The current production of this terrific Off Broadway show called The Fantasticks is selling tickets through July 3, 2016 right now.
The original production began its journey in 1960 playing at Off Broadway's Sullivan Street Theatre in downtown New York City. That production lasted 42 years playing 17,162 performances which is unheard of in the history of musical theatre. The show had reopened several years ago and is now playing at the intimate venue called The Theater Center in midtown Manhattan.
With music and lyrics by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, The Fantasticks is a musical based on an original play called The Romancers. As the story goes we learn of two dads that are neighbors. The guys desperately try to get their children to fall in love with each other to resolve a silly feud from the past.
The Fantasticks has a small cast and no more than three instruments being played. Some old-timers may remember the famous hit song of the 1960's called "Try to Remember".
