Tonight marks the New York premier of the new play The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. The show which was a 2010 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize first premiered in Chicago in fall 2009 at the Goodman Theatre.Previews began at the Second Stage Theatre on April 27 and is scheduled to run thru June 20 however with most shows at Second Stage I expect the show to extend if sales are good.
Now for those of you who think I have lost mind perhaps I should explain the title of today's blog. Those of you who read my blogs now how much I love the theatre. I mean let's face it if I didn't I wouldn't be writing this blog now would I? Now what you don't know is that I am a huge professional wrestling fan. Or as I call it rasslin'. That's how people in the south say it by the way. Anyway why don't I just give you a description of the show from a production source. Enjoy.
"The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, tells the story of "Macedonio 'The Mace' Guerra who is a middle rank pro-wrestler who may have discovered his ticket to the big time: a charismatic, trash-talking Indian kid from Brooklyn whom he recruits as the perfect foil to the All-American champion, Chad Deity," according to show notes. "But when their rivalry is used to exploit racial stereotypes in the name of ratings, all three men find themselves fighting for much more than the championship title."
Now that's a show I want to see. Now surprise there right? Anyway for those of you who might want to see the show then you have come to the right place. Good seats are still available for all performances. Plus since it is in a Off-Broadway house it has fewer seats than most. That means there is not a bad seat in the house. Get your tickets to see The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. Just remember to leave the foreign objects at home.
