

One might ask "how did you get the tickets? Long story short, people sometimes get stuck with tickets and ask the theater to sell them. The theater also holds back some house seats for VIP's that might want to see the show at the last minute.

In Sara's case, I simply asked her if she would accept 3 single seats, meaning that the seats weren't together. When I mentioned that the seats were all in good seating locations, Sara said "please book them for me".

Little things like asking a customer if they'll accept separate single seats when a show is sold out are important. Sure I made a sale tonight but more importantly, my guess is that if Sara asked any other ticket service what they could do to get them into the show, the answer would probably be "sorry but the performance is sold out". So yes, I'm happy we sold 3 more tickets but at the end of the day, Sara is happy.

Without happy customers, where would we be? Who would need us? Why would our telephone ring?

If you ever want to experience excellent customer service and need tickets for Broadway Theater or other reserved seating events, we'd love to be of service. Applause Theater Service in New York City (license #71AP1001029) has a staff that cares about its customers.

We can prove it to you too. Just call 212-307-7050 in New York City or toll free at 800-451-9930 if you feel like talking about Broadway Theater. Good luck.

Sincerely,

Applause Customers Make My Day

Broadway ticket buyers spend allot of money to attend New York Theater. Why should they pay more than they have to?

I just wanted to share a moment with Applause Ticket News readers about a new customer we made today. Her name is Patricia and she's from Aurora, Colorado. A friend of Patricia's suggested she call Applause for 1 ticket to South Pacific for the last Sunday in October 2009. After speaking with her friend, and feeling comfortable talking with me, he then asked Patricia to give me a call in New York.

Seeing as how Patricia hardly ever gets a chance to visit New York City, and being on a budget, she decided to buy a ticket in the Loge section of South Pacific (somewhat more reasonably priced than an orchestra seat). I suggested the seat in the Loge as the theater is a small one and all the seats are pretty good, especially for the price I gave her. She said "Rich thanks for the great service and with the money you've saved me, I am planning on going to a very nice restaurant for dinner".

We then got to talking. It is amazing and interesting what we all can learn about each other if we just take that extra moment or two. People are really nice when you get to talk with them. Patricia is extremely warm and friendly and will be very pleased when she takes her seat at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York's Lincoln Center.

There's a special satisfaction when I make a ticket sale. But it's extra special knowing a customer is very happy with our service. So happy that someone like Patricia said "Rich, I plan on telling lots of people about you and your service".

Although I personally think it's important to give excellent customer service, somehow it is uniquely gratifying when a customer stops and tells you they appreciate the service you've given. So yes, customers really can "make your day" a special one. Patricia did so for me today. I wonder who it will be tomorrow.

To experience superb service and the best seats and prices for Broadway Shows, we hope you'll give us a call. Maybe we can "make your day" a special one too.

Now Is The Best Time To See Shrek The Musical

Still haven't seen Shrek yet? Well what are you waiting for people? I'll be the first to admit that I was not exactly looking forward to the show when it was announced a couple of years back. I mean did we really need another animated movie turned Broadway musical? Well evidently we did. And you know what? It's actually pretty good. I went in kicking and screaming and came out loving it. Not only did it exceed all my explanations but if I had to pick one show that is good for all ages then this the one to see. It's got a great cast. Catchy tunes. Plus a story that will warm your heart and make you smile from ear to ear. Sounds like a winner me. Call now to get your tickets to see Shrek The Musical on Broadway. You won't regret it.

Customer Story

My first call of the day was from a lovely young lady from Pennsylvania who was planning on bringing her family into the city for the holidays and wanted to see a show. Surprisingly even though she lived only a few hours away she'd never been to New York City. I asked her what she wanted to see and she said her daughter has been begging her for the last few years to see Wicked. Although I could tell she wasn't too excited she didn't want to let her daughter down. She mentioned that she was on a budget and asked what I could for her. I told her that if she was willing to split up I could not only get her a good price but could guarantee that she would have a great view. She loved that. She purchased the seats and thanked me for steering her in the right direction. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Ticket Brokers- how can you tell us apart?

I sell theater tickets for a living, providing excellent service to every caller to our company Applause Theater Service. Sounds kind of corny right? Let me explain please.

Just yesterday when speaking with two different callers about possibly buying tickets for Jersey Boys and Wicked in New York City, each of these customers were kind enough to notice that I spent allot of time trying to help them. Each in their own unique way conveyed that they had been searching for theater tickets on many web sites that "all seem to display lots of tickets that appear to have the same or similar seat locations". When I explained that ticket sellers often "share" inventory with others in the business, they understood. But still, the one objection they voiced was that when they placed phone calls to the ticket companies, they were "rushed and quoted very high prices" for the tickets they wanted. Just because web sites display ticket inventory, doesn't mean they know the first thing about Broadway or tickets right?

I often explain to ticket shoppers that tickets aren't as hard to come by as you'd expect really. Many ticket brokers simply hope you go to their web site, click on a set of tickets and give them your credit card. They prefer an "electronic" transaction instead of a human interaction.

So after 32 years in the Broadway ticket business, at the risk of sounding "corny", I really think that these folks were simply talking about something that is so badly lacking in these modern times.
S-E-R-V-I-C-E

If you ever need tickets to a Broadway Show or simply have a question about Broadway Theater, I hope you'll call my company Applause sometime. At the risk of sounding like we think we have the "best" service, there is only one way to tell. So if you find yourself in a similar situation and don't know where to turn or how to secure tickets at reasonable prices for all the Broadway Shows, we hope you'll contact Applause.

We use the tag line "Applause, The Broadway Ticket Experts". Call and find out why if you get a chance.

Enjoy Broadway Theater, there's nothing like it.

Customer Story

Now I know what you're thinking. Didn't he just post his weekly customer story yesterday? Yes I did. However I have decided to change my weekly customer story to a daily one. At least for now anyway. I mean out of all the customers that I talk to on a daily basis there has to be a least one interesting story right? So here we go.

I arrived this morning at my usual time of 10:00am ready to start my day. Like most days it is busy in the morning and then slows down a little until the afternoon. I received a call from a customer who was looking to come into the city this weekend and wanted to take his wife to a Broadway show. His first and only choice was The Phantom of the Opera. Now believe it or not while Phantom has been around for over twenty-two years the show still sells out. Especially on Saturday nights.

So I checked for him and they had seats in the Orchestra but they were on the side in the back. I told him that if he sat upstairs he not only would probably get better seats but have a better view as he would be looking straight down on top of the stage. Although he had never sat upstairs before he trusted that I knew what I was talking about and decided to order the tickets for him and his wife. I told him I wouldn't let him down and thanked him for his business. By the way I got him great seats on the center aisle. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Memphis a Must See on Broadway

This past week My family and I had the pleasure of seeing the new Musical Memphis at the Shubert Theatre. Well what more can I say except that is sent shivers up my spine. I absolutely loved it!!!!! Memphis tells the story of a young, white radio DJ named Huey Calhoun (Chad Kimball), whose love of music transcends race lines and airwaves. She's a black singer named Felicia Farrell (Montego Glover), whose career is on the rise, but who can't break out of segregated clubs. When the two get together her soulful music reaches radio audiences everywhere, and the Golden Era of early rock 'n' roll takes flight. But as things start to heat up, whether the world is really ready for their music - or their love - is put to the test. Memphis features an original story by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) and a brand-new score with music by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan. Directing is Tony® nominee Christopher Ashley (Xanadu) and choreography is by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys). A Show filled with heart , soul and lots of energy and definitely not to be missed. For the best seats at the best prices call Applause!!!!!!!

Kelli O'Hara Returns To South Pacific

That's right theatre fans. Three-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara will make her triumphant return tonight as Nellie Forbush in Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific. The actress who departed the show this past March due to her pregnancy gave birth to her first child Owen James on June 27. The show which received seven 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival continues to delight audiences eight times a week at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. I had the opportunity to see the show prior to it's opening last year and thought it was not only one of the most visually stunning productions that I have ever seen but also one of the most moving as well. I highly recommend you see this amazing production if you get the chance. Shows like these don't come around every day you know. Get your tickets now to see South Pacific on Broadway. It is a classic.

Jersey Boys-An Inspiration

When Jersey Boys was first announced over four years ago I wasn't too excited. I mean the last thing we needed was another jukebox musical on Broadway right? Sure Mamma Mia is a hit but that is the exception. Since then over a half a dozen have come and gone so there was no guarantee that Jersey Boys would do any better. No matter how good the music was. Well the rest is history. Not only did the show exceed everyone's expectations but it won the Tony Award for Best Musical and continues to break box office records on Broadway, London, and every venue in between. Jersey Boys is a hit with no end in sight.

By the way. I loved the show. Not only was the music even better than I could have ever imagined but the story was fascinating and inspirational at the same time. Being a writer myself I often wonder how much longer am I going to have to struggle to achieve my dreams. Haven't I paid my dues already? Compared to the things that these four guys from New Jersey had to go thru to make it I haven't even scratched the surface. I guess I have a little more ways to go. Either way if I can achieve even half of their success I will consider myself lucky. Now enough about me. See the show. You will have the best time.I guarantee it.

Broadway Rocks Out-Rock of Ages Is A Hit

Never in my wildest dreams did I think a show featuring some of my favorite songs from the 80's would turn out to be one of this years biggest success stories. Since it opened to rave reviews this past Spring Rock of Ages has been selling at almost full capacity every week. Not bad for a show that most people thought would never make it on the Great White Way. Myself included. Now while I loved the show when I first saw it Off-Broadway I wasn't sure if Broadway audiences would go for it. Well they have. Not only that but the show is attracting people that might have never gone to a Broadway show in the first place. Never underestimate the power that great music has over people. "If you sing it. They will come" Get your tickets to see Rock of Ages on Broadway. You will have the time of your life.

Customer Story

Today is Columbus Day. Walking into work today I assumed it was going to be slow. Boy was I wrong. The phones started ringing first thing and hasn't stopped. Anyway the reason for my blog is to tell you about a customer that called me today. It was one of the first calls of the day and it was from a woman and her friend in New Jersey who wanted to come into the city with their husbands to see the Jersey Boys. Of course they wanted to sit right up front and hopefully within the next couple of months. They told me the dates that they were available and while we had seats they weren't as close as they hoped they would be. Did I mention she also picked the busiest weekend in New York City? So anyway I kept looking and told her that I could get her seats in the Orchestra right up front........for $425 each. Total silence. Well after her friend picked her up off the floor. I'm kidding. Just wanted to see if you were paying attention. Anyway I started to tell her that when I saw the show a couple of years ago I sat upstairs in the last row on the side and had a perfect view. I then found her seats in that section. A little closer than I was I might add. Not only that but I got her all four seats together and on the Center aisle. Suffice to say she was very happy. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

In the Heights Tour 2009 : Brought to you by a rapping Lin-Manuel

Any fans of In the Heights are familiar with its funny and energetic writer, musical composer, and former leading-man: Lin-Manuel Miranda. The young star has proved himself to be a very creative and inspired character on Broadway. Lin-Manuel wrote the first version of In the Heights back in 2000, and it took almost seven years before the show had its first run Off-Broadway. Just over a year later, the show moved to Broadway and received 13 Tony Award nominations of which it won four.

The score Lin-Manuel wrote for In The Heights received awards for Best Score and Best Orchestration. In addition, the Original Cast Album for the show reached number 82 on the Billboards Top 200 Chart. But Lin-Manuel’s musical aspirations proved to reach beyond his Broadway show. Back at Wesleyan University, Lin-Manuel had joined the rap group Freestyle Love Supreme. Since then, the troupe has performed all across the world. Their show is based on a simple idea – getting words from the audience and using them in freestyle rap songs. And now, to promote the 2009 Tour for In the Heights, Lin-Manuel and his group created this video. The video is based off of the Jay-Z song "Run This Town," which sits at number 3 on the Billboard hot 100.

Lin-Manuel also displayed his rap skills in a NSFW guest spot in a skit for CollegeHumor’s Hardly Working series. We wish Lin all the best with the In the Heights Tour and with his hip-hop group.

Disney's The Lion King-The Perfect Family Show

Now in it's 12th year on Broadway is Disney's The Lion King. Those of you who read my blogs know that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. In fact I've never even seen the show and to be honest I probably never will. Free ticket or not. Now having said that I do recommend the show. It is great for kids. Heck it's great for the whole family. The show which opened in December 1997 continues to sell out almost nightly at the Minskoff Theatre and by all estimations should be around for a very long time. Look I may not like it but a show doesn't run for twelve years on Broadway without doing something right. The Lion King is here to stay.Until next time theater fans.

Hair-Back On Broadway Where It Belongs

When I first heard that they were mounting a revival of Hair I can't say that I was overly excited. Sure I knew some of the songs going into it but truth be told I was more excited about the revival of West Side Story.Well cut to a few months later and who wins the Tony Award for Best Revival? You've got it. Hair. Not only that but I really didn't care for West Side Story. That is except for Karen Olivo who won a much deserved Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Anyway back to Hair. As I had said I knew a few of the songs but other than that I had never seen a live production or the 1979 movie. I was six when it came out so it wasn't like my mother was going to take me to see it. Besides I was into Star Wars back then. Not movie musicals.

So there I am sitting in my seat at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre waiting for the show to begin not really knowing what to expect or to even like it for that matter. Within a few minutes I was hooked. What an amazing show from start to finish. This is a show that has heart and makes you think. I love shows like that. Hair is a show that deserves and should be seen by anyone that cares about the future of American musical theatre. It is a part of theatre history and I hope that it will be around for a very long time. Go see it.

Chicago The Musical-13 Years and Counting

I'll be the first to admit that when Chicago first opened in the fall of 1996 did I ever think I would still be talking about it all these years later. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the show when I saw it. I just never though that a show with no sets or lavish costumes would ever survive. Since the British invasion of musicals in the 1980's audiences have become accustomed to over the top theatrics and enormous sets.Yet here we are in 2009 and a little show like Chicago has outlasted them all. All except The Phantom of the Opera that is. I have to say that I loved the show when I saw it back in 1997. They weren't trying to re-invent the wheel. They were there to tell a story while at the same time entertain you. That is something that is very rare these days. Other shows should take notice. You don't have to spend millions of dollars to make a show great. All you need is a few musicians. A talented cast. And last but not least a little razzle dazzle. Yes I know I stole that last line from the show but it's true. Until next time.

In The Heights-Where Dreams Are Made

For those of you who read my blogs know how much I love to write about In The Heights.Out of all the shows on Broadway it is far and away my favorite one. Is it my favorite one of all time? While it is in my top ten the coveted number one spot is reserved for Rent. Perhaps you've heard of it? You know that little show that ran for twelve years and won every major award imaginable including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. To this day it is still one of the greatest experiences that I have ever had in the theatre.

Cut to twelve years later and another show fresh off a very successful Off-Broadway run moves to Broadway and captures the hearts of theatregoers from around the world. Now I know there are some people out there that think that you can't relate to the show if you are not Spanish. That is not true. Yes In The Heights takes place in a neighborhood made up of mostly Dominican and Puerto Rican people but that is not what the show is all about. It is about people with dreams. It is about a community that comes together in good times and in bad. And it is about finding out who you are. Sounds like something we can all relate too right?

Look I can go on and on and tell you how great I think the show is and how it affected me. Doesn't mean it is going to do the same for you. Whether you decide to see the show is up to you now. I can only hope that I helped you understand a little more about the show than you did before. Until next time theatre fans.

If You Love Music, Rock of Ages Aims To Please

I had a chance to see Rock of Ages when it played Off Broadway last year. Although I was surprised that the producers of the show moved it to a Broadway theater, the show is gaining great feedback and is succeeding quite well since its move.

Rock of Ages takes place in in the 1980's at the end of the rock and roll "long hair" era in Hollywood. The show mostly takes place at a famous Sunset Strip music venue where "music groupies" anxiously await their turn to hopefully take their fantasies and turn them into realities. From the young music artist that hopes to become the next big rock star hoping to fall in love with a small-town girl to the land developers that show up in town wanting to turn the legendary music club into a local shopping mall, this show has lots of fun to make all theater-goers happy. Whether you are a youngster or someone like me who just started playing guitar in my 50's, I can guarantee you a terrific experience at Rock of Ages. And great fun as well.

The music for Rock of Ages is some of the greatest rock n' roll you'll ever hear. Famous songs by hit bands during this time period are from Bon Jovi, Journey, Whitesnake, Styx, Twisted Sister, Asia, Pat Benetar, Poison, Night Ranger and Foreigner. It's kind of nice to attend a Broadway show and be able to sing along with most of the songs that many of us have heard often during our lives.

Rock of Ages plays every day but Wednesday (something which is unique for Broadway), with 2 shows on Saturdays and Sundays. Sienna Miller stars on Broadway in After Miss Julie

I am pleased to tell Broadway theater fans all over that one of my favorite actresses, Miss Sienna Miller will play the role of Julie in a premiere production of After Miss Julie. In previews right now, After Miss Julie will have their official opening night at the American Airlines Theater located at 227 West 42nd Street between Broadway and 8th Avenues on October 22, 2009.

After Miss Julie is a play written by Patrick Marber. This play was originally written as a play by August Strindberg so technically, although it is not a "new" play, it still could be considered in the running for a Best New Play Tony Award in the Spring of 2020.

After Miss Julie's story is a new interpretation from the original 1888 play which deals with sex and class in the English countryside in 1945. Although young Miss Julie is being held at her grandmother's house on the evening of the Labour Party's incredible victory, she gets involved in forbidden activity that manages to get out of control affecting a fight for power at the time.

After Miss Julie plays every day except Mondays. Sienna Miller is joined on stage by theater veterans Jonny Lee Miller (John) and Marin Ireland (in the role of Christine).

If you think After Miss Julie is a show you might want to see, you can check out Applause Theater Service's below face value page for information on how we can help you secure excellent seats for this great show. I guarantee that the seats we offer and prices are the best you might find from any ticket seller. Not to mention the excellent customer service you will experience. Right now After Miss Julie has discount tickets through October 22, 2009. After this date, you can check with us anyway as we expect the show to extend these "special prices" to Applause and its customers.

We hope this information was helpful to you, your friends or family members that might enjoy the Broadway Theater.

Good luck.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Mamet's Oleanna Opens on Broadway October 11, 2009

Julia Stiles, the star of several big screen films over the years, will play opposite Bill Pullman, another star of the big screen in playwright David Mamet's "Oleanna" on Broadway. The two stars play opposite one another in this two-character play that tells the story of a female college student who is doing poorly in her "forty something" professor's class. Apparently the "war of words" that takes place between the two has a deep impact on their campus and soon a "power struggle" breaks out.

I've been a big fan of Julia Stiles and Bill Pullman's throughout their exciting careers and am looking forward to seeing a performance of Oleanna in the coming weeks. The show will play Broadway's small and intimate John Golden Theater on west 45th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenues.

In addition, this new production of Oleanna has intense dialogue and riveting emotion that recently had audiences in Los Angeles raving about it. I have been reading lots of things people that have seen the show have said about Oleanna. Apparently after seeing the show, much debate often breaks out, forcing you to take a side with one or the other characters.

Oleanna is directed by Doug Hughes. Mr. Hughes has directed many Off Broadway shows as well as Broadway's Mauritius, Doubt, A Man for all Seasons, Inherit the Wind and several others. He has been the recipient of a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and many other special industry awards for his work.

Being an insider in the ticket business, my company Applause, can offer you tickets at below face value prices for most performances. What this means is that we can secure amazing seats at prices that are below cost. You can check out our Oleanna show page if you want to learn more about Oleanna or click on our below face value page to learn about all the great Broadway ticket offers from our company.

There are many places to shop for Broadway theater tickets on the Internet. Do yourself a favor though. Do your research then consider contacting Applause. I personally guarantee you'll be glad you did.

Good luck. Let me know if I can help you.

Applause and Customer Service

In the five plus years that I have worked for Applause I have sold tickets to all types of people. Travel agents,Concierges,Consumers, and normal people who just walked off the street. Prior to working here I had worked for another New York ticket broker as well. Now don't get me wrong. It was a good company to work for while I was there. I just feel that the level of customer service wasn't a strong as it could and should have been. Is Applause the only company you should buy tickets from?

Now most people would say,"Yes." Everybody knows that competition is a good thing. Without it where would we be? Without Coke would Pepsi be near as successful? Where would McDonald's be without Wendy's or Burger King? Without competition it might be easy to rest on your laurels and just keep doing the same old same old. Day in and day out. Luckily that will never happen.

Every day when I come to work I get the chance to talk about something that I love more than anything else. Live theatre. If I didn't I probably wouldn't be able to talk so passionately about it. That's what we do. When people ask me what I do I suppose the easy answer would be, "I sell tickets." Big deal. So do hundreds of other companies. What we do is provide a service. A service that I think is one of the best in the industry. Don't believe me? Why not give us a call. You'll be glad you did.

Customer Story

That's right all you Applause blog fans. It's time for my customer story of the week. On Sunday's I work by myself. Like most weeks it is slow for the first couple of hours, then a little busy in the afternoon, then slow again. Well I don't know what happened yesterday but from 12-1pm the phone was ringing off the hook. I even had three lines going at the same time. By the time I finished my day I had sold almost as many tickets as the day before and the most for a Sunday since I don't know when. Anyway back to my story.

Earlier in the day I received a call from a very nice woman who wanted to bring her ten year old daughter to New York to see Wicked. No shock there as Wicked is the most popular show on Broadway. We started looking at dates in November and while there were seats available they weren't quite what she was looking for. She really wanted to sit in the Front Mezzanine, which is actually my favorite place to sit in most theatres. I told her I could get her seats in that section but probably not as center as she was hoping. I asked her what weekends she was available and she was pretty flexible on her dates. I told her that if she wanted the best seats she was better off going into January or February when the better seats are available.

Well after doing a little research I called her back today with the the good news. I got her great seats in Row B of the Front Mezzanine. Dead center by the way. Well she couldn't have been more pleased. She bought the tickets and thanked me for going the extra mile to get the tickets that she wanted. Another satisfied customer at Applause. Will you be next?

What’s the difference between Broadway and Off-Broadway?

On the ‘final’ performance of Avenue Q this past September 13th, Kevin McCollum, the show’s producer, announced it would be re-opening Off-Broadway on October 9th. As promised, the show will present its first performance at the New World Stages this Friday. Playbill noted in a September article that this transition of a Broadway show to an Off-Broadway theater is unprecedented. But what’s the difference, anyway? Read on and we’ll go through the formal and informal factors that decide whether a show qualifies for Broadway or Off-Broadway.

Over time Broadway developed authorities which distinguished differences between theaters. The League of New York Theatres and Producers, now known as the Broadway League, was created in 1930. The league serves as the official trade association for the commercial theatre industry. In 1939, a group of women involved in theater created the American Theatre Wing, which later went on to give the first Tony Awards in 1947. The name ‘Tony’ actually comes from the name of one of the association’s co-founders, Antoinette Perry. The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing co-present the Tony Awards each year. The organizations deem certain theaters eligible, and therefore they appear on the Broadway box-office charts and are generally considered to be a part of Broadway.

Off-Broadway has its own League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers, founded in 1959 to establish an Off-Broadway theatre community. Its Board of Directors established the Lucille Lortel Awards in 1986, and eligible shows and theaters are considered Off-Broadway.

Other factors also decide the categorization of a show. The League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers require member theaters to seat between 99 and 499 people, and thus most theaters that seat 500 or more people qualify as Broadway. Exceptions include large theaters that often present music or dance shows in place of pure theatre, such as Carnegie Hall.

Don’t worry, though. Just because Avenue Q is moving Off-Broadway, and therefore to a smaller theater with fewer seats, does not mean that Applause can no longer get you tickets!

Avenue Q To Begin Performances This Friday

I know what you're thinking. Didn't Avenue Q close last month? Yes it did. However on the very day that it was to close the producers of the show announced they were moving to a new theatre on October 9. Now over the years several long running shows have moved to other theatres during their run. In fact Chicago has played at three different theatres since it opened in the fall of 1996. However a successful Broadway show as well as a Tony winner for Best Musical moving to an Off-Broadway theatre? According to a statement from the producers' press office,"Research indicates that this transfer is unprecedented, marking the first time that a Broadway musical has, indeed, moved to an Off-Broadway theatre."

I personally think this is a smart move. The show while still successful is moving to a theatre with 300 less seats than it's previous one. Hopefully this will ensure a longer life for the show. I hope so. Avenue Q is one of my favorite shows and I am happy that more people will have the chance to see one of the funniest and touching shows to hit New York in years. Go see it if you get the chance. You will love it. I sure did.
