When they first announced two years ago that South Pacific was coming back to Broadway I was so excited. It is one of my favorite Rodger and Hammerstein shows and I will always have fond memories of doing the show in high school and Community Theatre(I played Stewpot and understudied Emile De Becque in case you care.)Anyway back to the Broadway production of South Pacific. The new revival marks the first time it is back on Broadway since the original 1949 production. Wow! Has it really been 50 years? This version produced by Lincoln Center won 7 2008 Tony Awards including Best Revival. Now in it's 2nd sold out year it continues to delight audiences of all ages eight times a week at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre and should continue to do so for many years to come. That don't make shows like this anymore so I highly recommend you see South Pacific if you get the chance. As my coworker Erik likes to say, "It will give you goosebumps!"JWB
