Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards is Memphis. The show which began it's journey in 2003 at the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Massachusetts prior to it's critically acclaimed runs in San Diego and Seattle recently celebrated it's 500th performance on Broadway. That my friend's is what we call a milestone.
Now in it's second year on Broadway, "Memphis tells the story of Huey Calhoun a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break. Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves -- filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock 'n' roll." Sounds like a winner to me.
Featuring book and lyrics by Tony winner Joe DiPietro and a score by Bon Jovi keyboardist and fellow Tony winner David Bryan Memphis is one the most exciting not too mention energetic shows to hit Broadway in years. Catchy tunes? Check. Some of the best dancing on Broadway? It's got that and then some. It's rare when something new and original like Memphis comes to Broadway.
I highly suggest you check it out next time you're in town. You will love it. I know I did. By the way for those of you who still haven't seen this award winning musical I have got some incredible news. Good seats are available this Spring for prices that can't be beat.
