Ragtime The Musical

There used to be a time when you would have to wait twenty years or more before you would see a revival of a Broadway musical. Not anymore. Two productions of Gypsy have come and gone in the last five years and recently it was announced that a new revival of La Cage aux Folles will be returning to Broadway this Spring. The last production which won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Revival ran less then a year and lost it's entire investment.

Now here we are and a new production of Ragtime is set to open less then ten years after the original production closed. The show while very popular lost any chance it had of a long run when it lost the Tony Award for Best Musical to The Lion King. Now I personally did not care for the last production. While I enjoyed the music it was a tad long and a little over produced for my tastes.

This new production which comes fresh off a very well received and sold out run in Washington D.C. is on a smaller scale and from what I have been told by my coworkers just as powerful as the 1998 version. I think I'll give the show another chance. I mean it wasn't all that bad. Maybe I'll see you there. Until next time theatre fans.
