Marin Mazzie and Daniel Dae Kim Take Over The Leads in Broadway's The King and I

The King and I is one of the most gorgeous and beautiful musicals I've seen this past season.  It's playing at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre in Lincoln Center, a very small and intimate theatre by Broadway standards.

The King and I won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival of 2015.  It originally won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1952 as well.  The show has beautiful music written by Rodgers and Hammerstein and is based on a terrific novel called "Anna and the King of Siam" written by Margaret Landon.

The interesting story line takes place in 1862, where we see a widowed British schoolteacher by the name of Anna Leonowens who is brought to Siam so that she can tutor the many children of the King.  Although she gets along instantly with the kids, she has her hands full with trying to connect with the King.  Like many relationships, over time both Anna and the King begin to understand and respect each others cultural and social differences.

Although Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara and male lead Ken Watanabe have recently left The King and I, I'm happy to tell Applause Ticket News readers that 3 time Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie (Bullets Over Broadway, Passion, Kiss Me Kate and Ragtime) and Daniel Dae Kim, who has played in several Off Broadway shows as well as starred on television in Hawaii Five-O, will take over the leads in The King and I on Tuesday May 3, 2016.  I'm looking forward to seeing these two fine actors in the coming weeks as soon as I get a chance to.
