How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
The latest musical to make its triumphant return to New York City is the clever and funny How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying Broadway show. J. Pierrepont Finch is a young window washer with a mind devoted to moving up in the world. He finds a mysterious book whose voice tells him how to succeed in business without really trying. He follows the books’ advice and lands himself a job in the mailroom at the World Wide Wicket Company where he is forced to work with the CEO’s lazy nephew, Bud Frump. On the upside, he also meets the boss’ secretary Rosemary and promptly falls in love with her.
Following the advice of the book, Finch soon makes a meteoric rise from the mail room to become the Vice President of advertising for the entire company. Unfortunately, the morally questionable practices advocated by the book make him few friends and jeopardize his relationship with Rosemary.
The musical first opened on Broadway in October 1961, winning the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for drama, and has been revived several times over the years. The Harry Potter film star Daniel Radcliff is scheduled to star in the latest version set to hit the Al Hirschfeld Theatre stage on March 27 with previews beginning on February 26.
