Let me just start off by saying that Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies. Now while I may not have been alive when it first came out, I did get the chance to see it years later. It did not disappoint. After all it did have Academy Award winner Audrey Hepburn in the leading role of wannabe socialite Holly Golightly. This new adaptation of the Truman Capote novel is being written by Tony winner Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out).
Set in New York City in the 1940's, Breakfast at Tiffany's tells the story of nineteen year old Texas transplant Holly Golightly turned society girl. With no job or prospects, she survives by socializing with wealthy men who lavish her with expensive gifts and provide her with the dream life she always imagined. She soon meets a young writer who becomes fascinated by her lifestyle and her ability to charm everyone she meets, including himself.
Previews are set to begin at the Haymarket Theatre on June 29. It was also recently announced that actress and award winning singer/songwriter Pixie Lott would be starring in the leading role. Now believe it or not, but this is not the first time they have attempted to adapt this beloved novel to the stage.
In 1966 a musical version of the show starring Richard Chamberlin and Mary Tyler Moore opened on Broadway. It closed in previews prior to opening. Let's hope this new production fares better. Fingers crossed. By the way for those of you want tickets to see the show you are in luck. We sell them. In fact we sell tickets to every show in London. Get your tickets to see Breakfast at Tiffany's at the Haymarket Theatre in London. Until next time theatre fans.
