The Lion King On Broadway

Can you believe that The Lion King has been on Broadway for over twelve years? Being not what you would call a "fan" of Disney I expected it to be a modest hit that if lucky would run a few years and that would be it. Once again I was wrong. There is no stopping the Mouse. Now no matter how I may feel about the show or it's producers there is no stopping them. I mean look at their track record.

Beauty and the Beast ran on Broadway for over twelve years and spawned successful productions all around the world. Aida enjoyed a four year run and won three Tony Awards including Best Score. Now while both Tarzan and The Little Mermaid were not as successful their production of Mary Poppins continues to do great business not only on Broadway but Nationwide as well.

Now I myself have never seen The Lion King. I take that back. I did see Act One and left after intermission. The show just wasn't for me. Regardless how I feel the show is going to be here for a very long time. I can't control that. All I can do is embrace the fact that without it and other shows I would be without a job. Now you don't want that do you? Where else would you be able to read such fascinating blogs each and every week? Don't worry. I'm not going any where. That is unless Disney takes over all of Broadway. Stranger things have happened. Until next time theatre fans.

Attending Your First Broadway Musical in New York City – Applause-Tickets.com

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know (but were too afraid to ask) about attending a Broadway Musical in New York.

Your How-To Guide for Attending a Broadway Musical

Mary Poppins on Broadway

What to wear, how to get there, what time to arrive, finding your theater, receiving your tickets, and everything else you’ve ever wanted to know about attending your first Broadway Musical.

New York City can be a pretty exciting place – fast paced and full of energy. But sometimes the lights, sounds, cars, buildings, and people can make everything a little overwhelming as well. Many people would like to attend a Broadway Musical in New York but the thought of going through all that hassle can be paralyzing. We would like to help make your New York City experience as stress free as possible. There are many things that you can’t plan or control in this great city but one thing you can prepare for is a night out at the theater. We believe that the more you know about buying tickets, finding the theater, what to wear, and how to act, the more you will enjoy this once in a lifetime Broadway musical experience.

  1. Buying and Receiving your Tickets: Applause-Tickets is one of the only ticket companies in New York City staffed with local experts to help you find the show that is exactly right for you. We are available via chat on our website and live on the phone to answer all of your questions. Once you pick a show or musical, we will gladly ship your tickets to your home via Fed-Ex so that you will have them ready for the big night.
  2. Attending Shows with Children: If you want to attend a Broadway musical with your young children, be sure to pick one that is age appropriate. Some shows can be racy with material not suitable for young kids. When you attend shows with children, consider picking seats at the end of an aisle in case you need to take them to the restroom during a show. By all means, consider Broadway a family friendly place. There are always plays and musicals showing that are fun and entertaining for the whole family. Think Mary Poppins and Lion King!
  3. What to Wear: Attending a Broadway musical in New York used to require formal wear but this is no longer the case. Nowadays they ask that you dress smart and presentable when attending a show. Some suggestions would be slacks and a polo shirt for the men and slacks or a skirt with a nice blouse or sweater for the women.
  4. Finding the Theater: If you are in town visiting New York City and staying at a hotel, simply ask your concierge where your theater is located. They are used to helping people find their ways to shows via taxi, subway, and walking. If you are local or not staying in a hotel, please call us at Applause-Tickets. We are always happy to give directions.
  5. How to Act: When you attend a Broadway musical, be prepared to be on time, use the restrooms ahead of time and turn off your cell phones (no talking or texting). You will most likely not be seated until intermission if you arrive after the show has started. Above all, do not talk during the show. Save any questions you have for intermission or until after the show is over.

New Play Red To Go On Sale Next Week

That's right theater fans. Tickets are set to go on sale this Monday for Red. The show which was written by John Logan and stars Tony nominee Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne is about 20th Century abstract-impressionist artist Mark Rothko.Prior to it's Broadway run it played at London's Donmar Warehouse where it received critical acclaim.

Handling the directing duties for Red is Michael Grandage who scored a hit earlier this season with Jude Law in Hamlet. Previews are set to begin on March 15 with opening night planned for April 1 for a limited run of only fifteen weeks. Mr. Molina was last seen on Broadway in the 2004 revival of Fiddler on the Roof where he received a Tony nomination for Best Actor. Here is a synopsis of the show from a production source.

"Red is set in 1958 as New York artist Mark Rothko (Alfred Molina) has received the art world's largest commission to create a series of murals for The Four Seasons restaurant in the new Seagram building on ParkAvenue. "Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, Ken (Eddie Redmayne) and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Rothko faces his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Red is a moving and compelling account of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, whose struggle to accept his growing riches and praise became his ultimate undoing."

Alfred Molina is one of our finest stage actors as well as being a favorite of mine from his work in films over the years. Now based on him and Donmar Warehouse's track record as of late we should be in for a great night in the theatre. Get your tickets to see Red on Broadway. If reviews are good it is sure to be a hot ticket.

Get Tickets To See Next To Normal On Broadway

Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards including Best Score and Best Actress is Next To Normal. The show which first opened Off-Broadway in 2008 is one of the most amazing and powerful musicals I have ever seen.

Following a few revisions and another production at the Arena Stage in Washington D.C. the show opened on Broadway on March 27, 2009 to rave reviews. Ben Brantley of the The New York Times wrote that the Broadway production is "A brave, breathtaking musical. It is something much more than a feel-good musical: it is a feel-everything musical."

Rolling Stone Magazine called it"The best new musical of the season – by a mile."In fact I have yet to hear from anybody who has seen it who did not absolutely love it. Now I know there are some people out there that are a little hesitant about seeing the show due to it's subject matter.

Truth is I was a little apprehensive myself until I finally went to see it. I mean come on. A show about a woman with a bipolar disorder does not really scream "Big Broadway Musical" if you know what I mean.

The thing is it is so much more than that. It is about a family dealing with a loss. Who hasn't experienced that at one time in their life? That's what in my opinion makes the show so successful. It's because it's real. That to me is what makes great theatre. That is why Next To Normal is a must see. Get your tickets today.

Jersey Boys On Broadway is Still A Must See

If you haven't seen Jersey Boys yet then you don't know what you're missing. In fact my boss just saw it again last week and enjoyed it just as much as he did when he first saw it over four years ago. Now when it first opened in December 2005 I'll admit it really wasn't at the top of my list. Yes I know it got rave reviews but to be honest I was afraid of seeing a show that had that much hype. Well cut to almost two years into it's run and I went to see it.

I can't believe I waited so long. What an amazing show. From the very beginning I was hooked. Although I knew a lot of the songs going in I never knew the real story of the Four Seasons and how they beat the odds to become a worldwide sensation. I highly recommend you check it out it if you get the chance. It is a must see. Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. You will have the time of your life.

Broadway Revival Of Lips Together,Teeth Apart Now On Sale

It's funny but out of all the shows that playwright Terrance McNally has written in the past few decades the only two shows if his that I have seen have been musicals. The Full Monty and Ragtime both of which he was nominated for a Tony for Best Book of A Musical. He won for the latter as well as one for Kiss of The Spider Woman. In fact during the 1990's he won two more Tony's back to back in 1995 and 1996 for Best Play.

Well now here we are in 2010 and the Roundabout Theatre Company is presenting one his most well known works. Lips Together,Teeth Apart. The show which first premiered Off-Broadway starred Tony winners Christine Baranski, Swoosie Kurtz, and future Tony winner Nathan Lane. Rounding out the foursome were Tony nominee Anthony Heald.

This new production which will mark it's first time on Broadway stars Emmy winner Megan Mullaly,Patton Oswalt,Lily Taylor, and David Wilson Barnes. The show which is being directed by Tony winner and frequent McNally collaborator Joe Mantello(Wicked) will begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on April 9, 2010 with opening night set for April 29.

Here is a brief synopsis about the show from it's official website."It's July 4th weekend and two couples have come together at a beautiful beach house for a few days of fun and sun. But once the barbecue's lit and the daiquiris are made, the disturbing reality hits them. The will have to spend their entire vacation together.

Sounds like it could be a lot of fun if you ask me. Be advised that like most Roundabout Theatre productions seating is limited early in the run due to it's large subscription base so don't delay.Get your tickets to see Lips Together,Teeth Apart on Broadway. It is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Despite The Snow The Show Will Go On

Well here we go again. Another snow storm in February. This marks our third one for the month. I guess I really shouldn't complain. We get less than most states on the East Coast after all. I can't tell you how many people have called today asking if the shows were going on. Yes I know it may be a little nasty outside but in all the years I've been in this business I have yet to see them cancel a show because of a little snow. So despite what you might have heard Broadway is open with no cancellations planned at this time. If for some reason things change be sure to check our website for further updates.

Get Your Tickets To See 101 Dalmations Musical In New York This Spring

Calling all dog fans. It's time to get your tickets to see 101 Dalmatians in New York City. This new musical based on the classic book by Dodie Smith. The show is scheduled to open at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden on April 7 thru April 18. Growing up as a child the movie was a favorite of mine. Now I know what you're thinking. Isn't this the guy who hates all things Disney? Those of you who read my blogs know what I am talking about.

See back then I loved those type of films. It was just when I got older I sort of out grew them. Of course Disney trying to take over Broadway might have had something to do with it too. Look it doesn't matter what I think. Disney is here to stay. Now for those of you who are dying to see 101 Dalmatians during it's engagement in New York then you came to the right place. Why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.

The Addams Family To Begin Previews On Broadway In Less Than Two Weeks

One of this season's most highly anticipated new shows is The Addams Family. This new musical which is based not on the popular television series but the comic strip by Charles Addams is set to begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on March 8.The show which first premiered in Chicago stars Tony winners Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth as the family patriarchs Gomez and Morticia Addams.

Now while the reviews in Chicago were mixed that hasn't effected ticket sales as a lot of dates in the first few weeks of the run are already sold out. I would imagine a lot of that has to so with it's two main stars. Following it's out of town tryout the producers have brought in four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks as "Creative Consultant" to oversee the production. Hopefully he can fix what ever problems the show may be happening prior to it's opening in April 8. We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.

See South Pacific On Broadway For Less

For those of you who have not seen South Pacific on Broadway do I have good news for you. Now is the best time to see the 2008 Tony Award winner for Best Musical Revival. The show which premiered on Broadway in 1949 is now in it's second year on Broadway. It was just announced that the show will play it's final performance on August 22. Not bad for a show that opened over fifty years ago.

Going into the show I admit I was a little hesitant. Quite frankly the musical revivals have been a little lackluster if you know what I mean. That was not the case with South Pacific. It felt just as fresh and as thrilling as if it were a brand new show. How many revivals can say that? Since the show began in February 2008 it has constantly been one of our top sellers.

In fact if you call now we can get you tickets to see this Tony winning classic at prices that are below face value.Hey a bargain is a bargain. Why not take advantage while you still can. Right now this deal is only going thru March 13 but I expect it to be extended shortly. Get your tickets to see South Pacific on Broadway. It is theater at it's finest.

The Miracle Worker on Broadway

We sent a few of our favorite theater experts, Rosie and Bill Mearns, to see a preview of The Miracle Worker, a revival of a play which plays at the Circle in the Square Theater in New York City last night. Rosie and Bill have a long and successful career in the theater business, acting, singing, dancing and writing their own musicals. They really enjoyed seeing The Miracle Worker and we are looking forward to their usual review for our Broadway Ticket News blog in the days ahead. Most of the staff at our theater ticket company Applause-Tickets.com have seen the show this past week and everyone seems to feel that it will become a big selling show after the newspaper critics have had a chance to submit their reviews.

I am going to attend tonight's performance of The Miracle Worker myself and will submit a review as well. Seeing as how The Miracle Worker hasn't officially opened yet, our company has access to amazing seats at below face value prices. Simply put, we can get you into this show at "below cost". Once the show opens to critics reviews, it is possible the discount ticket offering will become a thing of the past. With this in mind, you might want to consider calling Applause (License #71AP1001029) soon so we can try to get you The Miracle Worker play tickets while they are not so difficult to obtain. Our contact information is at the bottom of this blog.

Here's the note that Rosie and Bill Mearns sent us this morning after attending last nights performance of The Miracle Worker. I'm sure we'll hear from them again soon.

A Little Night Music Now On Sale Thru August 29

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's most successful shows is now on sale thru the end of the Summer. A Little Night Music which opened to rave reviews last December is selling tickets thru August 29. That's great news of you are a Sondheim fan. Now for those of you who want to see the show with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury you only have until June 20.

As of now replacements for the two leads have not been announced but I would imagine if they are going to sell tickets well after their departure they must have a few people in mind. Now while the show is a big seller I think we can all agree it is because if it's two leading ladies. If the show has any hope of lasting well into 2010 they better have something up their sleeve. Only time will tell.

The Miracle Worker On Broadway

Two nights ago I had the chance to see a preview performance of The Miracle Worker on Broadway. Prior to that I had never seen a live production or one of the many movie or television versions of the show. Now I knew going in that it would probably be a little heavy. It is about Helen Keller after all. Plus I was looking forward to finally seeing Alison Pill on stage as I have been a big fan of her film and television work and heard great things about her prior performances on the New York stage.

So there I sat in my third row seat at the Circle in the Square Theatre waiting for the show to begin. For those of you that are not familiar with the theatre it is in the round which usually means all the seats are good. Anyway the show began and to be honest I found it to be a little over the top at first. In fact I was sure I was going to be in for a disappointing night at the theatre. Well that all changed when Alison Pill walked on stage. That was the moment that I began to see the show for what it was and before you knew it I was totally enthralled with everything that was going on.

I guess my only complaint with the show is that because it was in the round there were many times when I could only see their backs. Because of that I feel like I missed a lot of key moments between the performers. Now don't get me wrong. There were many times where the staging worked. I just felt I would have enjoyed it more if it had been staged on a proscenium or thrust stage. Now despite my problems with the staging I thought the acting was quite good and thought the actor's were very committed to their roles.

Besides Alison Pill and Abigail Breslin who both at times broke my heart I was very impressed with Matthew Modine and Jennifer Morrrison who besides portraying Helen's parents were also making their Broadway debuts. Bravo to them for not only picking a show as dramatic as The Miracle Worker but doing so in a show where you are so close to the audience. To me that is what made the show so thrilling at times. You felt like you were right there with them the whole time.

Now while the show did have it's dramatic moments there was a lot of humor throughout the script. I was not expecting that. I mean when you think about the story of Helen Keller you don't think of it being funny. In fact at the beginning of the show I almost started to laugh but that was more because of what was going on during the actor's performance then anything else. Having said that I think the show is a must see and once they work out a few kinks and it's staging problems it should be in fine shape. In fact I expect many of it's cast members as well as the play to receive Tony nominations this May. We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from the great state of Indiana. As a travel agent she has used our service many times over the years when she needed theatre tickets for her clients who were coming into New York City to see a show. However this time when she called she was not looking for tickets for a client but for herself.

I told her that not only could I get her seats to whatever she wanted but because she was a travel agent she was automatically entitled to a 10% discount. Well that just made her day. I asked her what she wanted to see and she said that she was a big fan of Catherine Zeta-Jones and wanted to see if we could get her a seat to see A Little Night Music that was full view but that wouldn't be too expensive.

Now for those of you have never been to the Walter Kerr Theatre it is one of the smallest theatres on Broadway. In fact all the Broadway theatres are not very big which is a big misconception among people who have never been to Broadway. In fact when you compare our theatres to other theatres around the country we have some of the smallest. Anyway back to my story. I was able to get her a full view seat in the balcony for a great price.

After taking care of the ticket she asked me if I could suggest a few restaurants in the city that she might enjoy. Believe it or not besides selling tickets we are experts when it comes to great places to eat in the city. I gave her a list of about eight different restaurants to choose from while she was here and told her that if she needed help with anything else to give us a call. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

THE VALUE OF A HUMAN BEING

Applause was founded in September of 1987 with a staff of two people: Rich Gladstone and Bill Stolting. It started growing right from the very beginning and kept growing and growing. We all knew the secret of our growth: CUSTOMER SERVICE. We had difficulties through the years: September 11, 2001, recessions, unfair competition and the INTERNET. Are you shocked? We have been on the Internet for years so why would the Internet be a problem.

From the moment we started Applause we always had a staff person answer the phone, we never had music on hold or voice mail. How many of you remember the last time you made a telephone call and someone answered the phone. Is it possible every one in the world is either "on another line or away from his desk". Does this mean that I don't use the Internet? I use the Internet often but I never buy anything from any company on the Internet that doesn't have a telephone number or an address. I was burned a few times and learned my lesson.

Now the biggest problem we have at Applause is letting people know what kind of company we are and the kind of treatment they can expect from Applause. Our biggest competition actually buys many of their tickets from Applause because they have the
money to advertise. It really hurts because people are buying our tickets at much higher prices than they would pay us and without the personal treatment and expertise they would receive from us.

Broadway Grosses

Can you believe we are in the last week of February? Yet here we are with Spring around the corner and people are still coming to New York City to see a Broadway show. Now since the week before was a holiday week I expected that a lot of shows would see a drop in business. Well believe it or not it was the exact opposite. Wicked which has fallen to between 93%-94% the last few weeks went back up to 100% last week. To be honest they could fall to 90% and they would still do over a million dollars in sales. Of course having the biggest theatre on Broadway helps too.

Now besides Wicked four other shows hit the one million mark last week. They were Billy Elliot,Jersey Boys,The Lion King, and West Side Story. Not only that but there were five more shows that grossed $700,000 or more. Pretty impressive don't you think? By the way between now and the end of April fifteen more shows are set to open. Looks like Broadway is coming back. Not like it went away but you know what I mean. Don't forget to support the theatre next time you are in town. There is noting else like it in the world.

Tickets For First Broadway Revival Of Promises,Promises Now On Sale

Being a huge Burt Bacharach fan I for one cannot wait to see this show. Although having Tony and Emmy Award winner Kristin Chenoweth headlining the revival helps too. Starring along side Ms. Chenoweth is Emmy winner Sean Hayes. The show which first premiered on Broadway over forty-years ago is set to begin previews on March 28 with opening night set for April 25. Starring along side Ms. Chenoweth is Emmy winner Sean Hayes.

It's interesting to note that when this season began four revivals were set open.A Little Night Music,Bye Bye Birdie,Finian's Rainbow, and Ragtime. My how things change. Of the shows I mentioned only A Little Night Music is still running although that is mainly due in part to it's two stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury.Well you know what they say. "One man's misfortune is another man's gain." With three shows gone that leaves Promises, Promises with a better chance to succeed. We shall see. Until next time theatre fans.

Love Never Dies To Begin Previews In London Tonight

That's right theatre fans. The sequel that the whole world has been waiting for is now here. O.K. so it's probably not the whole world but you can't deny that The Phantom of the Opera has a very large fan base. It wouldn't still be running on Broadway after twenty-two years if it didn't. Love Never Dies begins previews tonight at the Adelphi Theater in the West End. Opening night is set for March 9.

Originally the show was supposed to have begun two days ago but was postponed for reasons that still have not been revealed. My guess it that it was due to technical difficulties but with a show that big anything is possible. The show is set to open on Broadway this fall at the Neil Simon Theatre.

Is Broadway big enough for two Phantom musicals? Well I don't have a crystal ball but if anyone can pull it off it's Andrew Lloyd Webber. Sure he may recycle the same music over and over again but the man is in his fifth decade in this business so he must be doing something right.

All About Me To Begin Performances This Week

All About Me ,the new musical featuring the talents of Dame Edna and Michael Fienstein is now in previews. To be honest out of all the new shows set to open this season this is the one that I am the least excited about. It's probably because I'm not all that familiar with the work of the two stars except what I've heard or read about. However I am willing to give it a shot. I love going to the theatre whether it's good or not.

This new production which is playing at the Henry Miller's Theatre begins previews tonight with opening night set for March 18. With a month of previews that should be plenty of time to get out whatever kinks or problems that may arise. Not that I expect their to be any it's just that when you are dealing with two egos like those two anything can happen. Get your tickets to see All About Me on Broadway. It is sure to be one of the most talked about shows of the season.

American Idiot Now On Sale

Now I don't know about the rest of you but I am really looking forward to this show. American Idiot, which is based on the Grammy Award winning album by Green Day is set to begin previews at Broadway's St. James Theatre on March 24 with opening night set for April 20. The show first premiered last fall at the Berkeley Repertory Theater where it received critical acclaim prompting the show to move to Broadway this season in time for Tony consideration.

Now while the show is sure to have a very large fan base due to the world wide popularity of Green Day I'm not sure how the rest of the theater going public will receive the show. Rent was and is my favorite show of all time. When it first opened I don't think anyone expected it to be as popular or as mainstream as it did. The last rock musical to open on Broadway was Spring Awaking which enjoyed a two year run on Broadway and went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Coincidentally that show was also directed by Michael Mayer who won a Tony for his work. Will lighting strike twice? I hope so. Personally I am rooting for the show and if successful I hope it will encourage more musicians like Greene Day to try their luck on the Great White Way. Until next time theatre fans.

Get Your Tickets To See Billy Elliot On Broadway

Winner of ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical is Billy Elliot. The show which first premiered in London in 2005, where it is still one of the West Ends hottest shows, is one of the most popular if not successful shows running on Broadway today. In fact since it opened on the Great White Way in November 2008 it has continued to gross over a million dollars at the box office week after week.

To be honest I wasn't sure how the show would do over here in the states. Just because it was a hit in London didn't guarantee it would be here. It was a little too British for my tastes. Well I am man enough to admit when I am wrong and boy was I wrong about this one.Expect Billy Elliot to be around for a long time to come.

By the way if you need tickets to see Billy Elliot on Broadway or London then you have come to the right place. Just give us a call and we will take care of the rest. Applause is open 7 days a week. 365 days a year. That means we are always here to help with all your ticket needs. That's what we do.

The Glass Menagerie Set To Return To New York Next Month

That's right theatre fans. One of the theatre's most well known plays of all time is returning to the New York stage this March. However unlike it's previous revivals this one will instead be presented Off-Broadway. The Glass Menagerie, written by Tennessee Williams comes to New York following it's critically acclaimed run at the Long Wharf Theatre, It stars two-time Tony Award winner Judith Ivey as Amanda Wingfield.

Rounding out the cast are Patch Darragh,Keira Keeley, and Michael Mosley all of whom appeared in the Long Wharf production. Gordon Edelstein directs. Previews are set to begin at the Laura Pels Theatre on March 5. As of now the show is scheduled to run thru May 30 but if reviews are good expect the show to be extended. Broadway Revival Of Fences Now On Sale

Those of you have read my previous blogs know how excited I am about seeing the new production of Fences. Now while I have always enjoyed the work of August Wilson the main reason I want to see the show is because my favorite actor is starring in the show. You may have heard of him. Two-time Academy Award winner Mr. Denzel Washington.

Now besides being a big fan of his screen work I had the pleasure of seeing him five years ago in Julius Caesar on Broadway. Now while I enjoyed his performance I think the lead role of Troy Maxson will be more well suited for him. The role of Troy Maxson was portrayed by James Earl Jones in the original 1987 production for which he won the Tony Award for Best Actor.

Looks like he has some big shoes to fill but if anyone can do it Denzel can. Sure I may be a little bias but there's no denying the man has the skills to get the job done. Be advised the show is only playing a limited run of thirteen weeks. Previews are set to begin on April 14 at the Cort Theatre with opening night scheduled for April 26.

By the way for those of you who have never been to the Cort Theatre it like most theatres on Broadway is very small. Although there are three levels(Orchestra,Mezzanine, and Balcony)it is less than 1100 seats. That means there is not a bad seat in the house. Get your tickets to see Fences on Broadway. Expect it to be a big contender at this year's Tony Awards.

The Perfect Show For The Whole Family Is In The Heights

Let me guess. You thought I was going to say Mary Poppins or The Lion King right? Don't get me wrong. Those are both great shows that the whole family can enjoy. I just happen to think that In The Heights is a better overall show. Look if you want a show that the little kiddies will enjoy than take them to see Disney. You will definitely get your money's worth. I just think that In The Heights has more to offer as far as overall entertainment.

It has a great story that everybody can relate to know matter how old they are. It has an amazing score that ranges everywhere from hip-hop to traditional musical theatre. What other show can say that? Best of all it doesn't insult your intelligence like other shows do. It is there to entertain and share it's message that anything is possible if you believe in yourself. Dreams are what makes this world great. Without them where would we be? I know I would be a little less interesting.

Now for those of you who think you might want to see In The Heights I have good news for you. Not only do we sell the show but we can get you tickets to see this Tony Award winning musical at prices that are below face value. Sounds good right? Right now this special offer is good thru March 21 so don't delay. Get your tickets to see In The Heights on Broadway. It is a winner.

Lincoln Center Announces Shows For The 2010-2011 Season

Following yesterday's news that South Pacific will close on August 22 Lincoln Center has announced shows for their 2010-2011 season. They are A Free Man of Color,War Horse, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Let's take a look.

A Free Man of Color(Vivian Beaumont Theatre)-This new play by Lincoln Center vet John Guare is set to begin previews at the Beaumont Theater on October 21,2010 with an official opening set for November 18, 2010. According to a production source the play is described as "a freewheeling epic set in 1802 New Orleans," where "Jacques Cornet, the title character, is a new world Don Juan and the wealthiest inhabitant of this sexually charged and racially progressive city. Jacques thinks all is well in his paradise until history intervenes, setting off a chain of events which no one, much less this free man of color, realizes is about to splinter the world." The show is being directed by Tony winner George C. Wolfe. One of my favorite plays is Guare's Six Degrees of Separation. This one looks like a winner. We shall see.

Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown(Belasco Theatre)This new musical based on the 1988 film by Pedro Almodovar features a book by Jeffrey Lane and music and lyrics by David Yazbek who scored a hit in 2005 with their musical adaptation of Dirt Rotten Scoundrels. The show which is being directed by Tony winner Bartlet Sher(South Pacific)is set to begin previews at the Belasco Theatre on October 2, 2010 with an opening set for November 4, 2010. The musical according to a production source "is set in late 20th-century Madrid and tells the story of the intertwining lives of a group of women whose relationships with men lead to a tumultuous 48 hours of love, confusion and passion."To be honest I've never seen the movie but loved Dirty Rotten Scoundrels as well as Mr. Yazbek's first Broadway show The Full Monty. Expect some high profile casting for this one.

War Horse(Beaumont Theatre)One of London's most acclaimed plays in over a decade is set to cross the pond next Spring. The show which is being produced in association with the National Theatre and American producer Bob Boyett will begin performances on March 17,2011 with opening night scheduled for April 14, 2011. Here is a brief description of the show provided by Lincoln Center."At the outbreak of World War I, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a mission to find him and bring him home."I have heard nothing but good things about this show since it opened over two years ago. Expect this show to be a major highlight of the 2010-2011 Broadway season.

What a season so far. Additional shows in their season including their Off-Broadway space the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater and their new 131 seat theatre are set to be announced at a later date. Until next time theatre fans.

Christopher Walken on Broadway in "A Behanding in Spokane"

I love going to see just about every Broadway Show that plays New York City. Yesterday I was invited to a preview performance of a new Martin McDonaugh play called A Behanding in Spokane. This new Broadway play is a "dark comedy" about a man named Carmichael who has been searching for his missing hand for 47 years. Carmichael is played by the very talented Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter, Saturday Night Live) in this very lively 90 minute hilarious show.

Along for the ride in A Behanding in Spokane are a young couple named Marilyn and Toby (played by Zoe Kazan and Anthony Mackie). Ms. Kazan has appeared in The Seagull and Come Back, Little Sheba on Broadway and in the films entitled Revolutionary Road, Me and Orson Welles and It's Complicated. Mr. Mackie has been seen in this years most talked about film, The Hurt Locker, made his Broadway debut in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, appeared in Shalespeare in the Park's production called The Bacchae and been seen in several films- 8 Mile, We Are Marshall, Million Dollar Baby and Notorious. The pair try to reap Carmichael's reward offer of $500.00 by trying to give him back his missing hand. Sam Rockwell (the star of many films including The Green Mile, Moon, Everybody's Fine, Frost/Nixon and many others) plays the role of Mervyn, the hotel clerk. Mervyn hears a gunshot in Carmichael's hotel room, knocks on the door and soon the fun begins. There are lots of laughs in this show despite the sometimes dark side to their situation.

A Behanding in Spokane is the latest play written by Mr. McDonaugh, whose plays include The Lonesome West, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, The Pillowman and The Lieutenant of Inishmore. Every one of the plays has received Tony Award nominations. Mr. McDonaugh has written for Off Broadway and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for In Bruges. Direction of A Behanding in Spokane is by Broadway veteran John Crowley, who received a Tony nomination for his efforts in The Pillowman a few years back.

A Behanding in Spokane may not be for those folks that want to see an old fashioned Broadway show. But for those of you that want to see an artistic Broadway play, one that asks its audience to go with the flow allot, this show may very well be one you need to attend.

Although the show is a limited engagement playing only through June 6, 2010, I am pleased to report a convenient and inexpensive way to obtain amazing seats for this show is available by calling a legit source for Broadway tickets- Applause Ticket Agency in New York. If you're interested in finding out more information about A Behanding in Spokane play tickets, you may call Applause seven days a week at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930.

Portraying it's disgraced President and CEO Jeffrey Skilling is Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz with Stephen Kunken as CFO Andy Fastow.

They will be joined by Noah Weisberg,Rightor Doyle,Ian Kahn,Mary Stewart Sullivan,Madisyn Shipman and January LaVoy.Additional casting will be announced at a later date. The show which first premiered in London in the summer of 2009 enjoyed a six week run at London's Royal Court Theatre before transferring to the Noel Coward Theatre.I for one am looking forward to seeing this show.
