Could anyone ever have predicted that a cute little musical named Mamma Mia!, a fun Broadway show about a young woman planning her wedding, and trying to invite three men who potentially could be her father-would turn out to be one of the "long-time" running shows in New York City? Well friends, it's true. Mamma Mia! has been playing to mostly sold-out Broadway audiences since October of 2001.
One of the many things I personally love about Mamma Mia! is that the show features the wonderful music of ABBA, the 1960's rock and roll group that was really popular in Europe. The action takes place on a Greek Island where we see the beautiful young "bride-to-be named" Sophie nervously looking forward to the arrival of the 3 men who could be her dad. All three men had a relationship with Sophie's mom one summer about 20 years ago. So you can imagine how interesting this musical could be.
Mamma Mia! has an abundance of talented Broadway actors that all do their part to help the audience feel like you are very much a part of the wedding to be. Carolee Carmello plays Sophie's mom Donna Sheridan in the show. Brandi Burkhardt plays Sophie. She was recently seen on Broadway in another one of my favorites last season, A Tale of Two Cities. Judy McLane plays Tanya, one of Sophie's moms friends.
Mamma Mia's music and lyrics were written by ABBA's founders Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus with a book by Catherine Johnson. Although I don't personally recall growing up and thinking ABBA's music was that popular when I was a teenager, let me tell you friends, their music is lots of fun to listen, sing and dance to. And that's a pretty good testimonial coming from a "closet" Beach Boy fan of the 1960's.
My colleagues and I are always writing blog entries about Broadway Shows. We work for a company called Applause Theater Service, a locally licensed ticket agency for nearly 22 years operating in New York City. The bosses are always talking about making sure that Applause Theater Service stays in the top of mind to theater-goers all over the world so we write about shows we like allot or maybe even sometimes write about shows we are not to keen on. Either way we get to let theater-goers know all about Broadway.
The bosses always stress two things since we've been in business. And that is to always give "excellent service" and "the best seats at the best prices". With so many companies selling tickets today its really hard to tell the difference with regard to seating in the theater. At Applause, we ask our customers to take a minute or two and give us a call in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. We feel if theater-goers can get to know us, they will easily learn to "trust" the Applause difference in service.
To show you exactly what I mean, you might want to check out Applause's BFV (BELOW FACE VALUE) ticket deals for Mamma Mia! as well as about 20 other top shows in town. BFV is our way of bringing about giving our customers "the best seats at the best prices". And I do mean "best prices". If you can get a better price from any other ticket agency licensed by New York State (license #71AP1001029), we'll give you $20.00 back on your total ticket purchase. It's up to you friends. You can shop around and then call us and save yourself lots of time and money.
Applause is waiting for your call. Just tell them the Ticket Man sent you. That's me, Rich Gladstone.
Take care now.
Regards,
