I always say it is interesting to see a show a second time. Most shows have so many layers that often the first time you only see whats on the surface as you are trying to understand the story. When you see a show a second or third time you find so much more. I just saw Next To Normal for the second time, and have to say as much as I loved it the first time I found so much more to love in the 2nd viewing.
"Next to Normal is a new musical about a family trying to take care of themselves and each other."
What an emotional show!!! This show has so many levels of love, greif, and pain circulating through that you cannot help but feel and respond whether it's sympathetic or empathic. Just like people who choose a movie for a good cry, theatre can do the same. Next to Normal runs the gamut...I laughed, I cried and I cheered. But most importantly it made me FEEL.
I have never heard so many sniffles in the audience and folks blowing there noses from being overcome by emotions.
After the show, a friend said I usually have tissues and I was digging in my bag to find some but all I could find was a sock so I had to blow my nose in my sock. I am still laughing over that one.
So, many of you may think...well I don't want to go to the theatre and cry, I go to laugh and enjoy myself. But believe me, this is one of those experiences that is so special it is worth every laugh, or tear you may shed. Trust me if you want a unique theatrical experience go see this show.
I wouldn't be surprised if you also want to see it more than once.
