9 to 5 Set To Open On Broadway

Following an out of town tryout and three weeks of previews on Broadway 9 to 5 The Musical is set to open on Broadway tonight at the Marquis Theatre. The show which is based on the hit 1980 film features a score by Dolly Parton and a libretto by the film's screenwriter Patricia Resnik. Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty and Allison Janney take on the roles created by Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin in the film.

I saw the show a last week and thought it was a lot of fun with great performances and a catchy score. Will the critics like it? I'm not really sure. Earlier this week the show garnered fifteen Drama Desk nominations. Now we all know that doesn't mean anything. Last year A Catered Affair received just as many nominations and wasn't even nominated for a Tony for Best Musical so you never can tell what will happen. I guess we will find out on May 5th when the Tony nominations are announced. Until next time theatre fans.
