That's right theatre fans. This years Tony Awards is just around the corner. The question is what show will win the big prize? Right now there are twenty-two new plays and musicals currently running on Broadway that have opened during the 2008-2009 Broadway season. Now of those twenty-two shows ten are revivals.
Here are the current revivals. First up. The plays.
Accent On Youth
Haven't seen it yet but you know with David Hyde Pierce as the star there are sure to be plenty of laughs.
Blithe Spirit
Everyone in my office loved the show. Plus this could be the last time that we may see the great Angela Lansbury on the boards again.
Desire Under The Elms
Seeing it next week. Out of all the times that Brian Dennehey has appeared on Broadway in the last ten years this will be my first time seeing him. I can't wait.
Joe Turner's Come and Gone
Haven't seen it yet but I have been a fan of August Wilson's work for years.
The Norman
Conquests
I'll admit British comedy is not really my thing but I am willing to give it a try.
The Philanthropist
Matthew Broderick as a stuffy British professer. It's not Ferris Bueller.
Waiting for Godot
Has a great cast. I couldn't care less.
The Musicals
Guys and Dolls
I don't care what the reviews say. I had a great time.
Hair
Wasn't sure what to expect. I loved it. So did the critics.
West Side Story
Loved Karen Olivo.
The musical revival is a lot easy to figure out since there are four slots available with the recently closed Pal Joey taking the final slot. The plays are a different story. You can't count out Equus or All My Sons. Well that's where we stand with the revivals. Next week: The race for Best Play and Musical.
Until next time theatre lovers!
