Exciting Broadway news to share with you from Applause Theatre Service. Following its acclaimed productions of Gypsy and Damn Yankees, City Center's Encores! Summer Stars series will continue in June with The Wiz.
The modern retelling of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," which features an African-American cast, will play the famed New York City venue June 12-July 3. Opening night is set for June 18.
The production will be directed by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler. Kail was Tony-nominated for his direction of In the Heights, and Blankenbuehler won the coveted award for his choreography of that Tony-winning musical, which continues to play the Richard Rodgers Theatre. A full scale production directed by Des McAnuff played La Jolla out in LA last year and was on target to come to Broadway starring Titus Burgess who's now starring in Des' "Guys and Dolls" which opens this Sunday. Unfortunately that obviously never happened. But maybe with so many Encore transfers these past few years, it still may happen. I can't wait to see who they cast in the principle roles. Tickets will go on sale with Applause Theatre Service on March 9th. Call an Applause Sales Expert to get these hot tickets as well as all Broadway show tickets at 800-451-9930
