Chicago The Musical Makes History Again

It was just announced that on January 12, 2010 Chicago The Musical will surpass Beauty and the Beast to become the 6th longest running show in Broadway history. On that date it will have played it's 5,462 performance. Now while I liked the show when I first saw it back in 1997 never did I expect to still be talking about it twelve years later. You have to give credit to producers Barry and Fran Weissler. They know what sells. Here is a statement from Mr. Weissler.

"What a joy to mark another amazing milestone in the life of our show. Year after year, we see that audiences continue to have an incredible affinity for Chicago. In fact, our year-end data for 2009 shows a remarkable 11% increase over 2008 in both cumulative box office grosses and cumulative ticket sales — which, in a year of such economic uncertainty, is quite extraordinary."

At this rate Chicago may be around for another twelve years. Stranger things have happened.
