David Mamet's Race Reaches Milestone

Well it looks like David Mamet has scored another hit. His newest work Race which premiered on Broadway at the Barrymore Theatre on December 6, 2000 will play it's 200th performance on May 29. The show which recouped it's entire investment last month is scheduled to play thru August 21. Currently starring in the production are James Spader,Richard Thomas,Kerry Washington, and David Alan Grier who was nominated for his wok in the play. It was also recently announced that on June 13 both Grier and Washington will exit the show with Spader following suit on June 20. Replacing them are Dennis Haysbert,Afton C. Williamson and Eddie Izzard. As of now Thomas is scheduled to remain with the show until the end of it's run. Now while I did not see the show most of the tickets that I sold were because people wanted to see James Spader live and in person. I say it will be lucky to make it until August but I've been wrong before. We will soon find out. Until next time theatre fans.

See The Phantom of the Opera On Broadway This Summer For Less

Still haven't seen The Phantom of the Opera yet? I mean come on it's not like it hasn't been playing at theatres around the world for over twenty-three years now.My first exposure to the show was in high school when I heard the cast recording for the first time. Growing up in the Midwest the only theatre I was exposed to were either the shows that I was in or from seeing shows at the local community theatre. From the opening number I was hooked. I had never heard anything like that in my life.

I swear I must have listened to that recording every day during my junior year. Looking back on it now I would have to say that while it does have some beautiful songs it is not quite the masterpiece I made it out to be when I was younger. Having seen over a hundred different musicals over the years I would probably not rank Phantom as high as what it once was. Now that doesn't mean I didn't like it when I saw it all those years ago. It's just that my tastes have changed over the years.

Now enough about me and my thoughts on the show. You came here to find out how to get inexpensive tickets for the show. So let's get right to it. From now thru July 3 you can get tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway for......wait for it......below face value. Sounds good doesn't it?Please note that this offer is not good for Saturday matinee or evening performances and is subject to availability. Get your tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera. It is Broadway's longest running show after all.

Revivals Are The Thing On Broadway

Believe it or not but some of Broadway's most popular shows right now are plays and musicals from the past. One of those is the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific which received rave reviews and won seven Tony Awards in 2008. Now while the show will play it's final performance on August 22,2010 it will not soon be forgotten. If you haven't seen it I highly suggest you do before it is too late.

One of this season's biggest hits is Fences starring my favorite actor Mr. Denzel Washington. The show which received ten Tony nominations this year will conclude it's run at the Cort Theatre on July 11. As of now the show is completely sold out except for Premium seats. Sure they may be a little more expensive than other seats but if you want to see Denzel then you have no other choice. That is unless you want to wait in a cancellation line for two or three hours.

One of my favorite shows of the past few years in the new revival of Hair. Going into the show I knew a few of the songs but that was pretty much it. That nightI walked out of that theatre knowing that I had witnessed one of the most moving and energetic shows that I had ever seen or will ever see. Unfortunately the show is not doing that well at the box office and my guess it it will probably close by Labor Day or even sooner. I'm just glad I got the chance to see this amazing show before it departs for good.

Nominated for ten 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival is La Cage Aux Folles. This new version first opened in London at the Menier Chocolate Factory where it won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival as well as Best Actor in a Musical for Douglas Hodge who is also starring in the Broadway production along with Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Kelsey Grammer. When they first announced plans for the show to transfer to Broadway I thought it was a bad idea.

After all the last revival closed less than five years ago and while it won the Tony Award it closed after seven months and lost it's entire investment. This revival appears to not only be a big seller but is poised to win the Tony Award for Best Revival. We will soon find out. Other revivals you might want to check out are West Side Story,Promises,Promises, and A Little Night Music which will conclude it's run on June 20. Broadway. There's nothing like it. Until next time theatre fans.

Four Years And Counting Jersey Boys Is Still A Must See

Let me start off by saying that I never expected to love Jersey Boys as much as I did. In fact I waited until almost two years into it's run before I finally broke down and went to see it. Now don't get me wrong. I love the music. It's just that the show had so much hype I was convinced that it would never be able to live up to my expectations. Well I am man enough to admit when I am wrong and boy was I wrong this time. I loved the show. Going into the show all I knew were some of the songs and that was about it. While the musical numbers were fantastic it was their story that really moved me.

Being a composer myself I really identified with this four guys from New Jersey struggling to achieve their dreams although thankfully my road has not been as tragic as it was for those guys. Now for those of you who think you need to be a fan of their music to appreciate the show I just have one thing to say to you. You don't. Oh sure it might help to know a few of the songs like I did but when it all comes down to it Jersey Boys is a great show. If you haven't seen it I highly suggest you do. I hope you will love it as much as I did.

Tony Award Winner Alice Ripley To Exit Next To Normal This Summer

That's right theatre fans. It was announced today that Alice Ripley will exit the Tony Award winning production of Next To Normal on July 18. Also leaving that day will be her co-star and Tony nominee Brian Darcy James who joined the show last week following his year long run as the title role in Shrek. Ripley who has been part of the cast since it's Off-Broadway run in 2008 will headline the National tour which launches in Los Angeles on November 23, 2010. At this time no replacements have been announced. Additional cities on the tour include San Diego, Seattle, Des Moines, Providence, Hartford, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, St. Paul, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Charlotte and Washington, DC.

Now while I loved the show I'm not sure how it will play in the road. For those of you who have seen Next To Normal it is a very intimate show. I hope that they select small venues for the tour. Regardless it is still one of the most powerful and emotional shows that I have ever seen. See it if it comes to a theatre near you. It is amazing. Now for those of you who who want to see Alice Ripley in her Tony Award winning performance before she leaves you still have plenty of time. In fact if you call now you can get tickets to see Next To Normal at some incredible rates. Good seats are still available so call now. See Next To Normal on Broadway or when it comes to a city near you.

All You Need To Know About Zone Seating

Now let me start out by saying that the main reason for today's blog is mostly due to the influx of calls that we have received over the past few weeks about a new concept in selling tickets to events in New York City as well as all events around the country. Maybe you've heard of it. It's called Zone Seating. First of all there is no such thing. Can you recall any theatre you've ever been in where your seats were located in Zone A or B? I didn't think so. For example when you go to see a show on Broadway there are usually two sections. An Orchestra and a Mezzanine. Now while there are some theatres that have a Balcony as well that is very rare. That is also the same with most venues around the country.

When you call a broker that shows Zone seating that usually means that nine times out of ten they actually don't have exact seats which basically means that while they will probably get you the tickets they could be anywhere in the theatre. That translates to you spending your hard earned money to sit in a seat that you have no idea where it is at. Now if that's fine with you then be my guest. Buy the ticket. However don't you think you would be better off purchasing your tickets from a company where you know what you are getting? I know I would. Look this is just one man's opinion so take it for what you will. My advice is to take your time before you part with your hard earned cash. It is a buyer's market after all.

Lend Me A Tenor To Close

It was just announced today that the Tony nominated new revival of Lend Me A Tenor will play it's final performance at the Music Box Theatre on August 15, 2010. The show which began previews on March 12 officially opened on April 4. The reason for the closing is due to the actor's contracts ending on that date. It's a shame they couldn't find away to keep the actor's around or find suitable replacements as the show was one of the funniest ones that I have seen in years. Scheduled to follow the show at the Music Box Theatre is the new revival of the 1991 flop Le Bete starring Tony Award winners David Hyde Pierce and Mark Rylance. Previews are set to begin on September 23 with opening night scheduled for October 14. Prior to it's Broadway opening it will play a limited engagement at the Comedy Theatre is London from June 26-September 4.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from England. Last Friday I got a call from a very nice girl who was coming to New York on holiday and wanted to get tickets to see South Pacific while she was here. She told me that she had the New York Pass and wondered what kind of discount she could get with it. For those of you who are not familiar with the New York Pass it gives you discounts for hundreds of different things in New York City. From restaurants, to walking tours, to stores, and of course theatre tickets. Trust me. It is a great deal. So anyway after telling me the date she wanted to go I was able to find here very nice seats well within her price range. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Broadway Grosses

Yes I know. I know. I'm a day late with last weeks grosses. That is because by the time they came out yesterday I was already out the door and halfway home to my apartment. Anyway no big surprises once again. The same six shows hit the one million mark last week.

Billy Elliot
Jersey Boys
Promises,Promises
Wicked
The Lion King
The Addams Family

Now besides the six shows that I mentioned there were ten shows that hit the $600,000mark as well. Now of those ten shows three were such long running hits like Mamma Mia,The Phantom of the Opera, and Mary Poppins. My guess is most shows will stay steady at least thru next months Tony Awards and longer. Now as much as I loved Hair it seems to be struggling at the box office. It will be lucky to survive the summer. Let's hope it lasts. Until next time theater fans.

That's right theatre fans. This years Tony Awards have found their host and it's none other than Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Sean Hayes. The actor who made his Broadway debut with the new revival of Promises, Promises should be a popular choice with theater insiders and his fans. Here is a statement from Sean regarding his new gig. See Tony Nominee Fela For Less This Summer

That's right theatre fans. This season's most nominated show is now available at prices that can't beat. Fela! which received eleven 2010 Tony nominations including Best Musical opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 23, 2009 to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The show is based on the life of musician and political activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti and features his music. Now depite all the nominations I'm not sure how well it will do at next month's Tony Awards. My pick for Best Musical was American Idiot but it seems to be losing steam as of late.

My guess it will come down to Fela and Memphis. Now as much as I enjoyed Million Dollar Quartet it will just have to settle for a Tony nomination and hopefully a great performance on the Tony Awards. Anyway back to the reason for my blog. For those of you who are looking to get tickets to see Fela then you have come to the right place my friends. From now thru July 11 you can see this multiple Tony nominee for prices that are below face value. Be advised that this offer is subject to availability and can be pulled at anytime. Off Broadway Meets Rasslin'

Tonight marks the New York premier of the new play The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. The show which was a 2010 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize first premiered in Chicago in fall 2009 at the Goodman Theatre.Previews began at the Second Stage Theatre on April 27 and is scheduled to run thru June 20 however with most shows at Second Stage I expect the show to extend if sales are good.

Now for those of you who think I have lost mind perhaps I should explain the title of today's blog. Those of you who read my blogs now how much I love the theatre. I mean let's face it if I didn't I wouldn't be writing this blog now would I? Now what you don't know is that I am a huge professional wrestling fan. Or as I call it rasslin'. That's how people in the south say it by the way. Anyway why don't I just give you a description of the show from a production source. Enjoy.

"The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, tells the story of "Macedonio 'The Mace' Guerra who is a middle rank pro-wrestler who may have discovered his ticket to the big time: a charismatic, trash-talking Indian kid from Brooklyn whom he recruits as the perfect foil to the All-American champion, Chad Deity," according to show notes. "But when their rivalry is used to exploit racial stereotypes in the name of ratings, all three men find themselves fighting for much more than the championship title."

Now that's a show I want to see. Now surprise there right? Anyway for those of you who might want to see the show then you have come to the right place. Good seats are still available for all performances. Plus since it is in a Off-Broadway house it has fewer seats than most. That means there is not a bad seat in the house. Get your tickets to see The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. Just remember to leave the foreign objects at home.

A Little Night Music To Close On June 20

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Tony Award winner God of Carnage will close on June 6 comes the news that multiple Tony nominee A Little Night Music will play it's final performance at the Walter Kerr Theatre on June 20, 2010. The show which was recently extended thru the end of August will now close following the exits of it's two stars Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones. When it closes it will have played a total of 20 previews and 217 performances. The rumor is that the show is closing due to the producers of the show not being able to secure suitable replacements for it's two leading ladies. Either way the show was a big seller during it's run and while it is not likely to win the Tony Award for Best Musical next month it was a top notch production of a show that we are not likely to see again on Broadway for a very long time. Until next time theatre fans.

Spider-Man Musical Back On Track

It's official. After months and months of delays comes the news that the rumor plagued Spider-Man:Turn Off The Dark is finally set to open on Broadway this fall. The show which is scheduled to begin previews on Broadway at the Hilton Theatre this October was originally scheduled to begin performances on February 25 but was postponed due to financial problems with the show. Since that time the show has lost both it's leading lady (Rachel Evan Wood) and it's villain (Tony Award winner Alan Cumming).

As of press time no replacements have been announced although according to published reports Patrick Page who scored a hit a few seasons back as the title role in Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas has been offered the role of the Green Goblin. Right now the only actor confirmed is actor Reeve Carney who will be making his Broadway debut as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man.

Now according to most insiders the show is doomed to fail and it even if it sells well there is no way it will ever make any of it's money back. According to most publications the budget for the show is already over $50 million dollars and counting. The shows director Tony winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King) who was recently given a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Dramatists had this to say about the show.

"What I’ve learned is that the Internet has its pluses and minuses. But keep three things in mind: No. 1, all of the money that goes into this show will employ a lot of artists, actors, technician, designers, make-up people, dancers; No. 2, the audience won’t get rooked, so they shouldn't’t be complaining, because they’ll be paying about the same as they would for a two-character, one-set production; and No. 3, it’s Spider-Man! Would you want to create a show with modest expectations? If we’re the behemoth that some people think we are, well, let’s ignore it, go on, and create something special.”

Looks like she's got all the bases covered doesn't she? Now it doesn't take a crystal ball to figure out that the show is going to be scrutinized by the press no matter how good or bad the show does. That's just the way the business goes. Now while I have yet to hear any of the music I have no doubt it will at least be interesting. I mean it is Bono and The Edge after all. Who knows? They could surprise us all and it ends of becoming the biggest hit in Broadway history. We will see. Until next time theatre fans.

See Jersey Boys Up Close And Center For Less

Now I don't know about you but when I go see a Broadway show I don't care if I'm right up front or in the back of the Mezzanine. The truth is that most people that go to a Broadway nowadays are not from the New York area. I mean if it wasn't for tourist's most shows would not be as successful as they are. It's just a fact. Another fact that most people don't know is that when it comes to the theatres on Broadway most most of them are smaller than other theatres in the country. Bet you didn't know that did you? The Gershwin which is the current home to Wicked has a little over 1800 seats while Next Fall at the Helen Hayes seats 589. See I told you they weren't very big.

Anyway I guess I should get back to the reason for today's blog. Now while I personally don't care where I sit there are those people who do. For those of you who want there I say need to be close then I have two words for you. Premium Seating. Never heard of it? Well that's why I'm here. Believe it or not but Premium seats have only been around since 2001 right after The Producers opened on Broadway. The actual producers of the show decided to raise their prices in order to prevent scalpers from getting all the choice seats. Makes sense right? Since then every show now offers Premium seats. That way if you have the money and you want better seats then you have the option.

When Jersey Boys first opened over four years ago now one could have expected that it was going to be a huge hit. After all except for Mamma Mia most jukebox musicals opened and closed in quick fashion. Who's to say Jersey Boys would be any different? Well as we all know the show opened to rave reviews and to this day is still one of Broadways biggest hits. By the way for those of you who are looking to see Jersey Boys and sit up close and center then now is the best time.

From now thru June 27 Premium seats are starting at $250. Be advised that this is good for Tuesday thru Thursday only and subject to availability. Now for those of you who don't want to spend those prices then there are other seats. Remember how I said that the theatres on Broadway weren't very big? Well the August Wilson Theatre which is home to the Jersey Boys has only 1200 seats. Not only that but because it has two levels there really is not a bad seat in the house. So whether you want to be up close or in the last row you can't lose. Get your tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway.Oh what a night.

My Thoughts On The Ticket Industry

Having worked in the ticket industry for over a decade now I can honestly say that I have done and seen it all. From selling tickets over the phone at Applause to working in the box office I have had the chance to help thousands of people with all their ticket needs. Now while the job may have changed one thing has not. It's all about customer service. I can't tell you how important that is when it comes to not only our industry but any industry that you are in.

Whether you are ordering tickets to a Broadway show or ordering a meal at a nice restaurant it is all the same. I mean would you buy something from someone who doesn't give you the respect that you deserve? I know I wouldn't. Look we all know that the cost of going to a Broadway show has gotten expensive over the years. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that we are the only game in town. We're not.In fact in New York City alone there are at least twenty to twenty-five with hundreds more around the country.

Now of those ticket agents I would say more than half of those are licenced by their respective states. The truth is you can spend all day researching different sites trying to find the best deal. In fact I recommend that you do. We all know that nobody buys on their first call. I know I like to do a little investigating when I am looking to purchase something. In this economy it just makes sense right? I suggest you shop around and by all means take your time. Then do what is best for you for you. It's your money.

Save On Mary Poppins This Summer

Now those of you who read my blogs know that I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world. Although I do have to admit they do have their place on Broadway. Let's face facts. If not for Disney most kids would never get the chance to experience a Broadway show. For that they should be commended. Anyway as I was saying that while Disney may not be at the top of my list as far as what Broadway shows to see Mary Poppins was a favorite of mine growing up as a child. In fact I would dare say I probably saw the movie a hundred times when I was a kid.

Now while I was excited when I heard they were going to make a Broadway musical out of it I was a little hesitant about seeing it. Now we all know that when Disney puts on a show they give it their all. They aren't successful for nothing. I guess I was just a little worried that it wouldn't have as much heart as the movie. Well I am happy to say that I was wrong. Seeing the show made me feel like a kid again. How many shows can do that?

For those of you who think that you have to be a kid to appreciate the show I am proof positive that is not true. We're all young at heart after all. Now for those of you who have yet to experience the magic that is Mary Poppins then you have come to the right place. From now thru July 4 you can tickets to see this beloved musical for prices that are....wait for it...below face value. Be advised that while this offer is good for all performances blackout dates and restrictions may apply. Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. It will make you feel like a kid again.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes from our neighbor's across the river. For those of you that don't know I am talking about New Jersey also known as the Garden State. Last week I received a call from a gentleman who wanted to get tickets to see the new play A Behanding In Spokane because Christopher Walken is one of his favorite actor's of all time. I asked him when he would like to see it as the show is closing next month. He said the because his anniversary was coming up he wanted to try and get tickets for him and his wife for that weekend. Now while the show does have a major movie star good seats were still available for the date that he requested.

Not only that but I was able to get him seats in the center Front Mezzanine right on the aisle. Not too bad huh? Now besides getting him amazing tickets I was able to get them for a price lower then he would get at the box office. Since Applause is based in New York City we have access to special "Insider Deals" for over fifteen shows on Broadway. Who says you have to pay full price? I know I wouldn't if I didn't have too. Why should you? Anyway after I finished the sale I was able to recommend a nice restaurant for him and his wife for their special weekend. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

This Season's Biggest Hit Is The Addams Family

Lat week I wrote a blog about how despite some tepid reviews Promises, Promises has become one of Broadway's most popular shows. In fact since it began previews at the end of March it has continually been in the top ten of all shows with figures hitting the one million mark for the past few weeks.Back in early March I had the chance to see The Addams Family and loved it. I was not the only one. In fact I have yet to speak one person who has seen the show that didn't. That is except for the critics. They didn't like it. Not only did they not care for it but neither did this years Tony committee as it was shut out in all the major categories.

I guess the jokes on them because since the show began it has continued to gross over a million dollars a week. Take that critics. In fact except for The Lion King and Wicked it is Broadway's third highest grossing show. Now while a few Tony nods might have helped a little down the road I expect The Addams Family to continue selling very well for a long time to come. My only concern is how the show will do once Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth leave the show. That my friends is a mystery. My guess is that the show will be fine. After all it's the show that is the real star. Isn't that the way it is supposed to be? We shall see. Until then I suggest you see the show if you get the chance. You will have the time of your life. I know I did.

Save On Tony Nominee Lend Me A Tenor This Spring

Let me just start off by saying that despite never seeing a production of Lend Me A Tenor it is one of my favorite plays of all time. That being said walking into the theatre that night I was a little worried that the show would not be as funny as I imagined it to be. Well as it turns out I worried for nothing. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much in the theatre. Wait a minute. Yes I can. That would be when I saw The Addams Family in it's first week in previews.

Two funny shows in the same week? What is a theatregoer to do? See them all of course. That is what is so great about live theatre. So many choices. Anyway let me get back to the real reason for this blog which is to tell you about an incredible offer. From now thru June 27 you can tickets to see this award winning comedy at prices that can't be beat. Be advised that this offer is for select Orchestra and Front Mezzanine seats and are subject to availability. Get your tickets to see Lend Me A Tenor on Broadway. It will have you laughing in the aisles.

Despite What The Critics Say Promises,Promises Is A Hit

Who says you have to have good reviews to be a hit on Broadway? Now years ago The New York Times had the power to make a break a show depending what the reviews were like. Well not anymore. The new revival of Promises,Promises headlined by Tony nominee Sean Hayes and Tony and Emmy Award winner Kristen Chenoweth received mixed reviews from the critics when it opened last month. Yet when you look at it's grosses since it opened it has constantly been in the top ten with figures hitting well over a million dollars every week. Take that critics.

Now don't forget another little show that got mixed reviews when it opened a few years ago that has managed to hang on quite well despite what the critics had to say. Maybe you've heard of it? Wicked. Not only has it been the top selling show on Broadway for the past six years but it still continues to sell out week in and week out. I guess the critics don't know everything. Look the truth is it is the theatre going public are the ones who make a show a success or failure. Not the critics. Sure that may of been true a decade or so ago but not anymore. That my friend's is a good thing. Not a bad thing. Until next time theatre fans.

Broadway Grosses

Well it's been six days since the Tony nomination's and now it's time to see if that had any effect on last weeks figures. Let's take a look. Once again it was the same six shows leading the pack. However last week a new show joined the million dollar club. The show? Fences starring two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington. Now we all know that the show would be a big seller. After all his last time on Broadway was a smash it as well.

Now another reason for it's bump in sales was probably due to it's ten Tony nominations last week. Besides the top seven shows six other shows grossed over $700,000 including Come Fly Away which continues to be a big seller despite being shut out in all the major categories for this year's Tony Awards. Expect more shows to see a boost in sales as we get closer to Tony night and beyond. Don't forget to check out the Tony Awards on June 13 on CBS. I know I'll be watching. Until next time theatre fans.

Customer Story

This week's customer story comes all the way from Westlake,Ohio. It was one of my last calls of the day on Saturday. So anyway a very nice gentleman called saying he had come upon our website earlier that day and after checking out several others he decided to give us call because we were the only one's with a telephone number. By the way for those of you who are shopping on the Internet I always tell people whether they use us or anybody else to always try and order from a company that has a phone number.

Makes sense right? That way if there are any problems or if you just want to ask a question you can. I asked him what he wanted to see and he said he wanted to know what the most popular show on Broadway was. I told him that Wicked and Jersey Boys were the top two followed by Billy Elliot and this season's newsiest smash hit The Addams Family. He told me that both he and his wife had already seen Wicked and Jersey Boys and asked me about Billy Elliot. I gave him a synopsis and told him it had music by Elton John and he was sold.

I also told him that the best viewing for that show was in the Front Mezzanine as it is a very large show and that the seats we had in the Orchestra were not as good as the Front Mezzanine as they were in the back off to the side. Now don't get me wrong. Those are still full view seats. I just figured since it was his first time seeing it and since it was the same price as the Mezzanine he might as well get the best view possible. He agreed and I got him fifth row center and at a price that was lower then he was expecting. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Tony Nominee Million Dollar Quartet Now On Sale Thru November

That's right theatre fans. The new Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet has just announced that tickets are now on sale thru November 21,201. The show which received 3 Tony nominations including Best Musical opened at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre on April 11 following an acclaimed run at Chicago's Apollo Theatre. For those of you not familiar with the show here is a synopsis of the show provided by the shows press agent.

"On Dec. 4, 1956 an auspicious twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley together. The place was Sun Records' storefront studio in Memphis. The man who made it happen was Sam Phillips, the 'Father of Rock 'n' Roll,' who discovered them all. The four legends-to-be united for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has come to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time."

The show also received nominations for Best Orchestrations and for Levi Kreis(Jerry Lee Lewis)for Best Featured Actor in A Musical. Now while I don't expect the show to win any awards a good performance at the Tony's should raise it's profile and hopefully give it a bump at the box office. We shall see.

By the way for those of you who are looking for tickets to see the show then you have come to the right place. From now thru July 11,2010 good seats are available for below face value.Sounds like a great deal don't you think? Call now to get your tickets to see Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway. It is fantastic.

That's right theatre fans. One of this season's hottest shows is set to tour the United States next year. I am of course talking about La Cage Aux Folles. The show which received eleven 2010 Tony nominations including Best Musical opened to rave reviews at the Longacre Theatre on April 18. Headlining this new revival is Tony nominees Douglas Hodge as Albin and Kelsey Grammer as his lover George.

According to most industry insiders La Cage Aux Folles is expected to take home the prize for Best Musical Revival at this years Tony Awards. Now despite all it's accolades good seats are still available for every performance. Not only that but if you call now we can get you tickets to see this award winning musical at prices that are lower than anywhere else. Get your tickets to see La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway. Customer Story

This weeks customer story comes's all the way from Brookline, Massachusetts. Earlier this week I received a call from one of my regular customers who was planning her yearly trip to New York and wanted to see two shows while she was here. Now while she had seen Wicked when she was here four years ago she wanted to see it again since she was bringing her daughter who had never seen it. Last time she had seats in Row J which she loved but thought this time she would like to be a little further back in the middle. I was able to get her great seats in Row Q of the Orchestra right in the center.

Now for those of you who think that row Q sounds far back it is not. Yes the Front Mezzanine is above you but it does not block your view.Plus not only are you elevated slightly but there are still ten more rows behind you. See I told you it wasn't that far back. Anyway now that Wicked was all taken care of it was time to pick her second show. She asked for my opinion and I suggested Billy Elliot. She said that she had loved the movie and had heard good things about the show from a friend of hers who had seen it last year. Once again I was able to get her great seats and at a price that was much lower then she had expected. Another satisfied customer. Will you be next?

Wicked Is Still Broadway's Most Popular Show

Now let me start off by saying that while I enjoyed Wicked when I first saw it over six years ago I never expected it to become the worldwide phenomenon that is has become since it first premiered on Broadway in October 2003. Most people forget that the show did not get very good reviews when it opened or that it lost the Tony Award for Best Musical to Avenue Q. Being a huge Avenue Q fan I was quite happy when it won. Now before you think that I am here to bash Wicked I am not. As I said before I enjoyed the show. I just never thought I would still be blogging about it all these years later.

Yet here we are in 2010 and the show is still going strong with no end in sight. Not only is Wicked still the most popular show on Wicked but it is our most requested show here at Applause. Now unless something else with the appeal of Wicked comes in I don't see that changing.By the way for those of you who haven't seen Wicked yet and trust me there are very few who haven't then do I have some great news for you. Now is the best time to see Broadway's most popular show. Not only that but at prices lower then you will find anywhere else. Sounds good doesn't it? Get your tickets to see Wicked on Broadway. You will love it.

My 2010 Tony Award Predictions

Two days ago I posted the nominations for the 2010 Tony Awards. Today I am going to give you my picks on both who I think should win and also who will win. Take my picks for what they will. They are after all just one man's opinion. Enjoy!

Best Play
In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play
Next Fall
Red
Time Stands Still

Will Win:Red
Should Win:Next Fall. Now while Red received great reviews it is set to close at the end of next month leaving Next Fall as the only play currently running. However it was just announced that Time Stands Still is set to return to Broadway this fall with it's original cast minus Alicia Silverstone.

Best Musical
American Idiot
Fela!
Memphis
Million Dollar Quartet

Will Win:Memphis. If you had asked me this question a month ago it would have been between The Addams Family and American Idiot. My how times have changed. Therefore I am going with Memphis even though I really didn't like it. However it will sell really well around the country which we all know is what counts these days.
Should Win:American Idiot

Best Play Revival
Fences
Lend Me A Tenor
The Royal Family
A View From The Bridge

Will Win:Fences. It is the only one still running besides Lend Me A Tenor.
Should Win:A View From The Bridge. It was one of the best received shows of this season.

Best Musical Revival
Finian's Rainbow
La Cage Aux Folles
A Little Night Music
Ragtime

Will Win:La Cage Aux Folles. Critics and audiences loved the show.If it wins it will make history as the only show to take the top prize for each of it's Broadway productions.
Should Win:Ragtime If both Ragtime and Finian's Rainbow were still running it would be a much tighter race my friends.

Best Performance By A Leading Actor In A Play
Jude Law, Hamlet
Alfred Molina, Red
Liev Schreiber, A View from the Bridge
Christopher Walken, A Behanding in Spokane
Denzel Washington, Fences

Will Win:Denzel Washington. Those of you who read my blogs now that he is one of my favorite actor's of all time so I am of course hoping he wins plus I think the Tony voters will want to encourage more actor's of his caliber to come to Broadway.
Should Win:Liev Schreiber. Besides getting rave reviews he is one of the finest stage actor's of his generation.

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play
Viola Davis, Fences
Valerie Harper, Looped
Linda Lavin, Collected Stories
Laura Linney, Time Stands Still
Jan Maxwell, The Royal Family

Will Win:Viola Davis. While I think she might have had a better chance at winning if she was in the Best Featured Actress category I still think she will take home the trophy although don't count out Linda Lavin.
Should Win:Jan Maxwell. No need to feel sad for Ms. Maxwell as she is expected to take home the Tony for her hilarious performance in Lend Me A Tenor.

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical
Kelsey Grammer, La Cage aux Folles
Sean Hayes, Promises, Promises
Douglas Hodge, La Cage aux Folles
Chad Kimball, Memphis
Sahr Ngaujah, Fela!

Will Win:Douglas Hodge. Best reviews of the season and he has been the odds on favorite since the show was announced.
Should Win:Douglas Hodge. See above.

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical
Kate Baldwin, Finian's Rainbow
Montego Glover, Memphis
Christiane Noll, Ragtime
Sherie Rene Scott, Everyday Rapture
Catherine Zeta-Jones, A Little Night Music

Will Win:Catherine Zeta-Jones:Once again if you had asked me a month ago I would have picked Catherine-Zeta Jones but then Megan Mullally quit Lips Together,Teeth Apart and Everyday Rapture snuck in at the last minute. Now according to an article in yesterday's Daily News they speculate that Zeta-Jones and Scott will cancel each other out and Montego Glover will sweep in and take the big prize. We shall see.
Should Win:Kate Baldwin. Last fall a new Broadway star was born. As I said before things would be a lot different if both Ragtime and Finian's Rainbow were still playing.

Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play
David Alan Grier, Race
Stephen McKinley Henderson, Fences
Jon Michael Hill, Superior Donuts
Stephen Kunken, Enron
Eddie Redmayne, Red

Will Win:Eddie Redmayne. To be honest I didn't see any of the shows but my guess is the Tony Voters will go with this Broadway newcomer who more than holds his own with heavyweight Alfred Molina.
Should Win:Jon Michael Hill. Once again another Broadway newcomer who stole the show from his more experienced castmates.

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play
Maria Dizzia, In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play
Rosemary Harris, The Royal Family
Jessica Hecht, A View from the Bridge
Scarlett Johansson, A View from the Bridge
Jan Maxwell, Lend Me a Tenor

Will Win:Besides giving on of the best performances of the season she is long overdue.
Should Win.Jan Maxwell. See above.

Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical
Kevin Chamberlin, The Addams Family
Robin De Jesús, La Cage aux Folles
Christopher Fitzgerald, Finian's Rainbow
Levi Kreis, Million Dollar Quartet
Bobby Steggert, Ragtime

Will Win:Kevin Chamberlin. This beloved Broadway veteran steals the show and your heart. How many performers can do that nowadays?
Should Win:Kevin Chamberlin. Look we all know that The Addams Family deserved more than two nominations. They will have to settle for this win.

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical
Barbara Cook, Sondheim on Sondheim
Katie Finneran, Promises, Promises
Angela Lansbury, A Little Night Music
Karine Plantadit, Come Fly Away
Lillias White, Fela!

Will Win:Katie Finneran. She steals the show from her more high profile costar Kristen Chenoweth.
Should Win:Katie Finneran. Unless the Tony voters decide to honor Barbara Cook for returning to Broadway for the first time in many years.

Best Original Score
The Addams Family
Enron
Fences
Memphis

Will Win:Memphis. If The Addams Family doesn't win then Memphis is the likely winner.
Should Win: The Addams Family. Now I know I maybe in the minority here but I loved the score.

Best Book of a Musical:
Everyday Rapture
Fela!
Memphis
Million Dollar Quartet

Should Win:Quite frankly since The Addams Family isn't nominated I don't think any are worthy but I guess by default it should go to Everyday Rapture.

Best Direction of A Musical
Christoper Ashley,Memphis
Marcia Milgrom Dodge,Ragtome
Terry Johnson,La Cage Aux Folles
Bill T. Jones,Fela!

Will Win:Terry Johnson. If La Cage takes the Tony for Best Revival then Mr. Johnson will win here.
Should Win:Michael Mayer should have been all over this category but he's not.

Best Direction of a Play
Michael Grandage,Red
Sheryl Kaller,Next Fall
Kenny Leon,Fences
Gregory Mosher,A View From The Bridge

Will Win:If it's a Fences sweep then Kenny Leon will take it.
Should Win:Gergory Mosher. People bought tickets to see Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johannson but without it's director the show would have not been as well received.

Well there are my picks for the 2010 Tony Awards. Who will win the big prize? At this point all bets are off. We will fine out on June 13. Until next time theatre fans.
