Broadway Production Of Chicago Makes History Again

Has it really been fifteen years since Chicago opened on Broadway? Now technically it's been thirty-one years since it opened. I'm talking about the revival. This new production began it's life as part of the Encore! Series in the Spring of 1996. Following the success of that production it transferred to the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway where it remained until January 9 1997. Two days later the show opened at the much larger Shubert Theatre where it stayed for the next six years. Think they are done moving theatres? Think again. Shortly after the release of the hit Oscar winning movie the theatre settled in at the Ambassador Theatre where it is now in it's eighth year. Not bad for a show that during it's original run was overshadowed by A Chorus Line and ran for a little over two years. Incidentally when Chicago becomes the fourth longest running show in Broadway history on August 27 it will do so by surpassing it's main rival. How is that for irony? Not only that but on that same date it will also become the longest running American musical in Broadway history. Congrats! Get your tickets to see Chicago The Musical. It is Broadway at it's best.
