Bye Bye Birdie... Hello Discount Tickets

Newsflash Broadway Theater fans. Right now the producers of Bye Bye Birdie, the upbeat musical revival playing at New York's recently refurbished Henry Miller Theater in Manhattan have extended an invitation to purchase reduced price tickets for most performances through April 25, 2010. The only catch is tickets need to be purchased by December 20, 2009.

Bye Bye Birdie is a production of the Roundabout Theatre Company which also has a few other shows playing in New York right now including After Miss Julie and Wishful Drinking. This production is the first revival in 50 years for Bye Bye Birdie and stars some of my all-time favorite actors- John Stamos, Gina Gershon, Bill Irwin, Jayne Houdyshell, Dee Hoty and Nolan Gerard Funk (who plays the lead Conrad Bridie). Bye Bye Birdie is a cute story about an emerging rock star, his manager and what unfolds as the lead in the show-Conrad Birdie is about to join the military. The show has a book written by Michael Stewart with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams and direction and choreography by Robert Longbottom.

I've seen the show a few weeks ago and although I think they could have made some artistic changes in the show, for the most part it is an enjoyable little musical. Although many songs may seem memorable to those who choose to buy tickets for this version of Bye Bye Birdie, the best thing about the show seem to be its lead stars, Gina Gershon (gorgeous and talented) and John Stamos, an actor who has made quite a name for himself on stage, in film and in television as well.
