Now in it's celebrated second year on Broadway is Rodger and Hammerstein's South Pacific. The show which won seven 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, continues to delight audiences eight times a week at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. I had the pleasure of seeing the show during it's preview period and thought it was wonderful.
I had first discovered the show back in high school when I understudied the lead role of Emile de Becque and played Stewpot who was one of the sailors. Of course I never got to go on since there were only three performances. Regardless I fell in love with the show. So you can imagine my excitement when it was announced that South Pacific was returning to Broadway for the first time since the original 1949 production.
What an amazing night in the theatre. Classic songs, a stunning set, and a cast of Broadway veterans and newcomers who help to transform the audience to a small island in the South Pacific. Sounds like a winner to me. Get your tickets to see South Pacific on Broadway. They don't make shows like these nowadays so call now. You won't regret it.
